This week Year 3 and Year 5 students will complete the National Assessment Program- Literacy And Numeracy (NAPLAN). NAPLAN tests the sort of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. While NAPLAN is a great way for parents to compare their child’s performance against national peers and for schools to map student achievement and measure the success of their teaching programs, there are other important factors to remember. NAPLAN is a one off test that provides a snapshot of learning from mainly multiple choice answers. It is imperative that we do not put undue pressure on our children to perform in these tests. Teachers see on a daily basis what their students can and cannot do, and they modify their teaching accordingly. Due to this they have a much better understanding of your child than what a one off test can give you. Please reassure your child that NAPLAN is not something to be worried about. We encourage them to have a go and try their best. And if you have any concerns about your child’s learning, please see their teacher. Star Struck rehearsals begin this week and I would like to acknowledge all the extra work Miss Gnauck has done to prepare the students for this event. Without all the additional work of our teachers and administrative staff, our students would not be lucky enough to have so many different experiences. B. P&C Meeting

Dear Parents,

I hope all our mums and nans had a relaxing Mother’s Day. What a lovely

morning we had last Thursday for our Mother’s Day breakfast. It was

great to see so many people attending. Thank you very much to the P&C

and Kelly and the girls from George Brand Real Estate for the beautiful

breakfast.

This week Year 3 and Year 5 students will complete the National

Assessment Program- Literacy And Numeracy (NAPLAN). NAPLAN tests

the sort of skills that are essential for every child to progress through

school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. While

NAPLAN is a great way for parents to compare their child’s

performance against national peers and for schools to map student

achievement and measure the success of their teaching programs, there

are other important factors to remember. NAPLAN is a one off test

that provides a snapshot of learning from mainly multiple choice

answers. It is imperative that we do not put undue pressure on our

children to perform in these tests. Teachers see on a daily basis what

their students can and cannot do, and they modify their teaching

accordingly. Due to this they have a much better understanding of your

child than what a one off test can give you. Please reassure your child

that NAPLAN is not something to be worried about. We encourage them

to have a go and try their best. And if you have any concerns about your

child’s learning, please see their teacher.

Star Struck rehearsals begin this week and I would like to acknowledge

all the extra work Miss Gnauck has done to prepare the students for

this event. Without all the additional work of our teachers and

administrative staff, our students would not be lucky enough to have so

many different experiences.

Student Welfare Positive climate and good discipline is the second main area of student welfare at our school. We

aim to provide opportunities for students to demonstrate success in a wide range of activities.

We have strong policies and procedures to protect the rights, safety and health of all our

students and school community members. To do this we have clear school rules and every

classroom follows these rules using the traffic light system. Good behaviour is expected at all

times and consequences for misbehaviour are informed by our level system. We encourage

students to take responsibility for their actions.

Stages 2&3 School Camp Deposits are still being accepted for the Stage 2&3 camp being held in Term 3. If you

wish your child to attend this camp could you please return the completed permission

note with payment of $50 to the office asap.

P&C News P&C would like to thank the fantastic volunteers who helped with the Mother’s Day breakfast

which was generously supplied and prepared by Kelly Jackson and her wonderful staff from

George Brand Real Estate, Wyee. The stall was a huge success and students were very happy with

the gifts they purchased. Due to the amount of gifts which were donated the P&C are thrilled to

have made a great profit.

Zone Cross Country After much confusion and changing of dates due to the horrible weather

we endured, 20 students from Wyee Public School attended the Zone

Cross Country on an altered course at Rathmines on Tuesday 5th

May. Even though there was lots of puddles to contend with, Kurt

came 5th and went on to compete at Regional, Hunter placed 7th,

Riley, Cameron and Kobi also did well in their age group. Best placed

girl was Abbey. Thanks to all parents who assisted and encouraged

our students across the line.
