Begin your exploration of Bordeaux in the Médoc with Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Pauillac. Th ere has been just one change in status in the First
Growth Classifi cation of 1855. In all that time, only Château Mouton Rothschild was elevated to First Growth status from heading the second growth
list, in 1973. After touring their beautiful facilities and enjoying their fascinating private Museum of Wine in Art, you’ll be joined for an extensive tasting.
Lunch will be at Restaurant Lavinal in the village of Bages, owned by the same family as Classified Growth Chateau Lynch Bages. After lunch
and a bit of free time to discover the village of Bages, visit a “Super 2nd” estate located in Pauillac: Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de
lalande. In addition to visiting their impressive winery and lovely cellars, you’ll also see the owner’s extensive personal collection of priceless glass
works. Your tasting will take place on the private garden patio behind the estate, with views over their vineyards and those of Chateau Latour, with the
wide Gironde River in the background. (Th is visit may be replaced with another Super Second such as Chateau Rauzan Segla or Chateau Leoville
Las Cases.) There will be time to return to your hotel to freshen up before going to Bordeaux for dinner at La Tupina. One of Bordeaux’s most talented
chefs runs this cozy spot with a summer terrace near Quai De La Monnaie.
DAY 2, TUESDAY THE MIGHTY MEDOC B,L,D
Our explorations in the Médoc continue with an exceptional opportunity to view and participate in the annual harvest. Led by a group of dedicated
chateaux owners who are proud to share their experience with us, get a behind-the-scenes view of winemaking, starting in the vineyards. We’ll start
at a Cru Bourgeois estate, Chateau Paloumey, and head out in the vineyards to experience how the harvest is done, and gather grapes ourselves
before taking a well deserved break and enjoying a traditional harvest lunch on the property. Next we’ll learn about sorting out the harvest, the art
and science of blending, vat-tastings, and final bottle tastings at Chateau la Tour de Bessan. La Tour de Bessan is owned by Marie-Laure Lurton,
who is part of a group of women vintners in the Les Medocaines region, slowing changing the face of the Bordeaux wine world. Return to the hotel at
the end of the afternoon. Tonight, dine at the casual bistrot of the Grand Hotel: le Bordeaux. Le Bordeaux has two fl oors and looking out onto the
Place de la Comédie. It is designed in the spirit of the Belle Epoque and evokes the great 19th century brasseries. A contemporary twist on wines by
the glass, Le Bordeaux off ers guests the rare opportunity to enjoy leading Bordeaux grand crus served from magnums and double-magnums.

Head to Péssac Léognan this morning, where you’ll be welcomed at First Growth Chateau Haut Brion, the oldest and smallest of the First Growths. Th e chateau
lies in Pessac Leognan, just 1 mile away from the city of Bordeaux and is the only non Médoc estate to be included in the 1855 classifi cation. Next, a special treat
awaits you at another classifi ed growth, Chateau Haut Bailly, with a private tour and tasting, followed by a private wine tasting lunch in the chateau. Th is
afternoon, the King of Sauternes is our destination, as we meet with the winemaker to tour and taste at Chateau d’Yquem. Here you’ll learn how the Noble Rot
turns the best Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes into liquid gold in this exceptional terroir. Return to your hotel at the end of the afternoon and enjoy an
evening on your own.
DAY 4, THIRSDAY GRAVES AND SAUTERNES B,L
Head east, across the Dordogne River, to the Right Bank this morning where you’ll visit the lovely medieval village of Saint Emilion, a UNESCO World Heritage
Site. Th e morning holds tastings at two legendary vineyards.
Th e first is in appellation Saint Emilion, one of Bordeaux’s oldest vineyards, producing well-structured wines with great character that comes from a judicious
blending of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes. One of the great First Growths will open its doors to you for a tour and tasting, such as
Chateau Troplong Mondot. Th e story of Troplong- Mondot is very much a modern one: a tale of how one generation took the reins and turned a very adequate
family business into a highly successful one, and how that success was rewarded with elevation in the 2006 reclassifi cation of St Emilion -from Grand Cru
Classé to Premier Grand Cru Classé.
Then discover the other prestigious appellation of this area, Pomerol. Th is tiny appellation is considered the world’s preeminent terroir for Merlot, producing
wines of great character and complexity. You’ll enjoy a tour and tasting, at the completely refurbished Chateau Petit village. Laid out in a triangular shape, the
estate consists of 11 hectares of vineyards, with a nucleus of small buildings that serve as winery, vineyard and business offi ces. Interestingly, this is presumed to
account for its name, which means “small village”. You’ll have time to explore St. Emilion’s historic monuments, boutiques and wine shops, and for lunch on your
own. Your final gala dinner will be a private meal in the chateau of Château la lagune, with some very special wines. Château la lagune, is a third growth estate
from the Haut-Medoc, has a terroire that combines the elegance and balance that typifies great wines from Bordeaux.

Explore the Côte de Beaune today, home to the greatest Grand Cru white wine vineyards like the legendary Montrachet, as well as the famous appellations of Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Volnay. The Côte de Beaune is best known for its great white wines made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, perfectly suited to the limestone soils. The whites of the Côte de Beaune are full-bodied, with tremendous elegance, complexity and minerality. Th e reds are generally more feminine andlighter-bodied than in the Côte de Nuits, with softer tannins. Another treat today: a Montrachet wine discovery and tasting lunch, with special study of Montrachet fields. Return to your hotel at the end of the afternoon, with some free time before dinner.
Dinner will be at the iconic Ma Cuisine in the heart of Beaune. Voted by 400 French gastro-journalists in 2006 as the best wine bistro in France, this has been a must-visit restaurant since it opened.

Wine Tours in the Rhone Valley and Provence boast some of the most spectacularly beautiful vineyards in France. Vines cover the landscape
as far as the eye can see, punctuated by olive groves and lavender fields. This region is also a food lover's paradise with both sweet and savory
treasures to be discovered. The French Riviera provides an incredibly rich variety of fascinating sites to discover while enjoying the full-bodied,
expressive local wines and sun-drenched Provençale cuisine.
Arrive in the beautiful walled city of Avignon. Check into your lovely 4* centrally located hotel La Mirande near the Popes' Palace. This
eighteenth-century mansion has interiors that reflect the period, with painted woodwork and antique-tile floors. Rooms are “classy and
sophisticated but with a touch of whimsy.” A special welcome dinner awaits you at the hotel this evening. Every Tuesday and Wednesday night, a
delightful 'table d'hôte' is hosted by the chef in the 19th century kitchen. Guests are invited to sit around the huge wooden table, at one end of
which the chef prepares the meal, making use of the antique wood-fired stove. The fixed menu, made using local produce, is chosen according to
the daily market and the chef's own inspiration. This is an entertaining way to encounter Provence's lifestyle and people.
Today our journeys take us to Chateauneuf du Pape and Gigondas. You'll be greeted by your English-speaking, wine expert guide/driver for a visit
to three leading wine estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas. The morning commences in vineyards high up in the Gigondas hills
where your guide explains how “terroir” influences the wines that you will taste at the cellar of a leading producer. After a wine tasting lunch at an
excellent local restaurant, you will travel to Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The 14th century Papal chateau - a monument to this village's rich wine history -
towers over the village. As you tour the scenic vineyards and the cellars of two leading estates your guide will explain how the diverse terroir, grape
varieties and winemaking methods define the characteristics and quality of the wines that you taste. Return to your hotel for an evening on own.
