Welcome to HLPC! Houston Lake Presbyterian Church is here for the glory of God to be a graciously redeemed worshiping body that proclaims and lives in the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ so that people, families, and communities in Houston County and beyond may know Christ in all His fullness. Please set all mobile phones to silent mode. Children of all ages are welcome in the worship service. Nursery is provided for children under 4 years of age. Parents are encouraged and welcome to utilize the crying room for infants and young children. Sound is also provided in the foyer.

The Lord’s Supper is being served this morning HLPC welcomes all Christians who are willing to forsake their sin and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation, and who are baptized members of a congregation that proclaims the gospel, to participate in the Lord’s Supper. Children who have been examined by the elders and admitted to the Lord’s Table are able to partake of this Sacrament. If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this sacrament, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer. (Note: The bread is gluten-free.)

LORD’S DAY WORSHIP May 5, 2019

GATHERING Prelude We enter the sanctuary and gather as God’s people with the intent of worshiping the one, true and living God. Let the music being played remind us of our purpose here this morning. Welcome & Announcements Please fill out the connection card located in the seatbacks and drop it in the offering plate at the end of service. Silent Preparation for Worship †Call to Worship - The First Word We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with His Word, His invitation to us to gather in His name. Minister: Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, People: For His steadfast love endures forever; Minister: To Him who alone does great wonders, People: For His steadfast love endures forever; Minister: To Him by His understanding made the heavens, People: For His steadfast love endures forever; (Psalm 136:1, 4, 5) †Prayer for God’s Presence

†Hymn of Praise “Hallelujah, Praise Jehovah” Hymn #110 †Corporate Confession of our Faith Today for our confession of faith we use one of the most comforting expressions of the gospel which is found in the Heidelberg Catechism.

My only comfort in life and in death is that I am not my own, but belong— body and soul, in life and in death— to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to Him, Christ, by His Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for Him.

—from the Heidelberg Catechism, Q&A #1 Recognizing our Graduating Seniors We rejoice with these graduates and their families in recognition of God’s grace and blessing: Josh Barker Ben deLuna Alyssa Ferland Abigail Griffith

REMEMBERING THE GOSPEL Call to Confess Our Sins Confession of sin is a way that we are refreshed in the gospel and are reminded that it is truly good news. Rather than wallowing in our sin we deal with sin and guilt by confessing it and claiming God’s promise of forgiveness in Christ. Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! (Psalm 51:1-2) Silent Prayers of Confession Hymn of Confession & Grace “Come, Ye Sinners”

1. Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched, Weak and wounded, sick and sore; Jesus, ready, stands to save you, Full of pity, joined with power. He is able, He is able; He is willing; doubt no more.

2. Come, ye weary, heavy laden, Bruised and broken by the fall; If you tarry ’til you’re better, You will never come at all. Not the righteous, not the righteous; Sinners Jesus came to call.

3. Let not conscience make you linger, Nor of fitness fondly dream; All the fitness He requires Is to feel your need of Him. This He gives you, this He gives you, ’Tis the Spirit’s rising beam.

4. Lo! The Incarnate God, ascended; Pleads the merit of His blood. Venture on Him; venture wholly, Let no other trust intrude. None but Jesus, none but Jesus Can do helpless sinners good.

Words of Grace Minister: There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1) People: The Lord Jesus Christ, through His perfect life, sacrificial death, and resurrection from the dead has secured our justification and our adoption as God’s children. Praise be to God! †Grace Makes Us Gracious: Greeting One Another Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. (Romans 15:7) †Hymn of Celebration “O Love That Will Not Let Me Go”

1. O Love that will not let me go, I rest my weary soul in thee; I give thee back the life I owe, That in thine ocean depths its flow May richer, fuller be.

2. O light that followest all my way, I yield my flickering torch to thee; My heart restores its borrowed ray, That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day May brighter, fairer be.

3. O Joy that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to thee; I trace the rainbow through the rain, And feel the promise is not vain, That morn shall tearless be.

4. O Cross that liftest up my head,

I dare not ask to fly from thee; I lay in dust life’s glory dead, And from the ground there blossoms red Life that shall endless be.

Prayers of the People Ruling Elder Winfield Tufts

(Concluded by the Lord’s Prayer) Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. HEARING GOD SPEAK †Scripture Reading Genesis 4:17-26 p.4

Minister: This is the Word of the Lord! People: Thanks be to God!

Hymn of Preparation “Jesus, Keep Me near the Cross” (vv.1 & 4) Hymn #264

MEETING GOD AT HIS TABLE Words of Institution Sharing of the Bread and the Cup RESPONDING TO THE GOD OF GRACE Offering Our giving to God is a response to the gospel. We give as an act of worship and also as an expression of our trust in God to meet all our needs. In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35) DEPARTING †Benediction - The Last Word God always has the last word in our worship, and for those who are in Christ Jesus these are always words of blessing. These words come from God, and not from the Pastor. As an expression of receiving this blessing we open our hands. †Singing of the Doxology Hymn #731 All Scripture quotations are from the English Standard Version (ESV).
