Construction is underway in Waterford, CT at the home of F.W. Webb’s 74th branch. The new multi-purpose facility, scheduled to open this summer, will house F.W. Webb’s plumbing and heating supply products, a self-serve area, a warehouse, and a Frank Webb’s Bath Center.

In support of F.W. Webb’s “Go Green” initiative, a closed-loop solar-geothermal system will be used for heating and cooling the facility and for hot water. The state-of-art system will handle 85 percent of the building’s heating and cooling load thereby saving energy and significantly reducing operating costs.

Twelve 500-foot earth coupled boreholes—each of which contains a closed-loop, U-tube heat exchanger—will allow the building to make use of the relatively constant temperatures below the earth’s surface—warmer than the surface in winter and cooler in summer. VFD pumps will circulate water through the system, saving energy by matching the pump speed to the fluctuations in demand.

Fifty roof-mounted thermal solar panels will harness solar energy and feed it into the 10,000-gallon underground solar storage

tank. A solar panel drain-back configuration uses plain water instead of glycol which eliminates the need for efficiency-robbing heat exchangers or glycol additives. A single evacuated tube, high-temperature thermal solar panel will provide domestic hot water.

An added benefit for F.W. Webb is the opportunity to showcase the equipment they sell for geothermal and solar heating and cooling systems. The Waterford project will include a training room for demonstrating F.W. Webb products. An area in the warehouse near the training room will afford an open view of the operational geothermal system.

“The Waterford location is important to F.W. Webb’s expansion into Connecticut. It provides excellent access for our customers, in addition to creating 30 new jobs in the area,” said Phil Vultaggio, General Manager of the Waterford facility. “We’re particularly enthusiastic about having the hybrid solar-geothermal system in our new facility. F.W. Webb is committed to helping our customers explore options for alternative energy, and this just makes it easier to demonstrate what these systems can do,” said Vultaggio.

Jerry Fortier is retiring after 40 years at F. W. Webb. Jerry has been General Manager of Central Distribution since 1970. Greg Bodlovick will assume the position and responsibility of

managing this facility which provides the inventory fulfillment for the 74 F.W. Webb locations. Greg has been with F.W. Webb since 1997 and has managed F.W. Webb branches as well as CD Sales master distribution and the Call Center.

The mechanical retained seal option is now stan-dard on all sizes of the Fabri-Valve C67’s ordered after October 1, 2009. This popular option features set screws that are drilled into the bottom portion of the flange. These screws press against the seal that is retained in the valve body by its trapezoidal shape. Since the feature is now standard, there is no additional cost for this popular feature.

cam-tite® and cam-line® ball ValVes with h-series compact actuators haVe been conVerted to c-series compact ii actuators. the compact ii is one oF the most rugged actuators on the world market. due to its ruggedness, compact oFFers a seVen year warranty on the actuator.

Advantages of the C-Series Compact actuators:• Powerful - Four pistons generate twice the torque of compa-

rably sized two piston designs• Energy saver - Reduces the average air consumption by 50%

due to compact physical size• Fastest - Has faster stroke due to shorter travel distance• Smallest and Lightest - Size is about 50% of a traditional 2

piston actuator with same torque value, due to the 4 piston design

• Minimal easy maintenance• Less wear of moving parts (piston and o-rings) than any tradi-

tional 2 piston actuator due to the concentric pistons design• Safe springs configuration change with cover bolts long

enough to release spring load before removing the cover• Easy spring configuration changes, due to concentric spring structure• Wide options of Fail/Safe combinations, particularly in low air operating pressure

The H-Series actuator has been discontinued and ITT will no longer ship or quote the obsolete H-Series actuator. If you have any questions, please contact Scott Varney at Webb Kentrol/Sevco, 800.452.1928.

applications:

• Boilers/Burners• Ovens/Furnaces• Kilns/Incinerators• Heating Equipment• Gas Generators

Features & benefits:

• Higher flow: Up to two times more flow than com-petition

• Compact footprint: The compact double valve design significantly reduces fuel train length. This will reduce the OEM’s equipment footprint and make it suitable for space restrictive applications

• Low ambient operating temperature range: New valves can be installed in frigid environments (as low as -40°F locations)

• Modular design: Modular design allows customers the flexibility to configure gas trains to fit their exact needs:- Double solenoid gas train delivers an exceptionally

small footprint- Double Hydramotor ® gas train provides the highest

flow/BTU rating in the industry- Single solenoid and single Hydramotor combination gas

train for slow opening applications- Various options are available (visual indication, proof of

closure, and others)• Improved installation and service:

- Flexible field mounting- Customers can utilize flange adapters to simplify mount-

ing (no pipe unions required)- NPT ports for direct mounting- Multipoise design allows customers to install our valves

in many orientations- Minimize maintenance downtime- Flange adapters simplify valve removal- Ease of handling- Up to 50% less weight than competitors

• Reduce cost of ownership- Select smaller, lower cost components due to high

flow design- Reduced labor (installation & maintenance) cost due to

the benefits of flange adapters- Reduced inventory cost due to broad ambient tempera-

ture capability- Lighter valves reduce OEM’s equipment shipping cost

• Most constructions available as part of the ASCO Today or 5-Day program to help keep production lines running smoothly.

A burst or pinhole leak in a hydraulic system can cause serious problems – especially for anything or anyone located within a three-foot line-of-sight. Personal injury. Fluid burns and injection. Fires and ex-plosions. Electrical shock. Mechanical failure.

Now, Gates has engineered the first sleeving system specifically designed to protect operators, equip-ment and the environment from the hazards of catastrophic hydraulic hose failure – a level of protec-tion previously unavailable.

The LifeGuard™ line-of-sight sleeving system (patent pending) is an effective, economical alternative to costly metal shielding or re-routing of hose lines. And it does not affect system performance.

• Provides containment of up to 6,000 psi bursts • Protects against 3,000 psi pinhole leaks at 212°F for up to five minutes• Handles hydraulic fluids and biodiesel fuel• Allows fluid to safely escape down the length of the assembly• Creates noticeable spill for hose failure detection• Correlates to ISO 3457 and meets MSHA’s flame resistance requirements• No other sleeve provides this level of protection• Patent pending system includes Gates hose, couplings, sleeve and channel clamps

Total equipment isolation valves are never 100% reliable. For this reason, most safety regulations require positive shutoff devices such as Line Blinds. This is especially true in high-temperature, critical services. Strahman Line Blinds combine 100% positive shutoff with very quick actuation. This reduces the time-consuming changes of standard spectacle plates. They are specifically designed for a wide range of temperatures and meet the APi 607 rev.4 fire safe standards.

Strahman pioneered the development of the non-spreading and quick-action Lind Blinds and was the first company to receive Lloyd’s of London certification for the its Line Blinds used in cryogenic application such as LNg.

our technology and expertise provides you with an extensive range of standard Line Blinds and the ability to design a solution that meets your unique application.

Asahi/America offers three system choices to meet every customer’s purity and cost requirements. Purad™ UHP PVDF is our premier high purity system for the most stringent applications. PolyPure™ Natural Polypropylene and PP-Pure™ Pigmented Polypropylene offer cost effective solutions for the average user.

Purad™ UHP PVDF is the premier product for high purity water systems. The SOLEF™ PVDF resin we carefully selected and our stringent cleanroom manufacturing process provides the cleanest piping material available. Purad™ is the best choice for systems with critical requirements for water quality and the prevention of product manufacturing impacts. Purad™ is the only system with a complete range of fittings in the thin wall SDR 33 (150 psi) for 3” and 4” (90 & 110mm) sizes. This option provides a significant cost savings for Asahi customers.

PolyPure™ Natural Polypropylene systems provide excellent high purity perfor-mance and cost effective installation. PolyPure™ systems are specified and in-stalled with confidence for a variety of high purity applications including USP Purified Water, Institutional Laboratory, Deionized Water and RO Water Systems. PolyPure is fully pressure rated to 150 psi across the entire size range and does not derate in larger diameters like competitive systems.

PP-Pure™ Pigmented Polypropylene systems provide a wide size range and the best cost savings on large scale water systems up to 12”. This system is com-monly considered for large diameter non-critical UPW lines for the semiconductor and photovoltaic industries.

Today’s thermoplastic piping systems can provide many different benefits over other materials. Some of these benefits include low total cost of ownership, excellent chemical resistance, improved flow characteristics, great insulating properties, and much more. That’s why it’s important to make sure when you’re considering a plastic piping system for any application, that it is approved for the application. When in doubt, please ask an expert! John Romano

Standard HVAC vs. Radiant Hydronics w/DOAS*

Leaky pipes can damage your building and eat into the cost savings of operating a hydronic system. Luckily, Aquatherm’s maintenance-free Cli-matherm eliminates the shortcomings of other piping systems. Climatherm’s polypropylene pipes and fittings combine the strength of metal pipe wit the

abrasion and corrosion resistance of plastic. Using features like heat-fusion connections and integrated expansion control, Clima-therm is the only hydronic distribution system that won’t leave you all we.

There’s a lot to take into account when selecting walk-in coolers and freezers. One size doesn’t fit all – you need the right dimensions, details and accessories to find a walk-in that will be right for your operation.

A Harford walk-in is created to suit your exact needs. To make that possible, we start with sectional panels that can be configured to create exactly the walk-in you require, in virtually any shape or dimensions. Those panels are fabricated with durable skins – you’ll choose the variety of metal that’s best for you – sandwiched around a four-inch thickness of super-insulating poured-foam urethane. The panels are supported by a durable floor of the same basic construction, and complemented by exactly the accessories you need.

When it’s finished, you’ll have a walk-in that’s truly tailored to your needs. Expect economy, long life and a favorable repair record. Above all, expect a walk-in that’s a smooth-functioning part of your kitchen for years to come.
