This poem is written by Loretta Keyes to describe her experience in our discipleship group.

This Is the Air I Breathe

Baring our souls to Searchers, we’re a wind-tossed few.

Sharing thoughts, we come weather-beaten or blue.

Daring minds, we lift our eyes to stormy points of view.

Pairing hearts for the week, a tempest ceases through.

Caring for others, the calmness creates friends so true.

Wearing another's shoes, the Spirit wafts them anew.

Airing in the Lord's breath, His “Sonshine" refreshes you.

SHELTER FOR HOMELESS FAMILIES

Located in Northridge the new 90-bed family shelter offers hope, shelter and safe, supportive housing to families who are homeless. The new facility includes private family bedrooms, a commercial kitchen, common dining room and living spaces, meeting rooms, computer education center, playground and garden – all geared toward helping families achieve a brighter future. This new resource enables the San Fernando Valley to realize a reduction of its homeless population, many of whom are neglected and underserved. Staff works with families to establish a plan for restoration and self-sufficiency, offering life skills programs and training on-site, as well as collaborating with other agencies and community resources.

Changing Lives One Plate at a Time

Groups from NUMC will start serving dinners at the Rescue Mission in May. See the missions display in the narthex for information on joining a group.

From the AARP Files "I have Series E savings bonds that are no longer earning interest. I haven't cashed them in because I don't want to pay the tax." AARP advises: You owe income taxes on the interest in the year your E bonds mature even if they're sitting in your safety deposit box. So rescue that dead money and reinvest it.

Many people base all of their life decisions on rational appraisals that are apparent to all. Not

so with intuitive thinkers like myself. My son and I were transitioning to a new church. So, I prayed

for a place where we could fully celebrate our love for Jesus and was steered to the Northridge

United Methodist Church website.

The Mission Statements caught my eye first, even more so than the beautiful photos of

members engaged in community-building activities. I felt a mix of both comfort and elation at the

possibility of being part of such a full church experience. Harry and I could enjoy worship services

awash in lovely melodies of choir music and bells, study the bible with educated people, and take

our pick of fun social activities for all ages.

And once I arrived at NUMC, I found a place full of caring people engaged in all that had been

advertised. Even the leaders are fully dedicated to the cause of spreading God's love through

positive action.

Thank you, God, for sending us to Northridge United Methodist Church! – Renee Bream

Welcome!

CHILDREN’S CHOIR IS STARTING BACK UP!

Sunday, May 7 at 11am in the Kendall Building. Come and meet our new Lead Sunday School

Teacher and Music Leader, Chelsea Obermeier.

5 REASONS FOR YOUR KIDS TO JOIN THE CHILDREN’S CHOIR

1. IT IS MUSIC & IT IS FUN! 2. CHILDREN’S CHOIR gives children an opportunity to serve GOD & the church, ministering to

others through music. 3. CHILDREN’S CHOIR gives kids an opportunity to take a leadership role in the service. It gives

them a sense of responsibility for the ministry of the church. 4. CHILDREN’S CHOIR provides opportunities to build Christian character. The qualities of

promptness, self-control, cooperation, and commitment are developed as they praise God. 5. CHILDREN’S CHOIR is part of the education process. When children sing holy and religious

songs filled with the message of Jesus, they remember it for a lifetime.
