Thought for this week….by Rev. Canon Trevor Denley

In today’s Gospel from Luke, Jesus says, “Whoever is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and whoever is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much.” This could be understood to mean faithful stewards may be entrusted with even more. Another way of looking at that is if we cannot be trusted with something small, why would we ever be trusted in something more significant? Our faithfulness relies in remembering who God is as the creator and giver of all good gifts. We are recipients, by wonderful Grace, not entitled, to what we possess

Does this passage challenge you, it does me?

Here are a few thought s for Reflection:

Do you sometimes feel entitled to the things you have, or do you recognize that they are gifted to you?

Have you ever thought about writing a list of thankyous each day? It might sound childlike but it is quite grounding, and may bring the issues of this passage into perspective in our lives and how it can enhance our prayer life.

Page 3: stjohnsfishponds.files.wordpress.com · Web viewThose we are praying for….. Valerie & Richard Comer, Rev'd Father Robert Britton, Max Barton, Gerald, Lin Shepherd, Betty Hedges,

What are some of the pressures and stresses that make being a faithful steward difficult? How can God help you through those struggles in order that we might maintain a more faithful stewardship?

Do we feel that our use of time and talents reflect our relationship with God and the gifts that God has given us?

Pray about them this week, and see how God helps.Special notices and upcoming events for all…….

During that time over £3,000 has been raised for this great cause. Unfortunately it is no longer possible for Jan to continue to organise this so if anyone is interested in taking this on there is lots of information available on the MacMillan website https://coffee.macmillan.org.uk.

Christmas Fair. I know it is only September but plans are already underway for this year’s Christmas Fair. We are particularly looking for good second hand or new toys, so if you see anything in the shops that you might be willing to donate please start collecting now.
