Please place a sack full of groceries in one of the collection boxes around the church. Convoy of Hope On Saturday, August 27, Cookeville will host a community outreach event called “Convoy of Hope.” This event will take place at the fairgrounds from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. giving our churches a great chance to work together to share the love of Jesus. Volunteers can serve in the following ways: greeting, bag- ging/carrying groceries, sizing and distributing shoes, prayer and evangelism, financial support, set up on Friday, feeding/caring for other workers, inviting community members to attend, clean up. All volunteers need to register at www.convoyofhope.org/Cookeville. OCC Collection Operation Christmas Child is col- lecting school supplies during the month of July. Please continue to bring in your Colgate toothpaste coupons. Place any of these items in designated boxes around the church or in your Sunday School class. It seems like just yesterday we were commissioning college students to serve across the world for the summer. Summer is quickly approaching its close. As much as students love summer, I am equally excited to have all of our college students back in Cookeville in 4 weeks! On August 21 st , we will be welcoming back all of our college students and welcoming a bunch of freshmen and transfer students to FBC. The arrival of college students in Cookeville presents us with great mission opportunies as the naons come to Cookeville. I want every person to know how you can be involved in our college ministry because as a church we have been posioned to have an enormous impact at Tennessee Tech and Volunteer State College. The first opportunity is August 18 th . This day is known as "Great Move-in Day" at Tech. This is the day that thousands of students will move into the dorms at TTU. We have the opportunity to provide a great ministry to the families and students of TTU as we help them move suitcases, TV's, and mini-fridges into their dorms. This is a fantasc connecon point because the first queson always asked is, "Why are you doing this?" Our answer is simple: "Jesus loves you and as a church we want to show that love to you." On the night of August 18 th from 7-10 pm, along with TN Tech BCM, the extension of our college ministry on campus, we will throw a Block Party for the students. Hundreds of students come to the BCM that night looking for a fun me and conversaon. We need people to help serve drinks and food at this event as well as talk with students. Beginning on the 21 st and every Sunday of the Fall and Spring semesters, as a church we feed our college students lunch during their small groups. This is a great opportunity for every single person to meet our college students and get involved in their lives. Karen Cox leads up this aspect of our college ministry. If you would like to provide a lunch either with your Sunday morning small group or another group of people, please contact her at (931) 261-6218 or [email protected]. Our students are so thankful for the way the church has loved on them in this way for the past 3 years. Lastly, we are looking for families to "adopt" college students. This does not mean they will come live with you. We will match your family up with 2 or 3 students of the same gender and will encourage you to spend me with them. You may want to have them over for dinner or out for ice cream and coffee, take them to see some of the awesome things Cookeville has to offer, and certainly to encourage them throughout the year with texts or notes. If you would like to minister to college students in this way, please email me at [email protected] or call the church office. These are three immediate ways that you can be involved in college ministry. More than that be a witness of the Gospel each day in Cookeville. When college is in session, 1 out of every 4 people in Cookeville is a college student. The opportunies are there. WAYS TO SERVE COLLEGE STUDENTS
