Welcome Back

Last Time

CLL and the EYFS

Write a text message to demonstrate what you learnt last lesson.

CLL

Why is it important to promote CLL? List 5 resources from your setting that

promote CLL. What might happen to holistic development if

CLL is not promoted?

Today

How to support Creativity Links to holistic development and the EYFS

We will be looking at:

Describe creativity. List resources to promote creativity. Contrast Child and Adult led role play. Produce an activity plan to promote creativity. Outline how creativity promotes holistic

development. Reflect on your role in promoting creativity.

Creativity- what is it?

Creativity- what is it?

“Creativity and the way children learn creatively make up a child’s creative development.

Creativity means: the way children explore objects and materials, the way they try to

solve problems, challenge their thinking and make connections in their learning, and how

children think imaginatively”(Beith et al, 2010, pg436)

Creativity

It’s that important it has its own place in the curriculum!

Look at the EYFS and write down four sub-sections, for each one give an example of how it is promoted in your setting.

Creativity and the Stages of Play

Look at the diagram on page 437 (handout) and refer back to the previous lesson where we looked at stages of play.

Can you see the links? Go back to your pictures and add in the

relevant bits from the table to show the link.

Consider how ALL areas of the EYFS can be promoted during this play activity

One area per learner

Creativity and the EYFS

Plan an activity to promote creativity- State the age range the activity is suitable for.

- Describe the resource and how creativity can be promoted.

-List the other areas of the EYFS that this activity also promotes (add in some suitable quotes from the EYFS)

- What adaptations might you need to make to ensure all can participate with this activity?

Importance of Creativity

Develops cognitive skills Helps children to work together Develops self-esteem and confidence Problem solving Uses senses to explore Makes connections in their learning Develops imagination Enables children to think about how things work

Adults Role

Never Stress the end product – it’s all about the process.

Ensure there is no competition. Praise children for ‘their’ ideas Value the results, consider individuality Children's creativity develops as they go

along, and they often don’t have an end result/product in mind.

Best Practice Check List

What do you need to consider when promoting creativity in the setting?

Best Practice Check List

Encourage Role Play Wide variety of role play equipment and dressing up

clothes. Wide range of media Provide a balance of activities, not always painting! Consider the use of music See if children would like their work to be displayed. Allow time, space

Allow children to develop and explore their own ideas

Reflection

How well do you support children’s creativity? Do you tend to focus on the end product if there is

one? Are the children allowed to experiment with toys and

try out their imaginative ideas?

List two things that you can develop either personally or in the setting that will promote

creativity. Give these ago over the next two weeks, you can Facebook me to let me know how you get

on.

How have we done?
