SOUTHPORTTRIP

28th – 30th August 2016

3 days from £224 (non-HASSRA Leeds members £424)Non-golfers cost £117 (Non-HASSRA Leeds members £234)

***** DEPOSIT £100 pp by 15th JANUARY 2016 *****Please only send £100 for non-golfers too

The price includes· 2 night’s dinner, bed and breakfast (sharing twin/double room)· Private function room for dinner each evening· Three rounds of golf: Southport & Ainsdale, Hesketh and Formby.· The prize fund

Southport & Ainsdale is a true championship course set amongst the dunes on the North Westcoastline and designed by James Braid.   S&A was founded in 1906, and the passing of so many years hasbrought about changes, but the traditional feel of a championship links has been retained. It remains a finalqualifying course for The Open Championship. The course is a magnificent test, especially with the sea breeze and profusion of heather and gorse combiningto provide a challenging and immensely enjoyable day.

Hesketh is the oldest golf club in Southport, established in 1885. The course is pre-dominantly links in nature. In addition to being a previous qualifying venue when The Open was played at nearby Royal Birkdale,Hesketh has hosted many other professional and amateur championships. The course presents a challenge toall standards of golfer. Whilst pre-dominantly a links course, changes over recent years have led to the coursenow having a slightly more diverse landscape for seaside golf.

Formby's links are set amongst coastal sand dunes and towering pines. The undulating fairways areplanted with traditional rye grasses and flat lies are rare. Add strategically placed pot bunkers and frequentchanges of wind strength and direction to the mix and the new visitor will quickly discover why Formby is sopopular with discerning golfers. Formby Golf Club founded in 1884 and has been sensitively modernised overthe years, to ensure it remains a challenging but enjoyable test of golf.

Quarry House WellbeingBHF pedometer challenge

For four weeks from 12th October 29 teams of ten in Quarry House, which included staff fromDWP, Dept of Health and Public Health England, donned their pedometers and took theBritish Heart Foundation pedometer company challenge under the banner of HASSRALeeds. This national challenge was not only to raise funds for the charity but to make peoplemore aware of the benefits of exercise. Senior Civil Servants to front line staff took up thechallenge and competition was fierce with staff doing allsorts of things to get in those extrasteps. Lunchtime walks became popular, to get some fresh(ish) air, and some teams evenhad walking meetings. Staff got their families involved by going out for long walks at theweekend and one member of staff reported her little girl told her she only wanted to go outfor a walk to get more steps on her thermometer! Wearing the pedometer has really madepeople think about how far they are walking during the day. Reports of one member of staffwalking to a post box three miles away from her home just shows how aware people havebecome about making sure they reach their daily goal of 10,000 steps. At the end of the fourweeks HASSRA Leeds hit our goal of circumnavigating Mars twice and walked further thanthe other businesses who took part in the contest. Ian Dyda came top of our individualchallenge walking a massive 446,133 steps and top of the team challenge was ‘Two LeftFeet’, walking 3178,593 steps collectively. HASSRA Leeds gave staff an added incentive bydonating prizes for the best motivating story or case study, best team name and they alsoarranged with our local leisure centrefor everyone who took part in thechallenge to receive a free three daypass. Lots of staff have said that thechallenge was great for team moraleand has helped them feel moreenergetic. Overall the staff managed toraise over £1000 and British HeartFoundation were so impressed theyinsisted on coming in to get some casestudies and photos of the staff who tookpart. Who thought counting steps wouldbe so interesting and with most peoplenow hooked, long may Quarry Housekeep walking!!!

Some of our competitors from Quarry HouseL- R – Andrew Allen, Stuart Card, Dawn Lennie (wellbeing lead), Ian Dyda, Paula Jarman,Elaine Craiggs.

BOOKING TERMS AND CONDITIONSHASSRA TRIPS AND EVENTS

The following terms and conditions will apply to all events to ensure that every member has a fair opportunity toparticipate in events. The terms and conditions should be read in conjunction with the relevant booking form.

1. Wherever possible events will be advertised with a closing date for applications that is at least 4 weeks from the datefirst advertised, including proposed events where expressions of interest are being requested.

2. Persons wishing to travel together should complete one application form per room, submit their applications together, and determine a lead person who will be responsible for forwarding payments due and act as the contact on behalf of thegroup via a signed disclaimer agreeing to these terms and conditions.

3. A booking will not be accepted or entered in a draw without the correct deposit and signed disclaimer.

4. Once the closing date is reached, the number of applicants wishing to travel will be determined. Where there aresufficient places for all applicants, then deposit cheques will be banked and places confirmed.

5. Members should be aware that once deposit cheques have been banked they are not returnable and travellers will beliable to pay full price of the trip (unless the place is subsequently filled). Full price means the undiscounted "nonmember" price. Where necessary, HASSRA (Leeds) will provide an invoice for the full price for insurance purposes buttravellers need to be aware that the cost of insurance, (if purchased), is non-refundable.

6. Travel operators will be asked to date insurance cover from the date on which they receive notification of the personstravelling. It is therefore essential to obtain adequate travel insurance before booking if you do not purchase theinsurance offered.

7. Single supplements. There will be no member discount on supplements for travellers wishing to secure a singleroom. Where members indicate on the application form that they are willing to share a room with someone of the samesex, the organiser will arrange for pairing. If an individual has indicated that they are willing to share, they will not have topay a single supplement even if no pair is available.

8. Where the number of applicants exceeds the places available, a random draw of application forms will determinethose successful in receiving a place, subject to Clause 8. Cheques accompanying these applications will then beprocessed. Remaining applications will continue to be drawn at random to determine the order of the reserve list.

9. The trip organiser will be granted up to two places on that trip without entry into the ballot. An organiser is the personwho arranges the trip on behalf of the HASSRA Events Committee, whether or not s/he is a member of the Committee.

10. Where expressions of interest have been sought for a proposed trip, if that trip is subsequently confirmed, applications received from those expressing interest prior to the closing date will be given priority to book before anyunfilled places on the trip are advertised. On these occasions, once the closing date is reached, remaining places will befilled on a first come first served basis.

11. Members who have been unsuccessful in a ballot for a trip may record this on their application for the next trip, to thesame destination, and will be given priority for available spaces.

12. Applications from solely non-member groups, i.e. not accompanying a full HASSRA member, wishing to participate inan event will be considered only in the event of places remaining after the closing date has passed.

13. The priority order will be: a) Organiser +1, b) Previously unsuccessful on similar trip (ballot if necessary), c) Priorregistered interest (ballot if necessary), d) Other Members, e) Non Member groups.

14. Non-members may apply to travel at the discounted rate on an event provided that they satisfy the criterion forassociate membership and send a completed application for membership together with the appropriate payment, on orbefore the closing date for the trip. Associate Membership will last for 12 months from the date of processing theapplication. The Committee reserves the right to determine specific criteria for prior membership on certain trips. Anysuch requirements will be notified in the advertisement. Participants are reminded to conduct themselves in anappropriate manner while attending HASSRA sponsored trips and events. Formal complaints may prejudice anindividual's eligibility for future trips.
