“We are hoping A VintageAffaire will grow each year andbe a popular spring event forClaremore, with new or home-based vendors getting a chancefor some visibility,” says MorganWilliams, Rogers CountyHistorical Society’s membershipvice president. “This year, wehave some local vendors, such asthe Orange Owl, and other mer-chants coming in from Grove,Siloam Springs and Bartlesville.”

In exchange for a $40 (taxdeductible) donation to theBelvidere, vendors can get a 10-by-10 spot to sell their merchan-dise. “We take no commissionfrom sales,” says Williams.

Admittance to the event isfree, and guests can shop forantiques and collectibles, tourthe historic Victorian mansion,

“Not every small town has atreasure like the Belvidere rightin the heart of downtown. Thisis a great opportunity to participate in a worthwhile project, support local merchantsand take in a little history at thesame time,” she adds.

Last year’s event included achildren’s area. Plans at this timeare to add some make-and-takecraft projects for kids. “Thiswould be such a fun outing forgrandparents and grandkids,”says Williams. “Little girls lovethe tea room and looking aroundinside the mansion and giftshop.”

Boys will enjoy the old ele-vator from the Mason Hotel onthe grounds outdoors. “Littleboys, mine especially, just love tohide inside,” she says. “Withthree floors and 9,000 squarefeet to explore, the mansionalone makes an interesting daytrip. Visit our website for more information and our photogallery of before and after pictures.

Breast augmentation is a very common procedure in the practice of most plastic surgeons. If you are considering breastenhancement, it is important to understand the process you will go through before, during, and after surgery.

My personal approach begins with determining what breast sizethe patient has in mind. By reviewing the before and after photographs in my albums, or pictures the patient may havebrought in, I can begin to understand the desired result. We alsohave each patient place different size implants in their bra to seewhat look they find most attractive.

During the surgery I temporarily place “sizers” in the pocket I createunder each breast. These can be inflated to different sizes, and byviewing the patient in the upright position, I can more accuratelydetermine the correct size.

Another technique that I have found useful is using the Keller Funnel implant delivery device. A silicone gelimplant will slide through this bag into the incision and the pocket under the breast. This allows a quickerinsertion process through a smaller incision that is less traumatic to the implant and surrounding skin.

Will Rogers Blvd., which is awonderful development for own-er Leslie Cohen because historicdowntown Claremore has alwaysbeen one of her favorite places. That’s why she is happy toannounce the Pottery Cottage’sparticipation in Downtown FirstNight. Being held May 5 andcontinuing the first Saturday ofeach month through July, thisevent will feature different gamesat each participating shop, withprizes awarded to participants.

Downtown First Night kicksoff what Leslie promises to be a“very merry month of May” forPottery Cottage. Mother’s Day isMay 13, and Polish potterymakes a great gift for any motheron your list. “Whether they liketo cook and bake or just appreci-ate good quality,” says Leslie,“mothers love this pottery.” Inhonor of Mother’s Day, Leslie isoffering free shipping for thosewhose mothers live out of state.

“Having that family heritage isstill important to people – andthey are creating a tradition ofquality.”

These highly functional andattractive items have anotheradvantage: they are versatile.Whether you like all of yourplace settings to match exactly,or if you like a more mix-and-match approach, Polish potterycan help you create the table ofyour dreams. Leslie points to oneparticular customer, CynthiaTerhune of Claremore. Cynthiahad originally purchased a Polishpottery set on QVC. Shortlythereafter, she discovered Leslie’sshop, and because Leslie receivesher pottery from the same facto-ry as QVC, she was able to getCynthia a pattern that balancedwith the first one. Leslie relatesthat now Cynthia is purchasingsix different patterns. “Her tableis eclectic, and yet the settingscomplement each other,” saysLeslie. “The color scheme andoverall idea of the table are thesame, but each setting is unique– and that’s what makes it beautiful.”

Leslie points out that thereare also those who like to stickwith a strictly blue and white color scheme, with different or

matching patterns, and she feelsthese make lovely tables as well. The important thing is that eachperson is able to express herselfin her own unique way.

Sometimes people haveenjoyed their current Polish pot-tery pattern for a time, but areready for a change. For them,Leslie will be setting up a resalecorner in the shop, where peoplecan swap their Polish pottery fora different pattern. Also comingsoon: a website where customerscan purchase Pottery Cottageitems from the comfort of theirown homes.

Even after the website is upand running, Leslie hopes hershop will encourage visits to WillRogers Boulevard. “I’m still veryinvolved in the building up ofdowntown Claremore,” saysLeslie. “I’m always excited tohelp preserve the history of myhometown.”

The Pottery Cottage’s stunning variety of Polish pottery is an excellent gift idea for Mother’s Day.

FFeeling Out of Whack?

By Sheryl Sowell

Do you find yourself irritableand snapping at loved ones forno reason? Are you always tired?Do you have weight in your midsection that you can’t seemto get rid of? According to Dr.James Campbell of BA Med Spa& Weight Loss Center, hormonebalance is critical to a person’soverall health and wellbeing. Many people exhibit symptomsof imbalanced hormones –

plant-derived compounds thathave the same molecular structure as those made by thehuman body. The placing ofthese bio-identical hormone pel-lets under the skin supplementsyour body’s needed hormones. In addition to alleviating symp-toms of hormonal imbalance, including mood swings, hotflashes and more, BHRT helpsreduce one’s risk for breast

depression, irritability, lack ofenergy, unexplained weight gain, lack of focus and mental clarity, restless sleep, decrease in libido– yet do not understand whythey feel the way the do.

“BA Med Spa now offersbio-identical hormone replace-ment therapy (BHRT) utilizingthe SottoPelle pellet method,”explains Dr. Campbell. “Bio-identical hormones are natural,

cancer and Alzheimer’s disease, builds bone density and leanmuscle, and allows for greaterendurance for exercise.”

Both men and women losetestosterone as they get older, which is a major cause of thesehormonal symptoms. Manywomen are surprised to learnthat hormone decline beginsabout ten years before othersymptoms of perimenopause setin; therefore, BHRT can benefitwomen as young as in their 20s.“Hormone balancing can helprestore quality of life for menand women in a wide range ofages – whether you’re 25 or 75,”says Dr. Campbell. The pelletslast four to six months and produce no side effects. The in-office procedure only takesabout five minutes and is completely pain free.

If you’re experiencing any ofthe symptoms associated withhormonal imbalance, Dr.Campbell suggests calling BAMed Spa to schedule an appoint-ment to get tested and find outwhat hormones you need. “Youdon’t have to live with thesesymptoms. Depression, moodswings, lack of energy, loweredsexual drive – these can all nega-tively affect your life a great deal. Many patients feel they have got-ten their lives back with hor-mone replacement therapy. Itcan improve your quality of lifeby leaps and bounds.”

Dr. Campbell is a certifiedpelleter. He trained with Dr.Gino Tutera, who developed andrefined the SottoPelle systemand who is a widely recognizedleader in the field of bio-identical

hormone replacement. Dr. Tutera’s unique treatmentmethod is based on prescribingthe right kind of hormone (biologically identical), in thecorrect amounts (determinedthrough testing and properanalysis of the results), using theright delivery system (pellets).“Dr. Tutera has treated over30,000 people for hormone balancing,” adds Dr. Campbell.

Pelleting is not a new phenomenon – it was first introduced in 1935. “Pelleting is currently the primary way people achieve hormone balance throughout Europe and Australia,” explains Dr. Campbell. “Bio-identical hormones are superior to synthetic hormones because they are all-natural, have anti-inflammatory properties, and do not increase your risk of breast cancer.”

Thousands of men andwomen across the United Statesand Canada have used SottoPellehormone therapy to achieve anatural healthy balance of hormones. “This procedure can change your life,” says Dr.Campbell. Call (918) 872-9999or visit BA Med Spa & Weight Loss Center for more information.

GGive Mom the Giftof Beauty

By Sheryl Sowell

Are you searching for the perfectMother’s Day gift? Flowers andjewelry are always a lovely gesture, but they can be a littleon the ordinary side. If you wantto give your mom a unique giftshe will love, or even if you wantto treat yourself this Mother’sDay, call Advanced CosmeticMedicine about the gift ofBotox. According to Dr. MallorySpoor-Baker, Botox is one of thequickest, most popular treatments for improving yourappearance and giving you amore youthful look.

“Deep lines between thebetween the eyes cause you toappear tired or angry, even whenyour face is still. By injecting tinyamounts of Botox into a specificfacial muscle, only the targetedimpulse of that muscle will beblocked, causing a local relaxation and weakness. In thisway, the muscle is immobilized, thus preventing wrinkly expres-sions. Within three days, thatarea will be flatter and smoother, and you will look more relaxed,”says Dr. Spoor-Baker. Botox

consisting of only a few tinyinjections. Dr. Spoor-Baker willdetermine exactly where toadminister these injections toachieve the best results for you.No anesthesia is required, andthe entire procedure takesapproximately 10 minutes. Thereis no downtime afterward; youmay resume normal activityimmediately. Discomfort is minimal and brief – mostpatients compare the sensationto a bug bite.

You can expect to see resultswithin days after your treatment, and the appearance of the areabetween your brows may contin-ue to improve for up to a week.“Botox is a perfect solution toimprove your appearance, as it isfast and effective, with minimaldiscomfort and no downtime,”says Dr. Spoor-Baker.

“With Botox, people willnotice that you look morerelaxed. You will even feel morerelaxed. With repeat Botox treatments in the first year, thosepesky lines can be gone,” addsDr. Spoor-Baker.

treatments last from three to sixmonths.

An area of Botox typicallyincludes frown lines, foreheadlines and crow’s feet lines.Treating your frown lines, alone, will make you look fresher andmore relaxed.

“Botox is one of our mostpopular treatments, especiallyduring the spring and summer, when everyone has so manysocial gatherings such as graduations to attend,” says Dr. Spoor-Baker.

Millions of men and womenof all skin colors and ethnicitieshave realized the benefits ofbeing treated with Botox. Results are visible, but Botoxwill not radically change yourfacial appearance or make youlook as if you’ve “had workdone.” When administered by an experienced physician such as Dr. Spoor-Baker, you can still smile, frown, and look surprised without those linesbetween your brows.

iiBlock – “Robotic” Total Knee ReplacementBy Sheryl Sowell

Head of the class.Compassionate. Straightforwardand confident. Skillful. Thebest. All of these phrases havebeen used to describe Dr.Ronald LaButti by his patients, and with good reason. He hasproven to be devoted to hiscraft, helping thousands of peo-ple overcome disability and suf-fering associated with hip andknee pain. On April 3, 2012,Dr. LaButti made local historyby being Tulsa’s first orthopedicsurgeon to perform computer-assisted robotic total kneereplacement surgery using thePraxim Computer-AssistedNavigation System in conjunc-tion with the iBlock, a roboticautomated cutting block whichinterfaces with the computernavigation system. This is amajor advancement in the fieldof joint replacement surgery.Dr. LaButti has been using navi-gation since 1999 and was thefirst physician to bring naviga-tion to Oklahoma.

The brand-new technologyproduces a 3-D image of theknee, which allows for superiorsurgical accuracy and alignment. The iBlock and NanoBlock

my patients,” says Dr. LaButti.“When compared to more tradi-tional forms of navigation, theiBlock cutting guide provides asignificant advantage not onlyfor the surgeon, but for thepatient as well. When a joint isreplaced, even a miniscule mis-alignment between the implantand the bones can harm jointperformance and longevity. Thisinnovative technique allows forprecise measurements madedynamically in real time.”

Most conventional totalknee replacements require

cutting guides, part of thePraxim System, offer real-timevirtual planning technology followed by automated placement of the cutting guide, which allows the surgeon tomake more precise bone cuts. This creates optimal alignmentbetween the knee implant andsurrounding bones. The auto-mated, computer-assisted naviga-tion system which Dr. LaButtiused is only the fifth of its kindin the entire country.

“I am very excited to offerthis extraordinary technology to

surgeons to temporarily drive arod into the bones to serve as ananchor for the cutting devices. The Praxim System eliminatesthe need for the rod, reducingthe risk of formation of poten-tially dangerous emboli to thebrain. Another benefit is thatpatients using the Praxim sys-tem do not need additional MRIor CT scans, minimizing expo-sure to radiation, as well asreducing time and costs.

Dr. LaButti is very pleasedto offer this technology to hispatients, as their wellbeing and

success is his ultimate goal. “Iam extremely proud to beTulsa’s first orthopedic surgeonto offer patients access to themost advanced technology in thefield of joint replacement,” saysDr. LaButti. “It’s an amazingsystem that is highly accurate, creating a more precise alignment and fit that will feelbetter and last longer. This isimportant news, especially nowthat baby boomers are gettingjoint replacements at evenyounger ages.”

There are only five iBlockunits in the United States, andDr. LaButti is the only orthopedic surgeon in northeastOklahoma trained to use thistechnology. If you have kneepain or have been told you needa knee replacement, you owe itto yourself to schedule a person-al consultation with Dr. LaButti.
