F.W. Webb’s 17th Annual Vermont Expo was held on May 6, 2010 at the Barre Auditorium in Barre Vermont. It was a great turnout, as always, with well over 100 manufacturers showcasing their products. A great time and great deals were had by all.

The Syracuse open house was a smashing success with over 900 customers and 1150 total including vendors and Employees. The new 100,000 sq foot facility was fully opened in February with a 5000 sq ft batch center. The customer and vendor feedback was outstanding and many prizes were given away. Everyone left with something!!

Chip Slattery Promoted to Internet Marketing Manager

Announcing Chip Slattery as the newly creat-ed position of In-ternet Marketing Manager. “This position has been created in

the company so that we can grab more business on the world wide web,” quotes Jeff Pope. Chip’s position will be to market all the web sites that have been, and will be created for the internet. He will also be looking at current stuff like Twitter, Facebook and other sources to see where Webb can make more on-line noise. He will be trying to grab as many e-mail addresses as he can to blast out news and sales promotions also. When our new WebbConnect is ready, Chip will make sure that people know when they surf the internet. I look forward to Chip helping Webb to become a prominent player in this unique market. Congratulations Chip!!

At 65,000 square feet, F.W. Webb Hyannis is one of their largest branches in the area. The new location features a Frank Webb’s Bath Center, a massive warehouse with 20,000 sq. ft. mezzanine, 10,000 sq. ft. self service counter area and a fully networked training and conference area with a capacity for over 80 people. What is unique about this facility is that it heats the ware-house area and domestic hot water needs with a hybrid geothermal heating system. Prior to installing the new system, the “building envelope “ was upgraded as well. This included a thermal image of the building. They added insu-lation, sealed any cracks and improved weather stripping and dock seals to help make the building itself as energy efficient as possible. At the heart of the system are a water furnace distributed water-to-air heat pump system consisting of 15 heat pumps, 3 energy recovery units or heat exchangers, seven wells (3 feed and 4 return) and a 2000 gallon thermal mass tank with two heat exchangers. One unit heats water, the other takes heat from the water. The Cape has relatively stable groundwater temperatures, (45-55 degrees) which makes it ideal for this type of application. The energy recov-ery units keep the warehouse temperature range from 55-75 degrees. The hybrid part of the system is the solar side.On the roof of the building are thirty Buderus SKN3.Ov flat plate solar panels. Twenty-six of these panels provide heat to the warehouse area and four provide domestic hot water. The solar system reduces the load on the geothermal sys-

tem and on a perfect, sunny day will provide up to 750,000 BTUs of energy, equivalent to 5.4 gal of #2 fuel oil. All of the products used in this installation, from pipe, valves, fittings, solar panels, expansion tanks, heat exchang-ers, pumps, controls, variable speed drives, storage tanks, energy recovery units, data loggers, heat pumps, thermo-stats and more are available from Webb. The building will be Energy Star certified and then re-certified after a year of operation. There is no back-up boiler for this installa-tion. They burn no fossil fuels. It is 100% geothermal and thermal solar. Says branch manager Marc Nantel, “I am extremely proud of our new building and of this new instal-lation in particular. Our mechanical contractor did a great job on this installation. We are going to showcase it to all of our customers. It really is state of the art and best of all, we were able to coordinate and supply all of the materials for the job.”

For more information, a facility tour or a quote, please call the Hyannis branch at 508-775-3890. For other information or a branch nearer to you please call the main office at 781-272-6600.

Please join us in congratulating Nick Pelletier on his promotion to Operations Manager in the F.W. Webb Bangor branch. Nick has been with Webb since 2006 as CIP Co-ordinator in the

state of Maine and he is looking forward to this new opportunity.

We are pleased to announce that Matt Hancur has been promoted to Webb Bio-Pharm’s Sanitary Pump Product Manager. As we all know,

Matt has embraced the pump aspect of our business over the last 18 months and has dedicated his time learning how to size pumps and all of the techni-cal aspects that go along with that. We have seen a significant increase in our pump sales along with our pump repairs and a lot of this has to do with Matt’s expertise and willingness to learn. Con-gratulations Matt!

I am happy to an-nounce that Brett Finemore of th Queens-bury branch will re-ceive the 2009 Lothar Kartanos Memorial Award. The previous recipients were Devon

Craig of the Williston branch and Daryl Schoellkopf of Kentrol/Sevco.

This award exemplifies the highest stan-dards of Sales Professionalism, Leader-ship, Teamwork, Dedication and Loyalty that Lothar Kartanos epitomized through his career at F.W. Webb Company.

The drain is isolated from the collection chambers when the handle is in the COLLECT position. As the handle is moved from COLLECT to DRAIN, the collection chambers are isolated from the system before they are connected to the drain through the valve.

Grundfos day at Webb PumP

15

Webb Pump was pleased to host the Grundfos Pumps on Tour trailer at our Cranston Rhode Island facility on May 14th from 10AM to 3PM! The event was extremely well-attended with more than 100 of our key customers taking the time out of their busy day to visit our shop and learn about one of our key product lines. The impressive Grundfos trailer featured the latest in pump technology and acted as a 30-person

classroom for the three product seminars that were con-ducted over the course of the day by Grundfos personnel. We anchored the event with a first-class catered barbecue and we added to the fun by raffling off five prizes including the Grand Prize Gas Grill as well as Red Sox tickets and restaurant gift certificates. While the weather was not the most cooperative, the rain held off and we even saw some sun by late afternoon!

Jim Bodle (r) and Dave Buckless (l) prior to the big event!

The trailer offered customers the opportunity to see the latest in energy-saving variable-speed technology as well as insight into the full breadth of the Grundfos family of companies.

Webb Pump was pleased to have over 100 people in attendance for the show; our repair facility doubled as a full-service cafeteria for the day!

B&M Clambake Company did an ex-ceptional job on the day and provided a full-service BBQ and steak-tips lunch for the crowd. The event was so well-attended that more food had to be brought in at the last minute to feed the masses.

The Pumps on Tour truck offered working demos of VFD-based pumping systems. Customers were able to get some hands-on time with the products to learn how process variables can affect their pump’s performance and energy usage.

Grundfos’ Pumps on Tour program is anchored by an impressive 80 foot tractor trailer that expands to provide a product showcase and a teaching classroom that sits 30 people.

Ted Haley took the opportunity to present a seminar on high-purity pump repair and testing to a team of engineers from Genzyme.

In addition to the hands-on pump demos, Andy Sayegh from Grundfos hosted three semi-nars over the course of the day that edu-cated our customers on the Grundfos company, latest products, and their commitment to new product development.

Sid Goode from Rhodes won a set of prime Red Sox tickets for a July game!

Farrell Loughlin from Rhodes was the proud winner of the Grand Prize Gas Grill!

Amazingly enough, we had two winners from Rhodes Technologies!

Quality engineering and manufacturing excellence assure that our pressure regulators meet all the requirements of a precision device including:

• Pressure accuracy• Sensitivity• Supply pressure immunity

• Drift-free settings• Low output droop

Electro-pneumatic TransducersThe electro-pneumatic transducer was developed as a smaller, lighter, and more cost effective alternative to the M/P. An electro-pneumatic I/P, E/P, D/P, and P/I transducer receives an analog or digital input control signal and converts it to a regulated pneumatic output that is directly or inversely related to the input.

Pneumatic Volume BoostersA pneumatic air volume booster reproduces a low flow control signal with a greater flow regulated output pressure. It uses an unregulated input pressure to maintain a regulated output pressure under flowing and nonflowing conditions.

Today’s thermoplastic piping systems can provide many different benefits over other materials. Some of these benefits include low total cost of ownership, excellent chemical resistance, improved flow characteristics, great insulating properties, and much more. That’s why it’s important to make sure when you’re considering a plastic piping system for any application, that it is approved for the application. When in doubt, please ask an expert! John Romano

Harvel announces the launch of EnviroKingUV™, a clear PVC piping that is suitable for exposure to sunlight. Unique UV blocking technology reduces harmful ultraviolet light wavelengths from penetrating the plastic while allowing beneficial wavelengths through. EnviroKingUV™ offers a cost-effective solution for photobioreactor tubing and other outdoor applications exposed to sunlight where transparency is required.

Harvel EnviroKingUV™ piping is produced from a unique, rigid, transparent PolyVinyl Chloride (PVC) compound with a Cell Classification of 11553 per ASTM D1784. This material, which shows a slight blue tint, has been specifically formulated to block damaging UV light. Harvel EnviroKingUV™ is patent pending.

“EnviroKingUV™ was developed to meet the demands of innovative technologies and emerging green industries,” says Bill Weaver, Harvel’s director of technical services. “It’s ideally suited for a wide range of outdoor applications including biofuel processing, carbon recycling, process R&D, filtration, and sight glass.”

Harvel EnviroKingUV™ possesses the well-known benefits of rigid PVC such as exceptional corrosion resistance; smooth interior walls for unimpeded flow and reduced sediment buildup; fast, reliable solvent-welded connections; good pressure-bearing capability; and ease of handling and installation, to name a few. All of these important attributes are now available in a unique transparent product with UV stability.

The ALMATEC pump series BIOCOR is especially designed for sterile applications within the pharmaceutical, biotechnical and food industry. The air-operated diaphragm pumps are EHEDG certificated and ATEX conform according to 94/9/EG directive. BIOCOR pumps with a material combination of PTFE (diaphragms, ball valves, O-rings) equipped with a diaphragm monitoring are 3-A approved. The special design with the integrated cleaning-system enables the CIP (clean in place) and SIP (sterilization in place) capability.

Always a demand for sterile applications: all housing parts of the BIOCOR pumps show no horizontal areas. Each pump comes with four ball lifting magnets, which can be attached to the pump housing from the outside at the location of the four ball valves. The ball valves are risen up magnetically out of their seats and the pump is drained entirely without having to be dismounted. There are no mechanical ball lifters with parts and seals in the wetted area.

The two pump sizes B 20 and B 32 achieve max. capacities of 3.5 and 7.5 m³/h resp. a max. discharge pressure up to 7 bar The material for the wetted housing parts is electro polished SS 316 L (1.4435, according to Basel Standard II, ferrite content < 1%) with a surface roughness of < 0.4 µm. The center block is made of polyethylene conductive.

As a result of excessive use, shearing and damage can occur to equipment causing undetectable product contamination. Elasto-tech metal detectable elastomers can eliminate product recall, lower product loss and decrease the risk of elastomers consumed in finished product.

A common problem with component and filler parts is excessive wear and tear. When rubber breaks off a moving part it can migrate through your system and into your product. Searching for the locating fragmented rubber parts is a costly, time consuming and inconclusive process requiring expensive x-ray equipment, manual observation and an extensive maintenance program. Not locating a worn and lost rubber piece can have an even costlier outcome.

By manufacturing a standard elastomer with a metal impregnated compound, displaced rubber material can now be located by an in line detector. This alarm enables your system to instantly reject contaminated product.

Elasto-tech is available in Buna, FKM, Tuf-Steel, EPDM and Silicone.

Meets High Standards:

• Elastomers meet Title 21 CFR 177.2600• Tuf-Steel meets Title 21 CFR 177.1550• Meets USDA Hazard Analysis and Critical Controls Points• Detectable metal additive meets the latest revision of the Food

Chemicals Codex• Animal Derived Ingredient Free

IntelliCon®-CHS is a microprocessor-controlled, fuel-sav-ing device for commercial steam heating systems. Intelli-Con-CHS reduces: fuel consumption, wear on parts, fuel emissions and electrical usage, when installed on any new or existing gas or oil burner. IntelliCon-CHS saves energy by adjusting the burner run pattern to match the system’s “heat load.” Its action is similar to the industry-accepted method of “outdoor-air tempera-ture reset control,” but does not require an outdoor-air temperature sensor or the need to profile the building in order to adjust the “reset” controller properly. IntelliCon-CHS determines the “heat load” by using an eas-ily installed pressure sensor that monitors the boiler’s steam-pressure and the rate that this pressure is changing.

IntelliCon®-CAC typically reduces Commercial Air Conditioning electric consumption by 10% to 20% or more. The IntelliCon-CAC is a microprocessor-based, UL listed, electronic control that uses intelligent Dy-

namic Cycle Management (DCM) tech-nology to automatically adjust the com-pressor cycles to achieve the greatest efficiency and reduced electrical usage, while assuring consistent temperature levels. IntelliCon-CAC is maintenance free, easy to install by a qualified installer, and is guaranteed to save energy.

IntelliCon®-CHW is a microprocessor-controlled fuel-saving device for commercial hot-water heating systems. IntelliCon-CHW reduces: fuel consumption, wear on parts, flue emissions and electrical usage, when installed on any new or existing gas or oil burner.

IntelliCon®-RU will reduce electric con-sumption—typically 10% to 20%—when installed on commercial refrigeration/ freezer (refrigeration) systems. Intelli-

Con-RU represents a major advancement in refrigeration system energy-saving technology, unsurpassed in today’s commercial refrigeration marketplace. IntelliCon-RU is easily installed by a qualified installer, maintenance free and guaranteed to save energy.
