The Vocational NurseOpportunitiesforvocationalnursesareparamountinlong-termcarefacilities,homehealthagencies,physicianoffices/clinics,andacutecareagencies.Thethree-semestercurriculumprovideseducationin nursing care and technical and manual skills in workingwithpatientsofallagegroups.Thevocationalnurseworksunderthedirectionoftheregisterednurseorphysician.

CertificateUponsuccessfulcompletionofthethree-semesterprogram,thestudentreceivesacertificateofcompletionfromShastaCollegeandisqualifiedtotaketheNCLEX-PNexaminationtobecomeaLicensed Vocational Nurse.Articulatedoptionsforcontinuingeducationforlicensed vocational nurses are available in the Associate DegreeNursingProgram(Registered Nurse).

Prerequisite RequirementsThefollowingShastaCollegecoursesorequivalentcoursesmustbecompletedwithagradeof“C”orbetterpriortoenrollingintheVocationalNursingProgram.QualifiedcandidatesmustbeaCertifiedNurseAssistant. General InformationTheapproximatecostoftheprogramis$1,810*andcoversthefollowingexpenses:physicalexamination/immunizationsandtests,backgroundcheck,drugscreening,textbooks,supplies,uniform,namebadge,shoes,stethoscope,bandage scissors, a watch with a second hand, CPRcertification,andduringthethirdsemesteroftheprogram,applicationfeestotaketheNCLEX-PN(feesarebasedonthecurrentfeeschedulefromtheBoardofVocationalNurseandPsychiatricTechnicianExaminers).
