he Stanger Siva Temple Women's Day, the first of its kind hosted by the organisation; Twhich proved to be highly entertaining,

educating and empowering; took place at the Hall on Friday evening, 22 August 2014.

The event organised by Stanger Siva Temple executive committee saw women from various organisations in attendance including the Glenhills Women's Circle, KwaDukuza Women's Circle, Divine Life Society Glenhills, Mdoniville Temple Society, Gledhow Temple Society and the Siva Temple itself. A total of 125 women were in attendance and were treated to a delicious dinner and divine dessert.

Mothers and Grandmothers were recipients of generous hampers with a ticket that saw them win in two lucky draws that took place that evening.

Entertainment in the form of musical items and dance items brightened the atmosphere with traditional dance and song taking place.

The education and empowerment came from the guest speakers that included, in order of appearance, Manjula Garach on the mind-body connection; veteran ex-politician and stalwart Mr SV Naicker; the highly entertaining and charismatic manager Erick Mthembu from Old Mutual (Stanger / Tongaat) and the impassioned Deputy Mayor of the

Garach spoke about the adverse effect stress had on both the mind and body and encouraged the audience to “be yourself and listen to your heart.”

She spoke about how traditional physical yoga was helping her ward off the rigours of stress while simultaneously keeping women healthy. Garach also delved into basic social psychology and how women “should” incorporate the above in their daily lives.

Mr SV Naicker, with his 40 years of political and activist experience, spoke of the triumph of women through the ages going back more than 170 years citing the resilience of women from both India and South Africa.

“Women are now equals and are awakening to your rightful position in bringing important women unity to a new world,” he said.

Erick Mthembu's charisma and

edutainment got the ladies laughing and rewarded them for answering his questions about the big five and saving discipline.

Mthembu's comment: “I like Indian women because they make great curry,” was the ice breaker that captured the audience who heard of 'Group Save' and other investment avenues.

Councillor Dolly Govender addressed the audience on multiple levels including that of parent, mother, as a woman and the KDM Deputy Mayor.

“In 1912 there were ten Indian ladies that joined our black brothers and sisters that fought for Women's rights by walking across Dundee, Newcastle losing two children on the way when they finally reached Pietermaritzburg,” she said.

“If those women that fought in 1956 had to see what is happening today, it's a laughing shame on us if you look at the rape cases, the drugs because we women should form social groups and fight these ills,” said the Deputy Mayor.

The KDM Deputy Mayor even blasted the state of society saying “where did you see your own children raping their grandparents and we are sitting in our little cocoons and saying nothing is happening.”

On the issue of drugs Councillor Govender said that the threat was so d i re tha t i t threa tened the sovereignty of Government itself meaning the forces of evil could eventually supersede those of law abiding citizens and the integrity of all that is good.

She told the women: “You've got to try and fail instead of failing to try and if you fail to try then you don't know which direction you are taking.”

Sabian Singh is a young second generation drummer who started playing at just five-years-old. He

has been stoking his passion for this instrument over five years now and has already played with local and international stars.

His dad Neil Singh, a drummer and mentor to KwaDukuza international guitar sensation Dane Francis, admits that Sabian wanted to play the drums due to his (Sabian's) individual desire.

According to his mother Jayshree, Sabian's discipline to his craft is admirable as he diligently practices three times a week.

“I support him a hundred percent and I am amazed every time I watch him play and make sure that he practises and exercises so he can play to the best of his ability,” she said.

She added that his second favourite drummer, aside from his dad Neil who is his favourite, is American drummer Vincent “Vinnie” Colaiuta who himself started at an early age (Sabian

started earlier).His reputation as a serious

drummer is already building momentum as he has performed with famous musicians the likes of Ryan Joshua, Dane Francis and Kerry Cherry.

If that's not enough Sabian performs year in and year out at KwaDukuza's marquee annual event - the Child Welfare Winter Fair in the midst of extremely chilly weather, raising his excellence and skill by the applause he gets from the thousands in attendance on the fair's busiest night being Saturday. Sabian is expanding his repertoire by learning vocals now.

His most recent gig was at a massive fundraiser playing in front of an appreciative Tongaat audience.

Besides his parents support he has his biggest fan in his 17-year-old sister, Jezliah Singh who

attends all Sabian's shows and screams for him from the front row.

The drumming sensation also loves fishing, playing PlayStation Vita video games and watching tennis besides being an Arsenal Football Club supporter.

Sabian's message to children his age is to “follow your dreams and don't be afraid.”

“After I finish high school I plan to run my dad's business,” he said.

The tranquil seaside village of Tinley Manor grieves the loss of one of its long standing r e s i d e n t s a n d f a m o u s restaurateur Neville Reddi (51) of Impulse by the Sea, famous for its mouth watering Prawn curry.

According to his wife Shamen, Neville was admitted to Alberlito Hospital on Tuesday for a “sudden lung infection.”

“Neville succumbed to the lung infection and passed away on Thursday morning in Alberlito Hospital at 2am,” she said. Neville was living with cancer for 22 years.

She spoke about his passion for music in referring to him being the house deejay at Impulse for years and the acoustic guitar that now stands in his home as an ode to what locals remember him by in his early days when the former Reservoir Hills resident also had a ponytail.

The show, which c o m m e m o r a t e d Women's Month, saw Mello deliver a sterling performance which was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance.

Logan Redh i o f ABSA, Centurion said that whilst the delivery channel was humorous, t h e m e s s a g e w a s serious. “It provided all in attendance with a different point of view on relationships in general, especially woman. Open-minded men got a taste of how to be different or better,” he said.

“Mello is a really amazing home-grown talent. The jokes were original and not crude - as with other stand-up comediennes. Besides, her jokes made one th ink about one ' s r e l a t i o n s h i p s a n d values. She also has a superb singing voice,” added Nalini Pillay.

T h e I l e m b e D i s t r i c t Municipality (IDM) has acquired 67 new vehicles which are expected to speed up their response to the community and improve on current service delivery standards.

S p e a k i n g a t t h e P r e s s Conference of the F lee t Handover on Monday, 25 August 2014; IDM Mayor, Councillor

SW Mdabe said that they have received nine water tankers to date, and are expecting six more; which will improve the response to water issues.

According to IDM Deputy Mayor , Counci l lor Dol ly Shandu, Ilembe now has 67 vehicles in their possession, with more to come. Shandu explained that with the acquisition of these vehicles, residents will no longer have to wait a long time for a

response to their complaints.Acting Municipal Manager,

Mr G Khumalo highlighted the importance of ensuring service delivery as well as taking care of the new vehicles, mentioning that every vehicle has a tracker to monitor speed.

“If the vehicle exceeds the speed limit, we will immediately receive an SMS,” he said.

For too long , Raman Govender of Indian Village has terrorized his family. The final straw came last week when he returned home under the influence of alcohol. He assaulted his children and flung the lounge suite, television and laptop down the stairs before hurling food about. The estimated value of the damage to the property is R16 500. Tired of his abuse, his wife laid a charge against him and he was remanded in custody at her insistence. Govender (44) will seek bail this week.

Fixing things upAn Asherville youth who

repairs televisions appears to be solving his problems through violence. Nqobile Mwandla (29) died in the early hours of 16 August after being stabbed in the chest with a screw driver. It has been established that the deceased was involved in an altercation with Ian Khoza (21) who stabbed him whilst, he claims,

defending himself. Khoza was arrested after a tip-off and will seek bail in court later this week.

A cool head Police responding to a

complaint at Superb Cash and Carry were surprised at the cool, calm and collected manner of a man suspected of theft. They allege that they approached the vehic le together with Alpha Security and found the driver alone. On searching the vehicle they found 20 boxes of Med-Lemon and 18 boxes of Eno's. The items valued at R6847 had no receipts and he alleges that they were given to him by four females. Sphamandla Biyela (19) of Groutville was charged for being in possession of suspected stolen property. He is due to apply for bail when he appears in court this week.

Last week, two youths aged 16 and 17 appeared in court on a charge of theft and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. They allegedly took a cellphone from a learner during the break and stabbed him repeatedly in the face when he wanted his phone back. The youths were arrested last week and releases into their parents' custody. Both delinquents are due back at court on 6 October 2014.

Stanger Primary School were elated about the opening of the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre at the school on Thursday, 21 August 2014.

The refurbished classroom was previously unoccupied.

Principal, Ms M Williamson said that there is much sentiment attached to this classroom, as it has seen thousands of learners, including herself.

She thanked the Departments of Public Works and Education respectively, as well as the school's governing body. “We are really grateful to God for our wishes being granted,” she said.

Already i t has achieved a milestone by producing two South African Junior Champions in AArti Ditharam (U8) and Sachin Reddy (U12) in the SA Schools individual chess tournament held in July 2014. Isithebe Paints trounced Darnall Action Sporting 10-3 to claim the Distel-Richelieu darts league hosted by KwaDukuza Darts Association at the Taste of India Restaurant last Wednesday.

Isithebe Paints went into this final match full of confidence after beating reigning champions Neville's Auto recently. They did not waste any time getting of the after winning their first seven points and game after the team events. They won the team event (101), trebles (801) and doubles (701), making it a clean sweep.

In the singles, both Isithebe and Darnall shared the spoils winning three each. Rookie, Ravolin Kaniappa stunned the more experienced Vinesh Geanballey in the opening singles (501) to give Darnall their first points of the evening. Jerry Govender and Vishalin Parmasivan rubbed further salt in Darnall's wounds when they defeated Cyril Pillay and Jean Marc Devasagaam respectively. Knowledge Mthembu and Preollen Moothusamy saved the blushes of Darnall with wins over Nine Pillay and Jerry Arunachellam before Asogan Latshoomanan rounded up the perfect night for Isithebe when he beat Sashen Naidoo for an

emphatic 10-3 victory.Neville's Auto's woes

continued when they fielded a player short for three games in a row and were made to pay for it going down 9-4 to R&B Gledhow sending them to the bottom of the table whilst R&B Gledhow claimed the runner up spot.

Two players scored the maximum of 180 (three triple 20), namely Darren Shanmagum and Neeran S o m n a t h o f R & B Gledhow whilst Neville Kisten and Kuben Naidoo of Neville's Auto each scored 171 (three triple 19)

Tonight KwaDukuza Darts Association will host a singles tournament at the Taste of India Restaurant commencing at 7pm.

iLembe Chess seeks sponsorshipwith the U13 girls team and the mixed U13 team came 4th. In the 2013 provincial tournament the U18 New Guerlderland team won bronze with the Stanger Manor mixed team also taking bronze. In the U15 mixed team Melville Primary also won bronze and the U13, both the girls and mixed teams won gold.

iLembe Chess Association held its first CHESSA rated iLembe Junior Chess Trials on 16/17 August 2014 at Umhlali Prep. 102 kids were present to share their skills in six rounds of 60/60 minutes games. 48 learners were selected to represent KwaZulu Natal in the

South African Junior Chess Trials to be held in Kimberley from 3-7 January 2015. However they are experiencing problems to raise R6000 to make the trip. As there was no funding, participants had topay an entrance fee of R50 and DSR iLembe donated the medals and trophies. KZNCA provided chess equipment. iLembe Chess would like to thank these institutions for their support and they also thanked Keith Rust (Chief Arbitor) and Spha Nkosi was his assistant.
