Dear Parents, It was a delight last week to host representatives from the RSA at our Year 9 & 10 Assembly. Rick Wadmore and Janet Fitzgerald awarded certificates to a big group of Year 10 learners who had worked alongside veterans on Poppy Day. We heard that the veterans appreciated the hard work and good company of our learners who, in turn, reported that they learned so much from the veterans. A Learner Council has been established with representatives from all year levels. This is an excellent opportunity to ensure learners have a forum to discuss matters and have input into what happens at their College. Every two years, we give the opportunity for community consultation with regards the delivery of our Health curriculum. In the past we have held a meeting and a small group of parents have had a worthwhile discussion. This time will be different. If you would like to be involved in the consultation about our Health curriculum, please email Delwyn Argar, Principal’s PA, [email protected] by Friday 7 June. During the following week we will send out information about our delivery of the Health curriculum, and a link to an online survey that we will use to get your feedback. Voting for the Board of Trustee elections will have closed by the time this newsletter goes to print. Thank you to those who are standing and to all those who voted. The new Board will be announced on our website on Thursday 6 June. The Education Review Office will be visiting the College during the week starting Monday 17 June. We look forward to the opportunity that this external audit offers, as we celebrate the many areas of College life that are going well, and strive to continually improve so that your sons and daughters do as well as they can. I always enjoy attending sports and performances. It’s great to see the learners in action, to meet parents and listen to their thoughts and ideas about the College. Kia kaha. Have a good week.

    CONCERT BAND TEAM

BUILDING Instead of Band Camp this year we decided to hold a rehearsal weekend and later challenged ourselves to Ten Pin Bowling. The learners were in mixed teams with a variety of year groups in each. They competed for best dressed as well as creating their own music videos about being in Band.

BIG SING Wednesday 12 June at Auckland Town Hall. Our very own, Cantilena and Girls Choir will be taking part. Tickets are available through The Edge.

NOTEABLE MENTIONS…. Year 13 learner, Camilla Hawnt, volunteered her time and performed solo for 2 hours at the Silverdale RSA Pink Ribbon breakfast held on Saturday 25 May. Her performance was very well received and added to the atmosphere of the event. Camilla was an excellent ambassador for the college, well done!

  • Leisure Centre Basketball Report We currently have two basketball teams playing at the Leisure Centre. Thanks to Logan Keightley (Year 13 learner) who is doing a fantastic job with coaching both of these teams. A great game was played this week by the Fire team, who took the game home with a score of 18 to 14 against the Panthers team. All boys were on the ball this week and played their hearts out . Our player of the day was awarded to Jared Smit, for his huge effort with defence. Thanks to our coach Logan, for inspiring the boys to take home a win for the school. Go the mighty Fire team! Lisa Mason Manager

6th Grade Rugby Report Two games into the season and two very different games played! Our first was against Rosmini College and we were on fire. It was an awesome game. Strong scrums from our forwards and fantastic tries from Matthew Ripley, Matt Burgess, Blake Galley (2), Greg Papadopoulos, Caleb Bayly, Zac Osborne, Joshua Waretini, and Jacob Galley, with good tactical kicks by Matthew Hellesoe. Rosmini scored 2 tries against us in the second half and put on a bit of pressure, but not enough to make a come-back. Final score 56 – 12 to us. On Saturday 25 May, Westlake and Whangaparaoa fought it out. Whangaparaoa started strongly with great game play from Finn, Caleb, and Blake. The boys defended and defended but to no avail. Westlake’s fullback kept their team out of trouble and they made the most of the opportunities that came their way. Westlake got into our heads a bit and was the stronger team on the day. Final score 34 – 0 Westlake. If we knuckle down on our defense and work on our rucks and mauls next time we meet them, there might be a different outcome. Fletcher Corse Scott

Cross-country Congratulations and well done to the following learners, who competed at the North Harbour Zones Cross Country held last Tuesday at Moire Park, Massey. Baylee Shepherd, Fynnola Campbell, Amber Ferriera, Olivia Archer, Lydia Spencer, Trent Griffiths, Chloe Beggs, Yasmine Brooke, Stephanie Muller-Pallares, Tait Trimble, George Boyles, Rachel Smith, Logan Keightley.
