Dear Parents, I have been hearing (and seeing) our College motto a lot more in recent months.

Together Believe Achieve Ngatahi Whakapono Tutuki

It’s simple and shares an excellent message; starting with the importance of working together, supporting each other, and respecting each other. There is a whakatauki (proverb or wise saying) that says something similar.

Waiho I te toipoto kaua I te toiroa Let us join together and not fall apart

Increasingly I am aware of the importance of community togetherness, community responsibility, and even community accountability. For family and community members to feel connected, develop as individuals and flourish; we all need to believe it is possible and work together. Yesterday, I saw some new posters in our eLearning suite. The first was entitled “Positive Social Networking Online for Myself”, and shared the following messages: Reflect on your digital footprint Consciously avoid conflict Share what you know Represent yourself Be confident in removing unpleasant content Keep personal details and experiences private I hope all our learners will consider and follow these wise guidelines. Next week the Education Review Office (ERO) will be visiting the College. On-going reflection and review are key elements to ensure continual improvement; and our Board and staff have conducted many internal reviews. We welcome the opportunity to work with ERO to further enhance our self-review processes so that the best educational outcomes will be achieved by your sons and daughters. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Stephen Dudley, the Kelston Boys’ High School student who died in tragic circumstances recently. Kia kaha
