Welcome! We are excited and grateful to have you join us. Most of all, I want everyone to have a good time, and I want you to know that your enjoyment tonight also supports the critical assistance we provide to thousands of children in Oregon each year.

Youth, Rights & Justice is known for the great impact we have. We help individual children in foster care and those struggling in schools, but we also impact the lives of thousands of children and youth statewide through our lobbying and litigation.

In addition to the hundreds of thousands of lives we have impacted since 1975, here are a few, more recent examples of the kind of influ-ence we have had:

• A settlement reached by YRJ and Disability Rights Oregon with Portland Public Schools will increase and improve services to 150 students with disabilities each year in the district’s transition pro-gram.

• As the result of changes to the law and administrative rules we sought, more than 500 fewer foster children were prescribed power-ful psychiatric drugs in the first year after improved oversight was implemented by the state in 2008.

• There are more than 5,000 children age 5 and younger served by Oregon’s foster care system each year. YRJ improved the chances that Oregon’s youngest foster children with special needs will get appropriate care. YRJ successfully pursued appeals on behalf of several children when appropriate care was denied, and this led DHS to improve and update its policies.

Named for owner Paul Gerrie’s mother, the Marjorie Vineyard is one of the oldest vineyards in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA and home to some of the oldest vines. “This wine typically leads with a perfumed nose that is reminiscent of fresh-cut

flowers, red fruits and sweet spices.”

The Eileen Vineyard has the highest elevation on the Cristom property. Named for Paul Gerrie’s wife (and co-owner of Cristom), Eileen Gerrie. “Wines from the Eileen vineyard are often rounder on the palate with less minerality. Typically, Eileen is textured, layered and creamy on the palate and often recognizable by its bouquet of sweet spices. “

Named after Paul Gerrie’s paternal grandmother, Jessie Sommers, Jessie Vineyard is the steepest on the Cristom property. “Jessie Vineyard tends to produce Pinot Noirs that we recognize by a savory aroma that often calls to mind rare-beef. It also tends to have a very fresh and appealing scent of minerality, along with some higher tone lavender—purple flower notes. On the palate, Jessie tends towards a full mouth-

Paul Gerrie’s maternal grandmother was the namesake of Louise Vineyard, the first Cristom estate vineyard planted. “The wine is more heavily textured, dark-fruited and more concentrated in flavor than any of our other estate Pinot Noir. We often find creamy-mocha latte notes on the bouquet co-mingling with dark red fruits that are reminiscent of fresh mulberries, very ripe blackberries, plums and black cherries along with hints of chocolate.”
