Wagga Wagga hosted Under 13 State Championships and Development day - 4th to 7th July.

The development day was a great success with both teams learning a lot of new skills and improving

known skills. Big thank you for local players and coaches which assisted in the development day Kira

McBeath, Rhys McManus, Lachlan Kendall, Lachlan Coyle, Josh Taylor, Dylan Martin.

Wagga Wagga 1 Team started their carnival with a busy three game day. The girls first game was against

Dubbo, a hard fought match which resulting in a 1- nil win. Brooke Thompson-Crane and Lucy Angel

produced great play in the central midfield and defence. The winning goal was scored by Juliette Gamble

through some great aerial dribbling. The second game was played against Nepean this game involved a

large amount of attack but the girls could not capitalise on their chances. Holly Menzies and Lauren Joliffe

used great positional play to defend and support team mates in attack. The game ending in a nil all draw.

The last game on the first day was the girls only game on the turf. The girls found out how different turf

hockey is to grass hockey, as some attacking plays which worked on the grass did not work on the

turf. Jasmine Hutchinson, Claire Bousfield and Michaela Foster all continued to develop their

understanding of strikers. Chelsea McEwan was solid in defence with great clearing play. The girls came

away losing 1 nil to Grafton 2 in their third match of the day.

On Saturday the Girls had one game against Parramatta where wing halfs Abbey Bailey and Hayley

Hutchinson showed how far they have come over the season with good defending which then

produced nice attacking play penetrating the Parramatta Defence. Olivia Fairchild supported her team

mates in attack and defence. The girls won this game 1 nil with another goal to Juliette Gamble. The girls

came 3rd in their pool, being pushed out of 2nd due to goal difference.

The girls last game against North Shore 2 was the best game the girls played. Kalee Gibbons showed great

versatility in the midfield linking up with strikers and halves. All the girls put in their best efforts coming

away with a great 2 nil win to come 5th. Goal scorers for this game were Brooke Thompson-Crane and

Jasmine Hutchinson.

Wagga Wagga 1 took out the Play the Whistle Award participating in the true spirit of the game and

demonstrated excellent sportsmanship.

Wagga Wagga 2 team played in the fourth division coached by Carman Evans. The girls were led through

the carnival with great leadership through Maddison Baker and Shanarah Burrdett. The whole team was



very young in comparison to thier competition so the future looks bright for Wagga Juniors at Rep level.

Louise Baker, Ellie Tester, Paiton Morphett, Amalee Wilson and Sharney Alexander showed great

improvement in defence. Daisy Latimer in goals saved numerous shots and valiant under some very strong

attack. In attack Charlotte Wickson, Celeste McMahon, Jemma Knowles and Teagan Eastwood developed

in their positions and skills. Emily Longmore and Brianna Burrett linked well with team mates in different

areas of play.

The girls missed the mark with the competition however the improvement from game one was amazing.

As many of the girls have between two and three years still in under 13's there is great ability for the

future.

One behalf of both teams i would like to thank NSW hockey, all the officials particularly the locals and

volunteers from the clubs and board who made this possible

hockey would like to have squads picked for all teams before the end of the 2013 season to prepare for the

All umpires are required to wear the correct umpire uniform of with a fluro yellow shirt, jumper or vest.

The players on the field need to be able to identify the umpires quickly during the game. You don’t a have

a fluro shirt you say…. There will be some available to borrow in the pump shed…but remember if you

borrow it…then you must return it. Juniors…see the umpire coach and they can help you out.
