VISION OF THE DISCIPLINE

•Khulna University is the first public University in the south-western region ofBangladesh established in 1987.

•Academic activities of the University commenced in 1991 with four disciplines.

•Urban and Rural Planning is one of the four pioneeringdisciplines of this University that took its first intake in 1991.

•The undergraduate and graduate degree programmes of the Discipline aimto create planners with comprehensive knowledge in sectoral and spatialp p g pplanning to shape, manage, direct and control development at local, regionaland national levels.

•This is a multidisciplinary Discipline to produce skilled planners for the countryimbued with the most up-to-date and modern planning techniques.

Course AssessmentEach course, irrespective of the credit hours attributed to the course, graded in a scale of4. Minimum credit hours for BURP is 160 and for MURP is 120.

Function of the Lab: Analysis, Classification andinterpretation of Images and modeling.

Instrument: 45 Computers having the brand Intel Pentium 4processor.

Software: Erdas Imagine 8.4, Ilwis, Adobe Photoshop

Major Success: Preparation of Land use map of Khulna city,Flood damage estimation of a municipality, Urban growthtrend modeling of Khulna city .

Workshop: Three Days workshop arranged with thecollaboration of ESRIcollaboration of ESRI

Future Plan: Extending the lab with new 35 computers.

Engineering Survey Lab

Function of the Lab: Collecting physical feature data.

Future Plan: Installing a total station.

•Both in BURP and MURP a project/dissertation is required tocomplete the programmecomplete the programme.

•The Discipline is also resourceful in reference facilities. Its seminarlibrary has a collection of about 3000 local and international booksand journalsand journals.

•To arrange national and international seminar and conferencethe discipline has a conference room with two wide screenmultimedia projectormultimedia projector.
