Expectations

● PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention & Support) - is our schoolwide proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture and needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success. Students earn tickets for STARS behavior.

●Growth Mindset - In order to promote a positive growth mindset (by Dweck) we praise effort! How? We teach: Try our best! The Power of YET! and F.A.I.L. (First Attempt in Learning). We also promote goal setting.

LiteracyReading, Writing, Speaking & Listening, Language

We implement the Daily 5 structure within our literacy block. We teach CAFÉ Strategies for Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expand Vocabulary (The Daily CAFE)We believe in Kindergarteners as writers and implement the Writers Workshop model (Lucy Calkins) We differentiate instruction to meet the needs of EACH learner. Math

● M.A.T.H. Groups provide hands-on learning with increased rigor to challenge student discovery.

●We encourage meaningful Math Talk as students have group conversations, Students share explanations, discuss alternate strategies and more! (Math Talk)

● Math Homework is provided by WCPSS as repeated practice of Kindergarten Math Units.

Please return completed forms/folders on Tuesdays.● Homework - READ for 20 minutes nightly! Optional Enrichment HW can be found HERE. Homework does not need to be turned in.● Transportation Changes - Call the office 919.856.7676● Volunteers - Registration must be completed EVERY school year.● Birthdays - In the interest of keeping our Hunter healthy focus, we ask that you limit celebrations to one small sweet treat that can be shared at lunch or recess.● Field Trips - We will attend various learning experiences/events

and May 13th-20th) and 1 with Parents/Guardian Conference (February 11th-15th)

● Electives vs. Specials - Specials are attended by our whole class. We register for electives based on student choice forms.
