GROWING IN THE WORD

SCRIPTURE READING Luke 15:11–32 SERMON A Father’s Irreplaceable Influence

GOING INTO THE WORLD

CLOSING PRAYER & THE LORD’S PRAYER SENDING BLESSING I Love You, Lord I love you, Lord And I lift my voice To worship you, O my soul, rejoice Take joy my King In what you hear May it be a sweet, sweet sound in your ear.

Scripture reading for next week: BEHOLD, THE KING IS COMING: The Truth of God’s Word Revelation 10:1–11

Luke 15:11-32 11 And he said, “There was a man who had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.’ And he di-vided his property between them. 13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reck-less living. 14 And when he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in that country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to one of the citi-zens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. 16 And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything. 17 “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.”’ 20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compas-sion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. 23 And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they be-gan to celebrate. 25 “Now his older son was in the field, and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 And he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. 27 And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has re-ceived him back safe and sound.’ 28 But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him, 29 but he answered his father, ‘Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours came, who has de-voured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fat-tened calf for him!’ 31 And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. 32 It was fit-ting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.’

FLOWERS FOR WORSHIP: Due to the increase in cost of flowers and shipping to florists, Country Squire has increased the price of flowers from $16.00 for each altar vase to $20.00 per vase. Beginning in May the cost for the altar vases will be $40.00. It has been some time since the cost of the flowers were increased and Country Squire has worked to keep the expense low for Trinity.

Burrito Riders The second quarter drive is in full swing! Will you help to supply Burritos Riders with the burritos they deliver to the homeless and hungry? During the last drive, we collect-ed 250 burritos. Let’s strive to surpass that number! Please pick up a kit from the Nar-thex, which includes the recipe, and place your burritos in the freezer by the end of June. If you need assistance with rolling the burritos, check out the Burrito Riders of Louisville Facebook page which contains a short descriptive video.

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes Is it June already? It sure is, and toys are the items to be collected for the month of June. Some ideas for TOYS to be packed into the shoeboxes are …. foam balls, finger puppets, yo-yos, slinkys, jump ropes, trucks, cars, boats, dolls, etc. Incidentally, we are still in need of stuffed animals for the boxes and encourage you to shop for stuffed animals for the children if you wish to do so. Thank you for your sup-port.

Eastern Area Community Ministries (EACM)

The donation barrel is in the Narthex. Please keep in mind toilet paper and laundry de-tergent are some supplies that are always needed at the pantry. Cash donations are also always appreciated as well as gift cards.

Update from Sew ‘n Sews . . . We will be offering an appreciation gift to all Trinity men on Sunday, June 20. Please come early to select an eyeglass holder made from a necktie! The neckties are from the collection of Vito Simoneschi, donated by Ghyll. Vito was a special friend to Sew ‘n Sews, visiting with us at meetings, help-ing with markets and praising our crafts. We are happy to honor his memory in this way. We appreciate the commitment, service, and support of all our congregation’s men, and wish a joyful day of celebration to all! “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its sea-son, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.”
