It’s Purim In July At MDS!
A Message From
Morah Marsha
Who ever said, Time flies when you are hav-
ing fun, must have known about MDS Sum-
mer Camp 2013. It is unbelievable that one
whole session of camp is over. Good
news…we still have an entire session to go. There are many exciting
activities in store! We will be visiting the NewYork Hall of Science,
and we are happy to report that we were able to reschedule our trip to
Aquarium. Morah Ora’s song and puppet show is coming to entertain
our younger campers. Did I mention pajama day? Wait until you hear
how much fun we have planned for that day alone!
Our Purim in July Carnival was SO much fun. Our campers enjoyed
many different booths from Basketball Throws, to Pin the Hat on Ham-
an. The face painters were extremely busy and of course we can not for-
get the Bouncy House! Each division also enjoyed a costume fashion
show, where everyone had a chance to walk the Purim Runway and
show off their special costumes. A special thank to our awesome and
talented counselors who made the whole day run so smoothly!
Have a Shabbat Shalom!

P’rachim
This fourth week of camp has been so much fun! Bunk time this
week was extra exciting; we made Oobleck! (It is a mixture of
cornstarch and water). It was slimy, liquidy, yet hard at the same
time! Everyone had so much fun mushing their hands around in
the Oobleck.
We also had a lot of fun special activities. In baking, we made
banana bread, adding chocolate chips on top for a special treat.
Art was fun as always. One day we were painting, and another
ripping paper and sticking it onto the canvas!
In science we learned all about seeds. There were beans, apple
seeds, lentils and many more!
All of our experiences together added so much excitement! Can't
wait for next week!
Love,
Morah Stephanie and
Morah Hannah
D’vorim
This week flew by in Dvorim! We started off the week preparing for
Tuesday's holiday excitement by making hamantaschen in baking and a
bunk mural in art.
When Tuesday rolled around, the campers of Dvorim were nowhere to
be found! Instead there was a baker, a construction worker, Percy the
tank engine, Cinderella, a cat, a princess, a ballerina, a bear and Wonder
Woman! We had an awesome time at the Purim in July carnival with
our new friends. We bounced in a bouncy house, got our faces and
hands painted, played a variety of carnival games and even ended the
day with prizes and cotton candy!
On Wednesday we said goodbye to our friends Gaby Flitman and Mo-
rah Rachel and we hope to see them again soon!
We can't wait to see what's in store for the first full week of second ses-
sion!
Parparim
Wow, another week has flown by in Bunk Parparim! On Monday,
we had so much fun travelling to a far-off safari with Teacher Charles in
Kinderdance! We had to tip-toe over the jump-rope snake, balance ourselves
across a curvy road, and gallop away from a sleeping bear!!!!!
We also started our preparations for our Purim in July celebration!
We baked hamantashens and made a bunk mural to hang up for the carnival!
When Tuesday rolled around the kids in Bunk Parparim were all dressed up.
The morot could not even tell who was who!! We had a Minnie Mouse, a
cowboy, a cowgirl, another Minnie Mouse, a yellow M & M, a fairy, Tinker-
bell, a princess, and Spiderman! We had a blast at the carnival. We bounced
on the moon-bounce, played carnival games, and even had a costume run-
way show in the lobby!
On Wednesday, we had a fabulous birthday party for Ariella Zalta!
Mazal tov to Ariella and her family on her 3rd birthday!
We also said goodbye to three important people in Bunk Parparim this
week; our friend Noah Schwebel, Morah Rachel, and Morah Miriyam. We
will miss them all very much! We also welcomed a new Morah into our
bunk, Morah Rachel!
We ended off our week with a spectacular camp-wide Shabbos Party!
We loved singing Shabbos songs with Yoni and eating a delicious Shabbos
treat! Can’t wait to see what’s in store for next week and during the Second
Session of Camp MDS!
Shabbat Shalom,

- Gym is IN at MDS camp!
By Coach Leora Sulimanoff
We were so busy in gym this week. Our campers have become pros at our
warm ups of stretching, movement and running. This week, our older
campers took all that we've been learning about coordination, motor skills,
and listening to instructions and put it to the ultimate test: an obstacle
course!! The kids had a great time zig zagging through cones, hopping on
our spots and jumping into hoops and over hurdles, throwing footballs and
yarn balls into the target and climbing and crawling through huge squares,
rectangles and circles. (I think that was their favorite part!) They went a
few times, each time trying to increase their speed. Even some of the
counselors got in on the fun and put their speedy skills to the test.
We also learned all about Coach Leora’s favorite sport- BASKET-
BALL. We found out that we PASS the ball to our friends, that we
SHOOT the ball into the BASKET or HOOP and that we DRIBBLE the
ball to get there. We practiced dribbling, passing and shooting. We shot
baskets with bean bags into hula hoops and then shot basketballs into
hoops made just for our size.
Art With Morah Debbie Alma Woodsey Thomas, an abstract painter from Georgia,
Provided artistic inspiration for us this week in the art
room. We also enjoyed working on a range of projects
from key rings to picture frames.
Shabbat Shalom from Morah Debbie
Science With Morah Simona
This week in science we learned about plants!
First we looked at all different kinds of seeds. We
talked about how they spread and what they need
to grow. We put some lima beans and popcorn
kernels in baggies with wet paper towels on the
window to see if they will sprout. The children
are eagerly checking them to see when the baby
plant will come out. We also made grass heads,
by filling up a stocking with grass seed and soil.
Hopefully in a few days we will start to see grass
growing up through the top so our grass heads
can have hair!
Camp Is So Much Fun!
Can you believe the first half of camp is already done?
Time flies so fast when you're having so much fun.
In Swim Jim we practiced skills like using water barbells and more
Floating on our tummies and backs- we can do it till the count of four!!
In art we made a mural that we will hang up to show
In science we made grass heads that we will watch grow.
In baking we made banana bread that was so sweet
Baking hamantaschen In July just couldn't be beat.
The carnival was a hit there was so much to do
Bouncy castle, face paint, and bean bag toss too.
The colorful yarn hunt was a ball of fun for all
We tied our string together to see if it was tall.
In gym we played basketball, we learned to pass and shoot
We dribbled the ball and to our friends we did root.
We said goodbye to Morah Leat and some of our friends,
We welcomed Morah Michal and Joshi
making friends never ends!
Stay tuned till next week for what's in store
The Dagim are the best we can't wait for more!
Tziporim
Wow! can you believe half one is done?
It went by so fast and was so much fun.
For Purim in July we got to dress up this week.
We loved all your costumes, they were all so unique.
From superheroes, doctors, princesses, and even a pigeon from New York City.
We got to walk down the runway and model our costumes, we all looked so pretty.
We made some delicious chocolate chip hamantaschen in baking,
and some fun and silly picture frames in arts and crafts making.
We had an amazing carnival filled with fun, games, and face paint,
and an awesome moon bounce, there was not one complaint.
We then picked our prizes and got some cotton candy,
which topped off our day and made it super fun and dandy.
In gym we learned how to shoot, pass, and dribble a ball,
and how to react to a whistle when Coach Leora makes the call.
In science we learned about seeds and how they need water and sunlight,
we made seed collages, and planted our own seeds, and boy are they a cute sight.
In Kinderdance we got to choreographed a dance.
It involved twists, skips, pointing, monkeying, and even a prance.
A big thank you to Joshi and Tali, camp wont be the same without you here,
Enjoy the rest of your summer, we hope to see you next year.
Please rest up and get ready for half number two,
there are so many more fun and exciting things to do.
Shabbat Shalom!
Morot Karen, Sarah, and Mollie
The Malkot had a great time in camp this week!
Purim in July was a LOT of fun! Everyone came dressed up to camp.
To show off our costumes each girl had a turn to do the "cat walk" down the
runway!!!
We even ate hamantaschens that we made the day before in baking! It really
felt like Purim!!
We sure love to bake, and in camp MDS we get to make yummy treats! This
week we made, hamantaschens, chocolate chip cookies, banana cake, and
zebra cookies!! Delicious!!!
In science with Morah Simona this week the girls had a chance to plant grass
seeds. First we filled a stocking with some seeds, added dirt, and once it was
tied we dipped it in water so it could be moist. Once they grow every girl will
have a grass head to take home!!
In gym with Coach Leora this week we practiced dribbling basketballs, and
throwing and catching them as well!
We also had fun going through the obstacle cours-
es and seeing how fast we could complete it!
We cant wait for another fun filled week ahead!
Have a great weekend and Shabbat Shalom,
