What iBeacon is

In mid-2013 Apple introduced iBeacons and experts wrote about how it is designed to help the retail industry by simplifying payments and enabling on-site offers.

Short story about iBeacon

On December 6, 2013, Apple activated iBeacons across its 254 US retail stores. McDonalds has used the devices to give special offers to consumers in its fast-food stores.

● Immediate (less than 50 centimetres)

● Near (approximately between 50 centimetres and 2 - 5 meters)

● Far (more or less between 2 - 5 meters and 30 - 50 meters, depending on walls, the iBeacon output power and many other factors)

Power consumption depends on iBeacon configuration parameters of advertising interval and transmit power. A study on 16 different iBeacon vendors reports that battery life can range between 1–24 months.
