BackgroundanddescriptionofworksbeingundertakenTheorganwasbuiltbyBishop&Sonin1908andtheinstrumentwasfullyoverhauledbyourorganbuildersGriffithsandCompany(OrganBuildersLtd)in2006.Thefollowingisadescriptionfromtheorganbuildersofthecurrentworksbeingundertaken:“Theorganisgenerallyinexcellentconditionapartfromthedustanddirtthathasaccumulatedsince2006.SomeofthishascomefromthewallabovetheGreatorgan,andbeingparticularlygrittygivessomereasonforconcern.FortunatelytheGreatTrumpetishooded,otherwisetherewouldhavebeenmoreinstancesof“off”notesovertheyears,butit’sneverthelessimportantthatthisgritisremovedbeforeitfindsitswayfurtherintotheinstrument.TheSwellorgan,reservoirandswitchingsystemiscoveredinmore“conventional”dust.Thereislittlewrongwiththeinstrumentapartfromthedustanddirt,whichisaffectingthetuningstabilityandalsomostprobably,thebrightnessoftone.Unfortunatelyit’snotpossibletoremedythiswithoutremovingnearlyallofthe850orsopipes,(allofwhichwillneedtobecleanedindividually)togainaccesstothesoundboards.Thisamountstoaboutamonth’sworkforuptofourpeople.”Cleaninginprogress:
