National Volunteer Week 2020 is Monday 18 May – Sunday 24 May and the theme for this year is “Changing Communities. Changing Lives". With COVID -19 many of the parent helpers, who regularly listen to children read and support the teachers, are no longer allowed to work within the school. We want you to know that we miss you!! Your work at the beginning of the year was greatly appreciated and we look forward to the time when you will be able to resume your volunteering at the school. We receive updates regularly on what is allowed to occur in schools. We are hoping that more activities will be allowed soon, but at this stage all excursions and inter-school sports activities are not permitted. As many of you are already aware, we had a student hit by a car on Farnsworth Drive. As a result of this incident, the Onkaparinga Council have been very responsive to our requests and, we can expect to have school signs installed on both Farnsworth and Pimpala Road within 30 days. These signs will indicate that it is a school zone, as well as reducing the speed limit around school drop off and pick up times. We have had numerous conversations with traffic engineers over the years and it is great to hear that the current team are keen to work with us to make the entry and exits to the school much safer for all. As part of this process, various engineers have been observing the traffic flow after school at Prescott. One of the positives from my conversations with them was that, they informed me, most children are using the pedestrian refuge that has been constructed on Pimpala Road. Thank you for supporting your children in ensuring they follow the correct procedures if they are required to regularly cross over Pimpala Road. We have also been informed that there will be further changes in regards to the signage on the roads, and further consultation with residents in this regard. Thank you for your efforts in keeping the area safe for all students. This is also a reminder again re the Kiss and Drop Zones of the school. Every time you stop for an extended time in this area, you are impacting the flow of traffic into the school from Farnswoth Drive. We ask you to do a lap of the carpark, if your child is not waiting when you arrive, so that the Kiss and Drop Zone can work as it is intended. This will avoid a build of traffic at the roundabout and overflow into Farnsworth Drive. We live in a world where it is very easy to get caught up in everything being about ourselves and little thought for those around us. It is great when we can show others genuine care and support, and this year more than any other our society is being challenged to do this. It reminds me of the verse in the Bible that states " Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others."
