Money Bag$By Barry Levitt – June 2015

A Message From Our President, Dave TuckerThe big news this month, in fact it’s the only news, is the 41st Annual Eagle Creek Folk Music Festival on Saturday June 13, and Sunday June 14, 2015. Who is it? The Central Indiana Folk Music and Mountain Dulcimer Society members and special guest musicians. What is it? The largest, longest running, free folk music event in Indiana. When is it? Instead of our usual monthly meeting on the second Sunday of the month, it’s the entire second weekend of June. We start at Noon and go until we can’t play anymore. Actually until 7 pm on Saturday and 6 pm on Sunday. Where is it? Eagle Creek Park Marina Stage, on Indianapolis’ west side.

Invite friends and family. The Folk Music Festival is a wonderful introduction to the members and music of the Society. Our very own Tull Glazener’s interest in mountain dulcimer was sparked at Eagle Creek decades ago. Pack a picnic basket. The long range forecast for both days is perfect picnic weather -- warm and sunny, with a light breeze blowing off the reservoir. Bring a camp chair or a blanket. Now, that’s the way to enjoy live music. Don’t forget your instrument. There will be plenty of opportunities throughout the weekend to participate in workshops and informal jam sessions.

We have a great lineup of performers at the 41st Annual Eagle Creek Folk Music Festival. Here are links to several of our special guest musicians: www.mollymccormack.com, www.ennisclareband.com, www.shinyandthespoon.com. The performances, workshops, and jam sessions all serve the Society’s mission of fostering a vibrant and participatory folk music scene in Indiana.

It takes a tremendous amount of volunteer work to put on the Folk Music Festival. Many thanks go to Cathy Platt for organizing the event once again. Also, many thanks to all of you who will contribute your time toward set up, Information Booth, workshops, and tear down. Moreover, thanks to all performers for sharing your musical gifts with Society members and attendees.

June is a big music month!

Eagle Creek Folk Festival, June 13 and 14, Information is available on our Yahoo site: volunteer lists, set lists, Big Band performers, gate passes, workshop and performance schedules. The gate passes are to be used ONLY by those who have volunteered to help with the festival or are performing on stage (Big Band, solo or groups). We need more volunteers and Big Band performers. Let me know if you can help or play with us.

The performer list is outstanding this year. Take a look at the schedule. You will want to spend both Saturday and Sunday hanging out and listening to the great line ups we have! Thanks to webmaster, Myrna Gray, the schedule is also available on our website. http://www.indianafolkmusic.org/

Look for performer lists and set lists for these two gigs on the Yahoo site shortly. Come play with us!

June 20, Speedway Library, 5633 W. 25th Street, Speedway. Set Leader: Dan Reneau. We set up at 6:30 pm and play at 7 pm. This is an annual event for us and one of our favorite gigs. It is always well attended and well received! We will be playing outside on their parking lot, weather permitting, and will be moved inside if it is raining. There will be a sound system provided by Steve Kessinger and Jason Vaughn.

June 27, Millers Senior Living Community, 225 West Harrison, Mooresville. Set Leader: Mike Raab. The setup is at 12:30 pm, the performance is at 1 pm. A new venue for us, it is across the parking lot from the Mooresville Library. We haven’t done a retirement community for awhile and we always have a great time when we do. They are “very excited” for us to come!
