Head’s Message . . .
Welcome to the last Phoenix Flier for this half term! It seems not very long ago that we were celebrating the start of the year and discussing the expectations of each year group, whilst eagerly looking ahead to a delectable feast of educational experiences. One could say that no sooner have we begun and it seems like we are embarking on another break. However, when you consider what has gone on between the start of term until now, I am sure you’ll agree we could all do with a well earned rest! Trips, fixtures, festivals, author visits, guest speakers, chess events, activity sessions, music ensembles, celebration assemblies, after school clubs and an abundance of engaging lessons have certainly entertained and inspired our pupils. Their willingness to engage in these wonderful opportunities is impressive and certainly ensures their development and progress - long may this continue! It is also crystal clear that the next half of term brings a host of further excitement, with this in mind I wish everyone a restful and safe holiday. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Harvest celebrations this week. It was wonderful to welcome the Reverend Yvonne Callaghan to school to share with us the work of the Food Store and that of Work Aid. We learnt how the donations will be used and what a wonderful impact they will have on the recipients. Credit must also be paid to the Year 6 Community Action Group who took a lead role in raising awareness of this special event in our calendar. Head’s Challenge: When the son of the water returns to the parent, it dies. What is it?

Children with Cancer Charity Thank you for helping us raise £8,131.70 for the charity Children With Cancer! I am delighted to inform you that due to the astonishing support we have received we have managed to raise a total five times greater than our original target of £1,500. I was so pleased that Children With Cancer accepted my request to allow three 16 year olds to raise funds for them and to run in the Great North Run, not only because they knew we would be some of the youngest runners as the minimum age to run is 17 but also because they took the risk to support our application despite our age. We were determined to raise as much money as possible and to not let them down. In addition, the charity is dear to me due experiences with my friend plus I am certain cancer has been prevalent in all families. Running the Great North Run was a great challenge; however, it was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done and the thought of all the money we have raised kept me going. The Silly Sock Run we organised at the Prep School was marvellous, and the support received was amazing! It was wonderful to see the delight on the children's faces not only to have fun, but in joining our aim to challenge themselves in order to raise money for such a worthwhile charity. I thoroughly enjoyed delivering a concert in January where we raised £800. On behalf of James, Michael and I, I would like to say that It has been a privilege to raise money for such a worthwhile cause and we are extremely grateful for everyone's support in helping us achieve such an astonishing amount. I am planning to hold another concert for Children With Cancer on 15th January 2018 - please make a note of it in your diary!!

Prep School Hockey
On Thursday some of the U9 girls were taken to play hockey at Bow School. The girls were split into teams of 4 which allowed us to have more touches and experience with the ball. It was clear to see that we had improved our stick skills and we are beginning to be much more assertive in competitive play. There were lots of goals and red faces by the end and we enjoyed the wonderful afternoon of hockey in the sunshine. Well done to all of the girls who took part.
Miss L Routledge
The HMC was a really good warm up for IAPS. Hannah Omran was our player of the tournament as she was amazing in goal and made lots of saves. Thank you to all of the girls for taking part and trying their best. We came 3rd. Miss Routledge and Mr Trubshaw helped us every second through it and we wouldn't of been able to be here if they hadn't helped.

Prep School Rugby
On Friday 6th Our U8 & U9 boys went on an away fixture to Cundall Manor. In an
extremely pleasant setting the boys played some excellent rugby against tough
opposition. The U8s passed the ball well keeping themselves away from the
tackle. This movement enabled the boys to score a
number of tries resulting in two wins for the boys.
The U9s faced a much sterner test and faced a
well drilled side that had plenty of pace. I was extremely pleased how Yarm
stayed positive throughout the game, always trying their best. A captains
performance by Oliver Blake, amongst others, kept the dream alive but sadly
both teams were overpowered by excellent play. Well done to everyone
Year 4 visit to Yorkshire Sculpture Park Year 4 would like to thank Mrs Mc Cormack for organising a fantas-
tic day at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. We spent the morning ex-
ploring and sketching sculptures and making clay models. During
the afternoon, everyone worked in groups to create a Yarm Sculp-
ture Park.
The best part of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park was when we made our sculptures out of
recycled objects. My group made a boy painting at his house. I was surprised when I
saw a gigantic hare made out of bronze. We had a great day!
Oliver Mowbray 4P
Every second of the trip was amazing especially when we were making our sculptures
of the Chinese calendar animals. During the afternoon workshop we made an amazing
sculpture that was a battlefield.
Alisha Thakkar 4P
Amazingly, the sculptures were a big as a tree. During the afternoon, we sculpted
some people from the ‘Family of Man’. We went in the sculpture called the Sky Scrape.
I could see the clouds.
Aryan Nalawade 4P
The best part of my visit to the Sculpture Park was making the recycled sculptures. I
loved sketching the sculptures and using the plants to make colours. I loved making a
smooth ball shape sculpture out of clay. I had a brilliant day out!
Gracie Rhodes-Hildreth 4P
My favourite part was the Chinese animal heads. We got to make them out of clay. I
was surprised that there was a lot of sculptures at the park.
Boaz Verrips 4P
I enjoyed sketching the different sculptures. I especially like ultimate form. In the afternoon, I made my own sculpture with a
group. It was a God. I used wooden blocks, little stones and other recycled materials.
Keziah Sidibe-Louis 4A
In the morning, my groups went to look at a sculpture called the ‘Lady Hare’ and some zodiac animals. Drawing the Lady Hare
was fun because we couldn’t take our pencil off the page. When we were at the zodiac animals, we had a five minute challenge
to make a Plasticine animal. I love the Sculpture Park!
Lydia Waddington 4A
At the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, we had a challenge to make a zodiac animal out of Plasticine. It was very tricky. Our last activity
was in groups. My group made a Goddess to add to the family of Man.
Eva Leadbitter 4A
I would recommend the Yorkshire Sculpture Park because it inspires you.
Ameera Rasul 4M
I would recommend the Sculpture Park because the Ai
Weiwei Zodiac model shows you what year you were
born in.
Deacon Hughes 4M
I would recommend the Yorkshire Sculpture Park because
the big underground sculpture that you can go into.
Max Studholme 4M
Dr Matt—Science Show It was awesome when he threw a few of the beads out and the rest fol-lowed.
Ava Holmes 3P
My favourite part of the science show was the dog trick, because the match boxes wouldn’t stand up with the dog watching.
Sophie Pritchard 3P
I enjoyed the submarine part because it looked so real but it was just a trick by pressing hard.
Jose Baeza Suarez 3P
It was interesting how he related magic to science. Science is often the understanding behind magic!
Laura Burns 6M
I had never seen anything like it!
Natasha Cunningham 6M
Year 4 visit to Yorkshire Sculpture Park On the trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park we saw some massive sculptures. I liked sketch-
ing the ‘Lady Hare’ but it was harder than it looked. My favourite part was the Zodiac ani-
mals because we had to sculpt animal heads.
Lily Cox 4A
My favourite part of the visit was in the afternoon because we built somebody for the
‘Family of Man’ sculptures. We made a Goddess. It was really fun. We created it out of
stones, wood, buckets, hoses and wheels. In the morning, we sketched some sculptures of
people. I drew ‘Ultimate Form’. It was the size of a wardrobe. I loved the trip!
Seth Holland 4A
I recommend a visit to the Sculpture Park to see the zodiac sculptures. You can find out
what animal represents you. I am the rat. Myles Worrall Johnson 4M
I would recommend the Sculpture Park because the elliptical column that was designed by
Tony Craggs was a bit like looking in a mirror at the fair, however all in one.
Nailia Krishnamoorthy 4M
Year 6 Visit France
My favourite part of the France trip was going
to the Sea Aquarium. I liked it because I really
like animals especially sea creatures. The best
part inside the Aquarium was the seal pool. I
liked this because I thought that they were
very cute, especially the two that were playing
together. My favourite activity was archery
even if I didn't do very well. I will really miss
France.
Eleanor M, 6G
The French trip was the best. My favourite part was
when we went to the goat farm and saw how goats
cheese was made.
Ben D, 6G
On the second day of the France trip, we went to Vimy
Ridge and explored the trenches. We discussed how the
allies and the German trenches differed. The German
trenches were very twisty and the British ones were very
straight. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Oscar T & Jack VN, 6P
On a night in France we ate tea then we did some
activities such as fencing and archery. My favourite was
the archery because we had lots of fun. We also played
games.
Eve H, 6H
My favourite part of the French trip was when
Mr Griffiths did a back flip at the disco!
Henry P, 6M
