Attractions in Shanghai
Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund
Tai Chi on the Bund
The Bund is often referred to as "the museum of buildings", as many different styles
of European buildings can be found here. You can also see modern skyscrapers
just across the Huangpu River. That gives you a strong contrast between modern life
and the past. Visit at dawn for tai-chi performers or at dusk to see twilight settle
magically over Shanghai’s skyscrapers.
Shanghai Scenery Cruise
Cruising on the Huangpu River, visitors can experience the beauty of
Shanghai throughout the day.
Cruise ships vary in size, decoration and amenities, with the most
luxurious offering air-conditioning, conference rooms, banquet halls, bars
and televisions.
People’s Square
Located at the very heart of the city, People’s Square is a garden-type open
space which, prior to 1949, was part of the horse-racing course of Shanghai. It
is surrounded by buildings and facilities for administration, cultural activities,
transportation and commerce. Visit Shanghai Museum in People’s Square.
This renowned museum possesses a collection of 120,000 precious works of
art, including Chinese bronze, ceramics, painting and calligraphy.
Nanjing Road and Huai Hai Road
Shanghai’s principal retail centres are Nanjing Road and Huai Hai Road,
on the Puxi side of the river. The eastern section of Nanjing Road,
Shanghai’s premier thoroughfare, features Chinese department stores and
excellent opportunities for bargain hunters, while international designer
boutiques are prevalent further to the west.
Yuyuan Garden
A traditional Chinese Ming style private garden, originally built in 1559 but
ransacked and restored several times since then. Entry to the garden for
many exquisite Chinese pavilions, seemingly never-ending paths, and
sculpted gardens within.
Ohel Moishe Synagogue – Jewish Refugee Memorial
Built in 1927 by the Ashkenazi Jewish community of Shanghai, this
memorial commemorates Shanghai’s Jewish culture. The third floor
houses displays period photographs, a list of notable Shanghai Jews, and a
small bookstore.
Fabric Market
Shanghai’s Fabric Market features hundreds of stalls spread among four
buildings, selling fabric ranging from Chinese silk to cashmere at low
prices. Customised tailoring is available.
