NSSSA LAWN BOWLS - On Friday 20th March Eden Colli-

er and Stephanie Hay competed in the Northland Secondary

Schools girls pairs section. What a great team they made

and a fantastic result coming in at 1st place. Well done

CRICKET - WGHS 1st XI Cricket Team consisting of Kennedy

Boswell-Smith, Brooke and Paige Golightly, Hayley Green, Jade

Litchfield, Olivia Lobb, Eva Pearson, Caitlin Phillips, Jessica

Pilmer, Tia Saunders and Maria Wright– travelled to Hamilton

for the Northern Regions Secondary Schools Play-off Tourna-

ment. It was a very tight final but great team camaraderie saw

us in the final. WGHS had beaten Tauranga Girls & Hillcrest

High earlier then came up to play against Hamilton Diocese in

the final. With great bowling and fielding skills from WGHS,

they managed to win the final narrowly and to go through to

the Nationals in December. Congratulations on an excellent

result.

EAGLES GOLF The WGHS team placed 2nd to Rodney Col-

lege and Dargaville High School. Taylor Wyatt-Logan and Sok-

taera Sean tied for top female stableford points, both scoring

38. Fantastic result. Photo below shows Soktaerodh Sean,

TEAM SELECTIONS - Our sports teams have been selected and are

ready to go for another year. Unfortunately not all of our students

were selected in the teams they were trailing for due to limited

team numbers. With a huge number of students wanting to play

sport there are always those that miss out on their preferred team.

While missing out is always disappointing it is also a learning point

as to how we respond to this. It is recommended to ask why you

missed out as it could give you an idea on how you can improve.

There is a very good quote from a top sports person—“If you’re

trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks, I’ve had them, many of

them, but obstacles should not stop you achieving. Work out a way

to overcome them and you will achieve.

WHANGAREI ADVENTURE RACING TEAM Sarah Adam, Taylor Campbell, Courtney Crum, Madi Doar,

Grace Elliot, MacKenzie Johnson, Geneva Overwater, Macey

Polwart and Tia Saunders are the WGHS team who

competed together with WBHS team in the 8hr & 12hr rac-

es at Waihi Beach in the Coromandel in March. The teams

did a range of activities including cycling through the Karan-

gahake Gorge, rope swing, train tunnels, coastal trails, raft-

ing and rifle shooting. Our 12 hour teams placed 4th & 6th

with our 8 hour teams placing 3rd & 5th. Lots of fun and

hard work together with great results. A huge thank you to

the amazing parent support of Steve & Frances Hill, Neil

McInnes and Chris Campbell.

NSSSA FUTSAL - Well done to our Futsal girls. U19 WGHS

Gold in 1st place with WGHS Blue team coming up in 3rd

place.U16 WGHS Gold in 2nd place with WGHS Blue team in 4th

place. U14 WGHS were 5th . Great competition all round.

NZSS FUTSAL - Was held in Wellington, it was WGHS first time

and they were unsure what to expect. In the pool play we came

in 3rd position and ended 8th in the finals. This was a fantastic

achievement and the girls should be very proud. Each of the girls

performed exceptionally well, particularly Briar Mortensen as

Captain and Natalie Dey as joint golden boot. FUTSAL TEAM -

Nicole Stratford, Jorja Dempster, Natalie Dey, Cara Doggett,

Georgia Harrold, Zoee Hoy, Alex Kelly, Abbie & Rachel Maher,

Briar Mortensen and Taylor Wyatt- Logan.

NSSSA MOUNTAIN BIKING - This event took place at

the Parahaka Mountain Bike Park in Whareora in March.

well also placing 1st in the Downhill section.

grounds at the beginning of April with WGHS competing

extremely well. Mihi Shepherd 1st in the Intro Dressage

(individual) and Devon Finlayson 3rd in the Pre-Training

Dressage (individual) and Dana Hawkins 3rd in the Pre-

Novice Overall (individual). These girls showed great or-

ganisational skills. The day would not have been a success

if not for the parents who drove the girls up and helped

out throughout the day.

TENNIS - Phoebe Collis and Pippa Saunders attended the

NSSSA Tennis Single Open in March and played very well.

Phoebe had an excellent game getting beaten narrowly 4/3 4/3.

ney districts.
