date the Parish Center doors! The finishing touches are now complete. Several of you have already used them; others may not yet have noticed the change. They are lighter weight, easier to open, allow lots of sunshine in, and are a wonderful way to welcome all our guests and visitors. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
An Outdoor Mass will be celebrated at Mary Queen of Hearts Chapel in Steinthal off Hwy 67 near Kiel on Wednesday, May 5. The Rosary will be prayed at 11am and Mass begins at 11:20. Bring lawn chairs. Beginning Tuesday, May 4, the Rosary will be prayed at St. Gregory every Tuesday evening at 6pm. This will continue through the month of October. Bishop’s Appeal Goals Both parishes have done a remarkable job this year with their respective Appeal goals. Thank you so much! Even when the goal has been met, the promotion of the Appeal does not end. If you have not yet shared a gift this year, you will continue to receive information via mailings from the Catholic Foundation. Please prayerfully consider making your gift to help build and strengthen God’s kingdom. HT & SG May Ministry Schedules have been emailed and copies are available in back of church. A Bake Sale will be held on May 2 following the 8am Mass. It is host- ed by the HT Christian Women. Bring your delicious bakery; monetary donations will be accepted. Half of the profits will go to a local, non- profit organization. HT Christian Women recently gave monetary donations to the CP Telethon and The Crossing in Manitowoc. In May, a donation will be made to The Crossing in Manitowoc to help area mothers in need. May is the Month of Mary The Rosary will be prayed 30 minutes before all Masses & Communion Services at Holy Trinity.

Thoughts for Today’s Readings To The Point: In today’s passage from the parable of the Good Shepherd, we find another insight into Jesus’ dream of how the world might be. While “the wolf” attacks the flock in order to “catch and scatter,” Jesus is the shepherd who leads not only the flock
he is currently tending, but also “other sheep that do not belong to this fold.” In gathering the lost and searching for the scattered, Je- sus does the work of his Father who desires that all should be found, welcomed, loved, and cherished in the family of God. To Experience: As members of God’s people, we experience Je- sus in the healing touch or word of another and also when we are led by the Spirit to minister to others in Jesus’ name. In your path as a disciple, do you find yourself more often as the giver or receiv- er of this grace? 1. In the first reading we hear of “a cripple” who was healed in the
name of Jesus. What areas in your life are in need of healing at this moment?
2. Today’s responsorial psalm proclaims, “The stone rejected by the builders has become the cornerstone.” What examples of this have you seen in your community?
3. In the reading from the first letter of St. Peter, we find a descrip- tion of Christ’s nonviolent response to his persecutors. How do you try to emulate his actions?
4. In the gospel parable Jesus says, “A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” Who are the sheep that you are called to shepherd and how do you give of your life for them?

Hear to Serve …
TAKING A STAND FOR CHRIST
In our first reading this week from Acts of the Apostles, we join Peter and John who have been arrested and are standing before
the Sanhedrin defending themselves for curing a crippled beggar in the temple. The Sanhedrin, once again, are con- cerned over all the excitement happening. These wolves are concerned someone else will take them out of the spotlight and get the glory and honor they want for themselves.
However, Peter doesn’t hide in silence, or take cred- it for himself. No, Peter proclaims and defends himself with the name of Jesus the Christ, even in the face of death. Just when the religious leaders thought they had taken care of Jesus once and for all, they saw that Jesus is still alive and doing mighty deeds through His Apostles.
Peter and John cure in the name of Christ. They proclaim to everyone that there is no salvation except through Jesus the Christ. They do this knowing full well that they could end up just like Jesus.
When we are questioned or confronted about our faith, our religion, or our Catholic identity, can we stand up like Peter and defend ourselves against others of the world? Whether it be someone of another faith asking hon- est questions, or people in general making remarks based on half-truths, can we defend ourselves? When people have assumptions taken from unverified stories and information on the internet, are we able to defend the faith? When public policy or political agendas do not align with the teach- ings of Jesus Christ, are we able to take action and work for change?
Before we defend the faith, we have to know our faith. Have we taken the time to grow in knowledge of our faith since our days in Catholic grade school or the day we got confirmed? Do we really know the true meaning behind our Sacraments? Do we know why we really go to Mass, and why we worship the way we do? Do we know why the Church has taken the stance it has on certain issues such as being married inside a church, birth control, living together, abortion, or the death penalty? These things are not issues of personal opinion. No, these are issues of truth, and Je- sus Christ is the truth.
Being a byproduct of the 60’s and 70’s, I know that my early Catholic education was lacking in many ways. As a Church, we may have spent too much time trying to fit in with other faiths and society. We were more worried about being welcoming and not making waves while we pushed our doctrine, our theology, and teachings to the back pew. As a result, we now have empty pews on Sunday, participation in the Sacraments on a downward spiral, and multitudes of people who don’t understand the gift of our faith.
There are two questions we need to answer in our lives. Do we take a stand for Jesus the Christ, His teach- ings, and the Church He gave us? And are we equipped to do so?
Standing up for Jesus Christ means that we are going to end up just like Jesus. Yes, there will be a heavy cross to bear, and we will be ridiculed and rejected by some, but the end result is being raised on the last day.
Peter didn’t stand and mumble before the world about his faith and neither should we. Deo Gratias, Deacon Gary
