Dear Families

Corona Virus – Covid 19

I have been overwhelmed with the level of support I have received from families in our community. It has

been heart-warming to see a huge number of ‘likes’ on our Facebook group, as well as emails of support and

encouragement from parents. It makes this difficult time much more bearable when you have understanding

and compassionate people surrounding you. To my team – leadership team, office staff, teaching staff and

ES – Thank you for the outstanding work you continue to do in these very challenging times.

As you would be aware, on Monday your child took home a Seesaw QR code accompanied with a cover

letter stating that in the event of schools moving to remote learning we plan to continue teaching and learning

via Seesaw. If you did not receive this from your child, the cover letter was posted on Compass and if your

child was absent from school and does not have a code, it is essential that you contact your child’s teacher

via email as soon as possible to ensure continuity of learning.

The Education Council met last week and decided NAPLAN will not proceed in 2020. Their official statement

is available here:

http://www.educationcouncil.edu.au/site/DefaultSite/filesystem/documents/EC%20Communiques%20and%

20media%20releases/

Education%20Council%20Communique%20%20-%2020%20March%202020.pdf

Please see Compass Newsfeed for the latest information regarding the impacts of COVID-19. This will be our

avenue of communication as we progress through the school holidays and it’s important that all families are

informed. If you have any questions, please contact the school via email ([email protected])

or call on 57871232. This includes if you have experiencing problems with accessing the information on

Compass.

Practicing Gratitude

Staff at Wandong begin each meeting with an “Attitude of Gratitude”.

What have you been thankful for this past week? This is something you

could try around the dinner table each night. Take turns to share

something that you were grateful for during the day. It could be

something small or something big. But, what we do know is, it shifts our

thinking and changes our brains to look for positives in every situation.

Lunch Orders – Flexi Schools

Next term Kemps are moving to full implementation of online ordering. It is important for families who would

like the option of providing their child with a lunch order, that they are registered. It is super easy to navigate

and there is great support over the phone or online. Please visit https://www.flexischools.com.au/support if

you need assistance.

Congratulations

This week we celebrate the news that Ms Green will be welcoming a new addition to her family late this year.

I know the children in Ms Green’s class will enjoy sharing this journey with their teacher.

Outstanding Payments

We are currently finalising our Term 1 accounts and would appreciate it if you could please make payment for

any outstanding expenses. Thank you to all who have paid their parent payment for 2020. This money is

used to provide the best possible learning experiences and resources for your children. Please remember

you can pay in instalments, just contact Ros in the office to make arrangement. Essential Education items are

purchased by the school for children and it is expected that they are paid promptly.

Foundation in 2021?

ALL SIBLING ENROLMENTS SHOULD NOW BE IN AT THE OFFICE

As you would be aware, all schools now have a ‘zone’ in place. To ensure that we

are not accepting too many ‘out of zone’ enrolments, it is pertinent that all our

current families who have a sibling starting in 2021 have their enrolments in. If

you have not actioned this, please ensure that this is in at the office no later than

the end of this term.

PAFA 2020 Easter Raffle Thank you to all of our wonderful families who donated items for the Easter Raffle and bought raffle tickets. There will no doubt be some members of our school community who have sore bellies after indulging in their winnings next week! However, I know these prizes have always been a welcomed supply of gifts.

Back Car Park – Parent Duty of Care It has come to my attention that we have a number of children who are in the back car park well before 8:30am unsupervised. Please ensure children are adequately supervised before and after school.

Foundation Open Days - POSTPONED

To say that I’m a little bit devastated would be an understatement. I was excited to welcome our new families at our very first ‘Open Day’ Wednesday evening. At this stage we will be continuing the morning sessions in April and our evening session will be rescheduled when we know more. Please ensure you are keeping your contacts in the loop and we will continue to ensure our social media is kept up to date

Continuity of Learning We have provided a number of resources for families to access through the Compass newsfeed which includes fun everyday activities that can be done at home. When school starts back next term and we have been directed by the Department to move to remote learning it is super important that you have logged onto See-saw and you are familiar with this platform. Staff have given some great feedback on parent and student interactions already. If you are having trouble or need any assistance at all, please contact your child’s teacher on email. Through Compass, you have the ability to email any staff member including specialist teachers, support staff and leadership.

Be Safe and Enjoy Holidays Our children have begun their Term One break a little earlier than expected and I know how hard this juggling act might be for some families. Stay strong and reach out if you need support. I urge families to keep the list of contacts I sent home in hard copy on their fridge, as you never know when you might it. Over this next period of unknown, please keep children home and not out and about as directed by our Health Minister and have a great break. Kelly Morrow - Principal
