The Competition Committee has been empowered to assess all incidents the President, Technical

Director or any other UMSS official deems necessary. Any incident that is turned over to the Competition

Committee will result in a warning, or a fine and/or suspension.

SPIRIT OF THE RULE

Although every effort has been directed towards complete, understandable, and correct rules, UMSS

cannot possibly anticipate every situation, circumstance, or interpretation. With this in mind, we must

refer to the Spirit of the Rule. Spirit of the Rule means, very simply, the intent of every rule and

classification. Additional adjustments, alterations, modifications, and/or replacements not covered by

written rules should not be assumed to be legal under the Spirit of the Rule. Spirit of the Rule will be the

final criteria by which rules will be interpreted and enforced.

RULE BOOK DISCLAIMER

The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing

events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the

condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants agree to comply with these

rules. No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from publication of or compliance with

these rules and/or regulations. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no

way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator, or official.

The UMSS President/CDO shall be empowered to permit minor deviation from any of the specifications

herein or impose any further restrictions that in his opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable

requirements. No express or implied warranty of safety shall result from such alteration of

specifications. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the UMSS officials.

Their decision is final.

DRIVER SPECIFICATION

License

Any driver competing in a UMSS event must have a current annual UMSS sprint car drivers' license. The

cost of an annual license is $130.00 with $100,000 excess insurance or $50.00 without insurance.

Age Restriction

Drivers must be at least 15 years old to run in either sprint division; however, each track decides what

the age limit will be. Please check with them to determine if you will be legal to drive at their track.

Rookies

For their first three race nights, all rookies will start each race from the back. In addition, for the entire

first season, their car must display a rookie marker obtained from the UMSS.

Transponders

Transponders are mandatory.

Radios

Raceiver radios are mandatory.

Drivers' Meeting

All drivers must attend the drivers' meeting. Any foreseeable changes to the program or format will be

announced at the drivers' meeting, and those announced changes take precedence over the written rules

for that event.

CONDUCT & SPORTSMANSHIP Conduct We are guests at each facility we race at. Drivers are reminded to conduct themselves accordingly.

Drugs and Alcohol

The use of illegal drugs is prohibited. The consumption of alcoholic beverages before the entire racing

program has been completed is prohibited. Track rules vary and may prohibit alcohol beverage

consumption entirely.

Abusive Behavior

ANY VERBAL OR OTHER ABUSE OF A UMSS OFFICIAL WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION WITH

NO PAY OR POINTS FOR THE NIGHT. THIS RULE IS FOR THE DRIVER, OWNER, CREW MEMBERS

AND FAMILY. A SECOND OCCURRENCE DURING THE SEASON WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION

FOR THE NIGHT, A FINE AND THE TEAM BEING DISQUALIFIED FOR AT LEAST AN ADDITIONAL

NIGHT.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct

While UMSS understands that auto racing is a highly emotional sport, it will not tolerate public displays of

poor sportsmanship. Anyone who destroys UMSS or race track property, abuses or threatens UMSS

officials, and/or enters the scoring tower to debate a scoring decision is subjecting themselves to either/or

disqualification or forfeiture of earnings for that event, suspension, banishment from the premises and a

fine.

Fighting, going into another competitor's pit to argue or damage their equipment, rough driving, etc. by

any driver, owner, or crew member may result in a fine, your sprint car being disqualified for the

event, and the forfeiture of all prize money and/or points. If you are in someone else's pit during a

confrontation, you are trespassing and will be considered the aggressor.

Drivers and owners are responsible for the actions of their crews.

Drivers and owners can be disqualified at any time by the UMSS Competition Committee after

consultation with the UMSS President and Technical Director. Teams will conduct themselves as

professionals.

Decals

All cars must display the official decals of UMSS sponsors. Cars must display decals on the outside of both

of the side panels of the top wing or on the body of the car.

CAR & DRIVER SAFETY RESTRICTIONS

ON TRACK INCIDENT If you are involved in an on-track incident, DO NOT EXIT YOUR SPRINT CAR UNLESS IT IS ON FIRE OR

YOU ARE INSTRUCTED TO DO SO BY AN OFFICIAL. Any driver that exits their car after it has

been pushed onto the track for reasons other than the above will not be allowed to continue in

that race and will be scored in the appropriate spot for points and pay.

Mandatory Equipment: 1. Fuel Bladder

2. Headrest

3. Right side safety net or right side head rest

4. Quick Release Steering Wheel

5. Racing approved five (5) point seat belt restraints that are no more than two (2) years old. If

seat belts are purchased after the season, but before January 1, a receipt will be required.

6. Full coverage racing helmet (Snell rated SA2000, SA2005) meeting acceptable industry standards required.

7. A minimum two (2) layer approved fire suit, shoes, stocking, underwear and hood meeting

acceptable industry standards required. Nomex Gloves.

Unsafe Cars

Any car thought to be unsafe by officials will not be allowed to race.

4-Wheelers

In Pits: All 4-wheelers, gators, etc. should either be in your pit stall or behind your car at all times. No

running around the pits.

During Races: All teams that have 4-wheelers, gators, etc. will be asked to push off their own sprint car

prior to the start of each race and after red flag periods. No 4-wheelers, gators, etc. will be allowed on the

track at any other time. The pit official will designate an area for 4-wheelers, gators, etc. to park during

the races. Note: No 4-wheelers, gators, etc. will be allowed behind their sprint car until a red flag situation

turns into a yellow and the push-off process begins.

Some tracks may have special requirements involving 4-wheelers, gators, etc. If there are any,

competitors will be informed during the pit meeting regarding any special restrictions that may be in

place at a certain track.

ORDER OF EVENTS

Packing

It is the responsibility of all cars to participate equally in track packing. Failure to do so may result in a

penalty such as having to start tail-end of all races that night.

Hot Laps No sprint car will be allowed to hot lap while push trucks, officials, or safety crews are on the track.

When you are pushed off for hot laps, you must wait until the track is clear and the green is shown before

hot lapping. Do not try to hot lap under the yellow! If you feel the need to check out your car on the

track, it is recommended you lay back from the pace car and once the track is clear, an official may signal

you to catch the pace car to form the starting line. This is your opportunity to safely check the track.

This is a critical safety issue! UMSS officials may penalize you by putting you to the tail of the event or

black flagging you for hot lapping under the yellow. Officials will be located in the tower, on the track, in

push trucks, and in safety vehicles.

There is absolutely no reason for you to endanger the lives or well being of officials or track workers who

are there to help you.

One Push-off Per Race You are allowed only one push-off prior to the start or restart of any race. If you require a second push-

off, you will go to the tail unless a second-push off was necessary due to safety concerns on the part of

track or series officials.

Time Limits

Each race will have a 1-minute per lap rule (e.g., a 20 lap race must be completed within 20 minutes).

This rule will be enforced within reason.

Push-Off Lane

All cars must be in the designated push-off lane or being pushed towards it when the first car is pushed

off to start any event. Cars not in the push-off lane or at least heading to it will be put to the rear of the

field.

RACE PROCEDURES UMSS WINGED SPRINTS—(32 Cars or Less)

Round 1 -- ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES (sometimes referred to as HEAT races)

1. ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES will be held at all events.

2. Cars: Each race will have a maximum of 8 cars.

3. Number of races: The car count at the close of the drawing for ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES will determine the number of races to be run (8 or less cars = 1 race, 9-16 cars = 2 races, 17-24 cars = 3 races, 25-32 cars = 4 races).

4. Race Distance: The length of each race will be determined by the number of cars in each ULTIMATE

SPRINT RACE; one lap per car but not less than 6 laps (6 cars or less=6 laps, 7 cars=7 laps, 8 cars=8

laps).

5. Lineup: Each competitor will draw for starting positions. As each number is drawn for a car, that

number will be posted and this procedure will be repeated until a number has been drawn for

each car that wishes to compete. The lowest number goes to the pole of the first ULTIMATE

SPRINT RACE; the next lowest drawn number goes to the pole of the second ULTIMATE SPRINT

RACE, and so on. Once the pole positions in each race have been filled, the next lowest number

goes to the outside front row of the first ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE, and so on. If there are an

uneven number of cars to equally distribute between races, the last cars will be placed at the back

of the lowest numbered races. Any cars not represented at the drawing shall be placed at the rear

of a race.

6. Transfer to CHALLENGE RACES: All participants in each ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE will transfer to a

CHALLENGE RACE; however, the final two finishers do not qualify for the inversion. Example: 7 car

ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE, 6th and 7th place do not make the inversion for the CHALLENGE RACE,

but 1st through 5th place do.

7. Points: Points will be awarded based on the UMSS point chart, and will be used to line up the

MAIN. The Point Chart provides a total point value based on starting position and finishing

position. Points awarded will be impacted by positions lost (-8.5 point/position lost) and gained

(+5 points/position gained), and finishing position. See UMSS Point Chart shown on page 8.

Round 2 -- CHALLENGE RACES

1. CHALLENGE RACES will be held at all events with total car count of 32 or less.

2. Cars: Each race will have a maximum of 16 cars.

3. Number of Races: There will be two CHALLENGE RACES at each event.

4. Race Distance: The length of each race will be determined by the number of cars in each

CHALLENGE RACE, one lap per car but not less than 8 laps or more than 12 laps (8 cars or less=8

laps, 9 cars = 9 laps, 10 cars = 10 laps, 11 cars = 11 laps, and 12-16 cars = 12 laps).

5. Inversion: CHALLENGE RACE starting positions will be determined by finishing positions in each

ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE. Total car count and number of ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES will determine

the number of cars that will not make the invert for each CHALLENGE RACE. The last two finishing

positions from each ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE do not make the invert and will line up at the back of

the CHALLENGE RACES.

Example: 30 total cars at an event results in 15 cars per CHALLENGE RACE; there were four

ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES so the last two finishers from those 4 races (total of 8 cars) are not

included in the invert; 30 total cars less the 8 that will tag the rear determines total invert of 22 (11

cars per CHALLENGE RACE).

6. Lineup: CHALLENGE RACES will be filled from the last inverted position moving forward, with

highest finishers from each ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE placed at the last available inverted position in

the CHALLENGE RACES.

Example: Using the same 30 car event scenario, ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE 1 winner will start 11th

in the first CHALLENGE RACE, ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE 2 winner lines up 11th to start CHALLENGE

RACE 2, ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE 3 winner lines up 10th in CHALLENGE RACE 1, and so on. Cars

finishing in the last two positions in their ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE will fill the rear of each

CHALLENGE RACE behind the inversion.

7. Points: Points will be awarded based on the UMSS Point Chart. CHALLENGE RACE points will be

added to the points earned in the ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE, and the combined total will be used for

the MAIN event lineup. The Point Chart provides a total point value based on starting position, and

finishing position. Points awarded will be impacted by positions lost (-8.5 points/position lost) and

gained (+5 points/position gained), and finishing position. See UMSS Point Chart on page 8.

Round 3 -- MAIN EVENT (sometimes referred to as the A-MAIN or FEATURE race)

1. The MAIN EVENT will be the final race at each event.

2. Cars: Each race will have a maximum of 20 cars. The only exception is promoter’s choice to

add additional cars up to a number the track can safely accommodate.

3. Race Distance: Each race will be at least 20 laps.

4. Inversion: The top 4 drivers in passing and finishing points following the double round of

qualifying races will draw a pill (1-4) to determine their feature race starting positions. If there

is an autograph session, the draw will take place at that session. The remaining drivers from 5 on

back will line up straight up according to the points they earned.

5. Lineup: Starting positions for the race will be determined by the total points earned in the

ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE and the CHALLENGE RACE, and the inversion. All rows behind the

inversion will line up highest to lowest in points.

6. Tie Breakers: (Positions 1-19): When filling the MAIN, cars may have the same point total. If the tie

is for positions 1-19 in the starting lineup, the tie will be broken in the following manner. If both

cars were in the same CHALLENGE RACE, the car with the highest finishing position in that race will

be awarded the higher starting position in the MAIN. If the cars were not in the same CHALLENGE

RACE, the higher starting position will go to the car that ran in the first CHALLENGE RACE.

7. Tie Breakers (Position 20): When filling the MAIN, cars may have the same point total. If the tie is for 20th position, only one car will start the MAIN unless the track promoter opts to add an extra car(s). If both cars were in the same CHALLENGE RACE, the car with the highest finishing position in that race will be awarded the 20th starting position in the MAIN. If the cars were not in the same CHALLENGE RACE, then the car with the highest point total for the current UMSS season will be awarded the 20th starting position.

UMSS Point Chart

RACE PROCEDURES UMSS WINGED SPRINTS—(33 Cars or More) Round 1 -- ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES (sometimes referred to as HEAT races)

1. ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES will be held at all events.

2. Cars: Each race will have a maximum of 10 cars.

3. Number of Races: The car count at the close of the drawing for ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES will

determine the number of races to be run (33-40 cars=4 races, 41-50 cars=5 races, 51-60 cars=6

races).

4. Race Distance: The length of each race will be determined by the number of cars in each

ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE; one lap per car (8cars = 8 laps, 9 cars = 9 laps, 10 cars = 10 laps).

5. Lineup: Each competitor will draw for starting positions. As a number is drawn for a car, that

number will be posted and this procedure will be repeated until a number has been drawn for each

car that wishes to compete. The lowest number goes to the pole of the first ULTIMATE SPRINT

RACE; the next lowest drawn number goes to the pole of the second race, and so on. Once the pole

position in each race is filled, the next lowest number goes to the outside front row of the first race,

and so on. If there are an uneven number of cars to equally distribute between races, the last cars

will be placed at the back of the lowest numbered races. Any cars not represented at the drawing

shall be placed at the rear of a race.

6. Transfer to MAINS: All participants in each ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE will transfer to either the A-

MAIN or a B-MAIN. The number of ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES will determine the number of cars to

transfer directly to the A-MAIN from each race (4 races = top 4 cars transfer to A; 5 races = top 2

cars; 6 races = top 2 cars). Cars finishing behind those that transfer to the A-MAIN will run a B-

MAIN.

Round 2 -- B MAIN(S) 1. B MAINS will be held at all events with total car count of 33 or more.

2. Cars: Each race will have a maximum of 20 cars.

3. Number of Races: The total car count for the event will determine the number of races to be run.

A single B MAIN will be run when 20 or less cars qualify for the B-MAIN. Two B-MAINS will be

run when more than 20 cars qualify for a B-MAIN.

4. Race distance: The length of each race will be determined by the number of cars in each B MAIN;

one lap per car up to a maximum of 15 laps. (10 cars = 10 laps, 15 cars = 15 laps, 16-20 cars = 15

laps).

5. Lineup: B MAIN starting positions will be determined by finishing positions in each ULTIMATE

SPRINT RACE. The highest place finisher that did not transfer to the A-MAIN from the first

ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE will start on the pole of the B MAIN, the highest non-transfer from the

second ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE starts outside front row, and so on. If there are two B MAINS,

positions will be filled from front to back using the same method, but cars will be placed alternating

between B MAIN 1 and B MAIN 2. If there are an odd number of cars, the last positions will be

placed at the back of the lowest numbered races.

6. Transfer to A MAIN: For events with a single B MAIN, the top (4) finishers transfer to the back of the A MAIN. Events with 2 B MAINS and 5 ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES, the top (5) from each B MAIN transfer to the A-MAIN. Events with 2 B MAINS and 6 ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES, the top 4 from each B MAIN transfer to the A-MAIN.

Round 3 – A-MAIN EVENT (sometimes referred to as the FEATURE race)

1. The A MAIN will be the final race at each event.

2. Cars: Each race will have a maximum of 20 cars. The only exception is promoter’s choice to

add additional cars up to a number the track can safely accommodate.

3. Race Distance: Each race will be at least 20 laps.

4. Lineup: Starting positions will be filled first with the highest finishing transfers from each

ULTIMATE SPRINT RACE, starting with the lowest numbered race. The highest place transfers

from the B MAIN(S) will fill the field behind those cars that transferred from their ULTIMATE

SPRINT RACE.

RACE PROCEDURES UMSS TRADITIONAL SPRINTS

The UMSS Traditional Sprint Car Series (TSCS) runs its events using a standard heat and feature race

format. The standard race format for the TSCS sprints include 10-lap heat races (number of heats

determined by car count) and a 25-lap feature race. The starting lineups for heat races are determined by

a random draw for starting positions with rookie competitors starting in the rear of the field for their first

three events (or longer if deemed necessary by UMSS officials). Passing points utilizing the standard

UMSS passing point chart found in the UMSS General Rules and Race Procedures will be used for the heat

races in order to determine the starting lineup for the feature event. Again, rookie drivers who are

required to start tail end will start in the rear of the feature. The high-point driver following the heat

races will pull a pill for the feature race invert. The invert pill may be anywhere from 0-8 based on car

count.

Changes in Race Lineups - Start/Restart Line-up Corrections

Changes in event lineups will be handled in this manner:

1) Prior to initial green flag: A) Lineup: Cars will be criss-crossed from open position on back. B) Passing/Finishing Point Scoring: Cars will be scored from the revised line-up positions, to accurately adjust passing point calculations.

2) After initial green flag:

A) Lineup: Cars will be criss-crossed from open position on back

B) Passing/Finishing Point Scoring: No passing point adjustments will be made for subsequent changes in starting positions for complete restarts.

If a driver elects to start at the tail of the field, that driver should report their choice to a UMSS official prior to the start of the race so a proper lineup can be determined ahead of time.

Alternates

Alternates will be allowed in for the A MAIN only. If someone fails to get started for the A-MAIN, the rows

would move up to fill the vacancy and the alternate would start on the last row, either inside or outside,

depending on where the scratched car was to start. The scratched car will not receive MAIN EVENT points

or money, actually swapping B MAIN points with the alternate if a B-MAIN has been run. If no B- Main is

run, then the scratched car will receive show points and tow money only. Once the initial green flag is

waved, even if a lap is not completed, the field will be deemed to be complete and no alternate will be

added to replace damaged cars.

Starts

When the field gets the one-lap-to-go signal passing the flag stand, the pace will be set for the start of the

race. No throttle-pumping, pulling out of line or brake-checking will be allowed after this point. The

leaders will bring the field to a designated spot (cone and white line) exiting the fourth turn on the track

at a moderate pace side-by-side with the rest of the field nose-to-tail. The pole position car sets the pace

and starts the race at the designated point (see below). If the pole car is setting too slow of a pace, the

driver will be notified on the Raceiver radio to pick up the pace, or the start will be called back, and pole

sitter will be charged with a jump start and penalty. Failure to pick up or maintain a proper pace could

result in a penalty if officials deem the pace is unsafe and warnings to maintain a proper pace are

ignored.

Side-By-Side Starts

The procedures for side-by-side initial starts and complete restarts are clarified below in order to be clear on how UMSS officials want to see races start.

1) Initial race starts, and complete restarts, will be done in rows of two.

2) The pole car (inside row 1) sets the pace. Pace should be consistently maintained down the back straight and through turns 3 & 4, until the green flag and/or green light is displayed.

3) The pole car shall allow sufficient room for the outside row alongside the pole car. A consistent line through turns 3 & 4 shall be maintained by the pole car on the bottom half of the track so as to allow plenty of room for the outside row of cars in order to facilitate a safe start.

a) Pole car not leaving sufficient room for the outside row, and/or not holding a consistent line through turns 3 & 4, will be considered a jump start, and will be penalized.

b) Outside row should be side-by-side with inside row.

4) Rows 2 through the end of the field should follow front row cars nose-to-tail.

5) Outside front row car shall not enter the start “Box” prior to the pole car.

a) The start “Box” is defined by two cones placed at the exit of turn 4.

b) The first cone is the beginning/entrance of the “Box”, and the second cone is the end/exit of the “Box.”

6) Pole car is allowed to start at any time once the front tires enter the “Box”, but before the whole car leaves the box.

Jumping Starts and Restarts

Initial start will be green flagged at the box in the fourth turn. On the race's initial start, if the front row

can't work together and get an even start, one or both offenders will be penalized. If a car further back

gets out of the line (not side-by-side and/or nose-to-tail) as the front row accelerates, it will be

considered a jump. No second chances! First offense, the car will be moved back two rows. Second

offense on the same car in the same race, the car will be moved to the back row. Third offense on the

same car in the same race, the car will be black-flagged and not allowed to compete in that race.

During a single file restart, the lead car must start at the fourth turn cone or chalk line. NOT BEFORE!

Starting before the cone or chalk line in the fourth corner will result in a two position penalty. When

there is a cone on the front stretch on a restart, no passing will be allowed before the cone. If you pass

before the cone, run into the cone, or drive under the cone, a two position penalty will be assessed.

Scoring

The entire field normally has to complete a lap before a single file restart occurs. If, after three (3)

unsuccessful attempts to start a race double file, a single file start will be used. When a yellow or red flag

is waved, scoring terminates and the restart lineup will be based on the last lap the entire field

completed. Cars involved in an incident will be put to the rear of the field. UMSS uses Raceiver radios and

teams are expected to use them for directions regarding positioning from the tower. A penalty may be

issued for failure to use a radio.

Lining up for Single File Restarts

When the yellow flag is waved, pull up to the car directly in front of you, whether it is lapped or not and

form a single file line, nose-to-tail. Officials will correct the lineup when they receive it from the official

scorers. Drivers who fail to get into single file order or do not go to an assigned spot when told to do so

by officials will be sent to tail of the field or disqualified. Lapped cars will go to the tail of the field.

Two Yellow (Spin) Rule

Any driver who causes two yellows in any race (unassisted) will disqualify himself or herself from the

remainder of that particular race. The car will be brought to the pit area and not restarted. An “Assisted”

yellow is any incident in which more than one car needs to be re-pushed, or any single car which spun due

to obvious contact from another car. Additionally, no car can be involved in any more than three race

stopping incidents of any combination, assisted or unassisted, and be restarted in any one race.

No Repairs on Track

During a race, a car in competition may not be worked on or repaired by any driver or crew member.

UMSS officials can and will inspect a race car for safety issues and decide if a car should go to the

designated work area or the pits.

Flat Tires

If you experience a left front flat, you will be allowed to continue racing. Any car with a flat tire except

the left front will be handled as follows:

• ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES & CHALLENGE RACES – Black-flagged.

• MAIN EVENTS - 2 laps to change tire once lineup has been set.

Work Area

During the MAIN EVENT only, once a car gets to the specified or designated work area, that car will be

granted 2 laps, after cars are in their correct starting order to get their car race-ready. However, the

work area will be closed at the race director's discretion in situations involving curfew, time, weather,

etc. The work must be completed by the end of the two (2) lap designation period AND appear safe for

restarting in the opinion of UMSS work area officials.

Incomplete Race

In an event where the feature race can not be completed due to weather or other reasons, the payoff will be

paid based on the finishing order of the last completed lap. A race is deemed to be complete once it has

reached the halfway mark or beyond should weather or other factors cause it to be stopped and not

restarted. Under circumstances where a MAIN EVENT has not reached the halfway point, UMSS and track

officials may deem it complete should it be close to halfway and no rain date exists to make up the race.

If the MAIN EVENT (feature race) has not started due to weather or some other reason and no rain date

exists to make up the race, the following policy will apply. When Ultimate Sprint Races and Challenge Races

have been completed for the Winged Sprint Cars or heat races have been completed for the Traditional

Sprint Cars, the payoff will be distributed based on passing and finishing points earned from highest to

lowest and all cars present will receive 150 show points.

UMSS officials will work with the track to determine proper compensation or refund of pit passes should an

event be cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances part way into the program but short

of the above specified minimums (heats and challenge races). No feature race points will be earned unless

the event is made up at a later date.

Driver Changes

No driver changes will be allowed after the start of the ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES. A driver may qualify

and race only one car. A driver change can take place after hot laps and prior to the start of the

ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES.

Late Arriving Entrants

If an entrant misses the Ultimate Sprint Race, they will be allowed to tag the rear of the Challenge Race,

and will be awarded passing and finishing points. Late entrant can qualify on points for the Main Event,

however, they will tag the rear of the Main lineup regardless of their point total.

Engine Changes

If a driver changes an engine after hot laps, it is business as usual and they will start in the position they

drew for their heat race. If a driver changes an engine after a heat race, he or she must start the next race

(Challenge Race, B Main or Feature) at the back of the field. For racing programs with Challenge Races, if

a driver changes an engine after the Challenge Race, he or she must start at the back of the feature

assuming they qualify for the feature event. If you start at the back of the Challenge Race due to an engine

change, you will only earn finishing points (no passing points) for that race.

Backup Cars

Backup cars with the same number can be brought out prior to the ULTIMATE SPRINT RACES. For two-

day shows that qualify cars on the first night to the second night, the same car must be used. This applies

to two-day shows at the same track or at different tracks.

Two Divisions on Same Program

When both the UMSS winged sprints and Traditional sprints are scheduled as part of the same racing program at a track, the Traditional sprint cars are allowed to participate in only one division. If a driver has TWO cars, one can be entered in each division. At certain events, Traditional Sprint Cars may be allowed to

participate with the Wing Sprint Cars. If given permission, Traditional Sprint Car Teams that participate must

complete AT LEAST half the total laps for each race during the event to be paid.

Scale

Immediately after each race and before going to your pit, the TOP FIVE (5) finishers in ALL races must

scale. Drivers will be informed of this at the drivers meeting and again on the Raceiver radio following

the conclusion of the race. If in doubt, go to the scale anyways!

Teching

After the MAIN EVENT (Feature race), the TOP FIVE (5) finishers must present their car in the designated

tech area immediately after scaling their car. Failure to do so, or stopping at your pit area, or altering your

car in any way, will result in disqualification. Any car that fails tech inspection will be disqualified and

will receive no money or points for the night. UMSS officials will have complete control of all teching

activity. Decisions of UMSS officials are final. No more than

TWO people, one being the driver, from each team are allowed in the designated teching area.

FLAGS:

Green

When the green flag waves, it constitutes the beginning of a race even if the initial lap is not completed.

Black

Pull safely off the track; leave the racing surface without causing a yellow. Something is wrong with your

car that is jeopardizing the safety of you and/or your fellow drivers. Failing to acknowledge a black flag

is an automatic disqualification.

Yellow

Proceed with caution, do not pass, and pull directly behind the car in front of you forming a single file

(nose-to-tail) line to await the restart line-up. When a yellow is shown, scoring has stopped. Do not race

back to the start/finish line.

Note: If your car comes to a stop, even though no contact was made in an incident, you will be considered

involved and be put to the tail. If your car loses something that causes a yellow, if the part lost doesn't

break any other rule, you can restart on the tail. If debris from another car becomes hooked to yours

causing a dangerous situation, the yellow will come out, your car will be stopped to have the debris

removed, and you will get your spot back. If it can be determined whose car created or lost something to

cause this yellow, that car will be put to the tail. If your car is involved in an incident or stops on the track

causing a yellow, and after the cars on the track are in their correct starting order, you will have two (2)

laps in the designated work area to make any necessary repairs before rejoining the race at the tail of the

field. If repairs cannot be completed in the time allowed, you will not be able to rejoin that race.

Designated work areas are off the racing surface and crews are not allowed to work on the car until it is

in the work area. If work begins before the car is in the work area the car will be disqualified.

Red

The race is being stopped. Slow your car down and bring it to a stop on the racing surface. Do not drive

through a red flag crash scene; doing so will result in a penalty. If contact is made and your car comes to

a stop because of it, you are considered involved. Spinning to avoid a red flag situation also is considered

being involved and in all cases you will restart at the tail of the field.

When stopping for a red flag, pull your car to the upper half of the racetrack to leave the bottom lane

clear for emergency vehicles and to allow a lane for race cars to get through once the track goes to yellow

and cars begin pushing off again.

All red flags are considered closed unless otherwise designated. If UMSS officials decide to open up a red

flag, drivers will be notified via the Raceiver radio and crews given the proper instructions on what can

be done to the car (for example, fuel and tear-offs only).

White

The white flag signals one (1) lap to go before the completion of a race. If a yellow or red flag is needed

on this lap, when racing resumes there will be a green-white- checkered finish.

Checkered

The race has been finished.

Yellow/Checkered (both)

An incident has occurred on the track after the checkered has been shown to the leader or already waved.

The cars crossing the line prior to the yellow light or flag being waved will be scored as finished, the

remainder of the field will be scored from the previous lap, except for the cars involved in the incident,

they will tag the last scored lap. Weather, curfew or track conditions can also cause a yellow/checkered.

Red/Checkered (both)

Same as yellow/checkered; however, the incident is more severe and cars need to stop immediately and

follow the normal "closed" red flag procedures. The race is over!

General Rules & Disclaimer:

PENALTIES AND SANCTIONS

Rules infractions of any type whether discovered through a post-race inspection or teardown, or in connection

with an infraction witnessed by a track official are subject to a confiscation of illegal parts and forfeiture of all

money, awards, and points for that event. In addition, a fine determined by series officials up to $1,000, and/or up

to 30 days suspension, and/or loss of all points earned to date is also possible. Penalties and sanctions shall be at

the discretion of the Track and /or UMSS Officials. If you are disqualified, you cannot use that night as a throw-out

towards the total season points.

AMENDMENTS TO THESE RULES MAY BE MADE IF NECESSARY.

UMSS AND TRACK OFFICIALS DECISIONS ARE FINAL!

Rules disclaimer: The rules and regulations set forth are designed to provide for an orderly conduct of racing

events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events and by participating in the events, all participants are

deemed to have complied with these rules. No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from

publications of, or compliance with these rules and/or regulations. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of

the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or official. Tech

official(s) shall have full authority, at the discretion of the UMSS official(s) in charge, of any competitor and the

competitor may be disqualified for rule violations, hazardous equipment, or hazardous actions. Vehicle approved

by the tech inspector means only the inspected vehicle is approved for participation in a competitive event and

shall not be construed, in any way, to mean the inspected vehicle is guaranteed mechanically sound. Be it further

declared the tech official shall not be liable for any mechanical failure nor for any losses, injuries or death resulting

from inspection.

2016 Winged Specifications

Last Revised: 12/30/2015

Engine Specifications: There are 3 sets of engine rules that are legal.

Package #1: ALL ASCS legal engines (see 2015 ASCS Engine Rules document).

Package #2:

A. All engines with altered ASCS heads and any other 23 valve angle aluminum or iron heads must

run a maximum 2.100" inch I.D. injector sleeves, minimum three inches in length. Top of

sleeves must completely seal the outer injector stacks, no holes or gaps allowed.

B. In place of above sleeve, the approved ASCS Spec Intake gasket is allowed.

C. 360 Cubic Inches: plus 1% maximum displacement (360 plus 1% = 363.6) for (GM), 362 CI (Ford), and 364 CI (Chrysler). Any size or length nozzles allowed, but no down nozzle injectors. Engine is limited to two valves per cylinder and one spark plug.

Note: Engine is subject to tear down by officials at any time.

MISC. Engine Rules:

A. NO ALUMINUM BLOCKS ALLOWED.

B. No Titanium in engines except bolts, valves and valve retainers.

C. Due to manufacturing process, some injector stacks may be slightly larger. There will be a tolerance of .015 allowed on no more than the stacks.

D. No plenum type injectors will be allowed.

E. No timed fuel injectors will be allowed.

F. Electronic fuel injection will not be allowed. Only one injector nozzle and one injector line per

cylinder. Injection unit shall have one shaft-operated butterfly per cylinder.

G. The immediate area of the butterfly must be round. H. No slide or barrel type injectors will be allowed. No turbine driven, turbo or blower will be

allowed.

Two (2) front lower head bolts by #1 cylinder need to be drilled so the UMSS tech person can seal the motor after pumping to 360 Cu In. Failure to have the holes drilled will mean that the next week you will get pumped again. All engines running the UMSS will be pumped and sealed. If the motor is worked on and the seal is broken, the motor will have to be re-pumped and sealed again.

I. UMSS Officials will have the right to randomly pump any engine at any time at their discretion.

J. No big blocks.

K. No computer operated or controlled parts, such as fuel injections, fuel systems, chassis

adjusting systems, etc.

L. No offset motors will be allowed. The engine must be directly in front of the driver.

Driver must straddle drive-line.

M. Any Mag allowed.

N. No Traction control devices allowed. $10,000 fine if caught using traction control of any kind.

Package #3:

UMSS Engine Specifications “SPEC ENGINE” are located at end of this section following the front

wing specifications. Anyone who wishes to run this engine MUST contact Joe Kouba, Technical

Director.

Car Construction & Chassis Specifications:

1. Chassis

A. Open to any sprint car chassis 1994 to present. B. 4130 chrome moly tig welded steel frame (1 ½ inch diameter by .095 minimum tube

thickness on main frame and cage) only. C. Wheelbase: Minimum – 84 inches. Maximum – 96 inches. D. No Titanium, hollow or drilled bolts, fasteners on Heim joints allowed.

2. Body A. Conventional Sprint Car body only. Must be well maintained. B. Must have at least one number of contrasting colors on each side of tail tank and on the

front nose piece. Minimum of 15” tall. C. Hood can be a multiple piece design and must appear to be one continuous piece. D. Conventional side panels only. E. Solid firewall required between the engine and the driver. F. Solid metal floor pan must extend from the firewall to the front of the driver’s seat.

3. Suspension & Steering A. All shocks must be constructed of aluminum or steel. No cockpit adjustable shocks

allowed. One shock per wheel. B. No aluminum rod ends on steering components only, drag link and tie rod sleeve is

recommended to be steel. C. Steel straight front axle only. 53” max width. D. Quick release steering wheel mandatory. E. Drag links must be tethered to the frame with nylon webbing of at least 1 inch width.

4. Driveline A. Quick change center sections required. B. All drivelines must be broken in the coupler or rear slider. C. Driveline must be fully enclosed and contain no more than one U-joint or CV joint and

that joint must be at the front of the driveline. No torque arm drivelines allowed. Drive shaft rear swivel couplers allowed.

D. Driveline safety strap or driveline hoop restraint constructed of .065” steel either welded or bolted to the chassis is mandatory.

E. Steel or approved aluminum shield covering the flywheel is mandatory when bell housing is inside the cockpit.

5. Rear-End A. Any conventional quick change rear-end is allowed.

6. Brakes A. Must have minimum left front and left inboard rear brake system. All brakes must work

at start of event. Rear brakes must work at all times. Additional rear brake allowed. B. Carbon fiber rotors are not allowed. C. No copper or plastic brake lines allowed.

7. Bumpers A. Bumpers and nerf bars must be sprint car type bars, constructed of no less than 1” O.D. and

.060” wall thickness, and securely bolted to the chassis with minimum ¼” bolts. B. Side nerf bars may have a triangular or 4 point configuration and cannot extend outside

rear tires. C. The front bumper cannot extend more than 8 inches from the frame or 23 ½ inches

from center of front axle to front of front bumper.

8. Wheels A. Maximum wheel width: Front 10”, Left Rear 15”, Right Rear 18”.

B. Bead locks on all wheels are recommended.

9. Tires A. Right Rear: Hoosier 104/16-15 Medium. Right rear tire can only be used on right rear of

car.

B. Left Rear: Hoosier RC1 (UMSS Spec Tire). Also allowed, Hoosier H12 or Hoosier D12. Left rear tire can only be used on left rear of car.

C. Fronts: Any Hoosier front tire.

10. Fuel Cell

A. A securely mounted sprint type fuel cell with bladder is required. B. Fuel tanks may not be mounted using any portion of the access plate or the nut plates

bonded into the fuel bladder. C. All mounting points must have inner & outer plates attached to the shell or use mounts

molded into the tank. All tanks will have four different mounts to the cage. D. Check valve or overflow tube required. Overflow tube must be lower than tank,

located on right side. E. Tank size can be from 25-gallon min to 40-gallon max. F. Any car leaking or spilling fuel will be Black-Flagged.

11. Mufflers A. Schoenfeld part #1125345 is mandatory. B. Schoenfeld part # 272735 will also be allowed (Knoxville’s Muffler).

12. Headers A. Any combo of Sprint car type allowed.

13. Fuel A. Racing alcohol only. No gasoline allowed.

B. No Nitro or Nitrous Oxide. C. No additives allowed. Including oxygenated additives. Subject to inspection at any time.

14. Fuel Shut off A. Fuel systems must have shut off device within reach of the driver and marked in large

bold block letters for easy identification. A Waterman Shut-off system is recommended. B. All fuel lines and filters will be securely and safely mounted to the satisfaction of UMSS

officials.

15. Weight A. Minimum weight is 1500 lbs. including fully suited driver.

B. You can be weighed at any time during the event. C. Any added weight should be in block form or formed to frame, painted white with the car

number stamped on it. D. No weight can be added, moved, or replaced during yellow or red flag conditions. E. UMSS officials reserve the right to disqualify any car whose weight mounting procedure or

location does not satisfy our specifications (See illustration on next page).

16. Wings Top Wing

Center foil maximum size is 25 square feet with a maximum width of 60 inches with a one

degree plus or minus tolerance.

A. Center foil shall be fully sheathed in aluminum. Vent holes are strictly prohibited.

B. Wicker bills or gurney lips are permitted on center foil of FLAT wings only, 1”

maximum height.

C. Other than the slider mechanism, no moving parts allowed on or in foil structure.

D. The 12-inch section located at the rear of the center foil must not have the belly/curl arc

out of proportion with the rest of the center foil. The belly/curl arc must span the entire

length of the center foil and appear to be a gradual arc with the deepest point no further

back than 48 inches from the leading edge. As measured on a 12-inch straight edge, the

belly at 6 inches from the rear of the foil may not be deeper than ½ inch. There is zero

tolerance on this ½ inch depth. It is suggested that the wing blue print specify 15/32-inch

depth, so that if any deflection or movement of the wing occurs, the depth will not exceed

the ½-inch specification. (This ½-inch measurement ensures that the belly/curl arc is

gradual.)

E. The belly/curl arc must start at the radius of the center foil’s leading edge and shall not

exceed a depth of 2½ inches. Center foil thickness cannot exceed 9 inches. Center foil

top surface from side to side must remain flat. Center foil must be one-piece

construction. No split or bi-wings will be permitted. Wings must be fabricated of metal

alloys only. No fiberglass, carbon fiber or other similar material may be used in the basic

framework of the wings. Top wing must not extend beyond outside of rear tires.

F. Two stationary foils or rudders will be allowed to run the entire length of the underneath

portion of the top wing. Maximum height proportions are 1 inch at the front and 3 inches

at the rear. Foil must not exceed 3 inches in height. The top wing can be cockpit/driver adjustable.

Front Wing

A. Center foil maximum size is 6 square feet with a maximum width of 36 inches with a one-

degree plus or minus tolerance.

B. Center foil shall be fully sheathed in aluminum. No vent holes allowed.

C. Wicker bills or gurney lips ARE permitted on center foil of wing, 1” maximum height.

D. Maximum distance from the center foil front edge to the front edge of the front axle may not exceed 20 inches.

E. The center foil front edge must remain at least 1 inch behind the front edge of the front bumper. Center foil top surface from side to side must remain flat.

F. Center foil must be one piece. No split or bi-wings will be allowed.

G. Wings must be fabricated of metal alloys only. No fiberglass, carbon fiber or other similar

material may be used in the basic framework of the wings.

H. The front wing must not extend beyond outside of front tires. The front wing may not be

cockpit or driver adjustable while the car is stationary or in motion.

I. No moving parts allowed on or in foil structure.

J. The 5” section located at the rear of the front foil must not have a bell/curl arc that is out of

proportion with the rest of the front foil. As measured on a 5-inch straight edge, the belly

at 2 ½ inches from the rear of the foil may not be deeper than 3/8 inch. There is zero

tolerance on this 3/8- inch depth. It is suggested that the wing blue print specify 11/32-

Engine Package #3 Rules: UMSS Engine Specifications for the “SPEC ENGINE” are as follows.

1. Block A. Any 350 CI stock iron block that was available in a GM passenger car or truck.

B. Any 351 CI stock iron block that was available in a Ford passenger car or truck.

C. Cubic inch limit will not exceed 360 CI plus 1% clean up 363.6 CI. D. High Performance blocks may be used including but not limited to GM, Ford, Dart and

World Products. E. Absolutely no lightening of any kind. All mounts must remain, fuel pump, motor etc.

Note: UMSS Officials will have the right to randomly pump any engine at any time at their

discretion.

2. Crankshaft A. Any crank/stroke combo allowed except billet.

3. Rods A. Any 5.7, 5.85 or 6.00 long for GM products.

B. Any 5.956 long for Ford products. C. No titanium or aluminum. D. No titanium bolts or nuts.

4. Pistons/Rings A. Any stock or aftermarket piston allowed as well as any ring set. B. Engines must not exceed 9.5:1 compression ratio rule as installed with your heads and gasket.

5. Cam/Lifters A. Only stock GM part number lifters are allowed as replacement.

B. Lifters must collapse minimum of .100”. C. Stock or stock replacement rocker arms only. No roller tip rockers allowed. D. Rocker arm trunions may be upgraded to allow more lift if needed. No other modifications

stock dimensions valves. This means head diameter of 1.89" on intakes and 1.55 on exhausts, stock length and stem diameter. Seats and guides may also be replaced.

2016 UMSS GM 602 Crate Engine Disclosure The UMSS is going to allow one Traditional Sprint Car Team to use the GM 602 sealed crate engine in 2016. It will be purchased from Pace Performance and will utilize a smaller two barrel carburetor rather than the normal four barrel carburetor. The approach is to start with lower horsepower (360) than most and torque of about 410 foot pounds to determine if it needs more horsepower to be competitive. Once this determination has been made and all configurations tested, the engine will most likely be allowed for the Traditional Sprint Car Series in 2017. Jeremy Kerzman has agreed to purchase and test this engine. The engine will go to R&R Performance to be dynode before it will be allowed to compete. Jeremy Kerzman will be allowed to start where he is supposed to at each event and collect his pay and points.

2016 UMSS DYNO RULE

This rule will apply to the UMSS Traditional Sprint Car Series only for 2016. At the discretion of the UMSS President or Head Technical Official, any engine that has not been already dynode, may be required to do so at owner’s expense. After inspection of the internal parts, if it is decided your engine needs to be dynode, your engine will be sealed and you will have two weeks to complete your session at R&R Performance in Spring Lake Park Minnesota. You will be allowed to participate for up to those two weeks, but your pay will be withheld. You will not be allowed to participate after two weeks if dyno session is not completed. If the dyno session finds your engine to be over the allowable horsepower and/or torque limits, you will be fined $1,000, lose your points and be suspended for two weeks. The fine must be paid and engine recertified before you will be allowed to participate.

Car Construction & Chassis Specifications:

1. Chassis A. Open to any sprint car chassis 1984 to present. B. 4130 chrome-moly, tig welded steel frame (1 ½ inch diameter by .095 minimum tube thickness

on main frame and cage) only. C. Wheelbase: Minimum – 84 inches. Maximum – 96 inches. D. No hollow or drilled bolts, fasteners or Heim joints allowed.

2. Body A. Conventional Sprint Car body only. Must be well maintained. B. Must have at least one number of contrasting colors on each side of tail tank and on the front

nosepiece. Minimum of 15” tall. C. Hood can be a multiple piece design and must appear to be one continuous piece. D. Conventional side panels only. E. No aerodynamic devices or wings allowed. F. Sun visors are limited to nine (9) inches long and cannot be wider than the cage. G. Solid metal firewall required between the engine and the driver. H. Solid metal floor pan must extend from the firewall to the front of the driver’s seat.

suspension components allowed. No remote or external canister type shocks allowed. One shock per wheel. May be rebound or compression adjustable on the shock only.

B. Any conventional torsion bar or coil-over suspension is allowed. Combining the two is allowed. No anti sway or zero-roll devices allowed.

C. Steel straight front axle only. 53” max width. D. Quick release steering wheel mandatory. E. Drag links must be tethered to the frame with nylon webbing of at least 1 inch width.

4. Driveline A. Quick-change center sections required. B. All drivelines must be broken in the coupler or rear slider. C. Driveline must be fully enclosed and contain no more than one U-joint or CV joint and that

joint must be at the front of the driveline. No torque arm drivelines allowed. D. Buckley Yokes are allowed. E. Driveline safety strap or driveline hoop restraint constructed of .065” steel either welded or

inside the cockpit.

5. Rear-End A. Any conventional quick change rear-end is allowed.

B. Maximum 2” offset allowed.

6. Brakes A. Must have minimum left front and left inboard rear brake system. All brakes must work at

start of event. Rear brakes must work at all times. Additional rear brake allowed. B. Carbon fiber rotors are not allowed. C. No copper or plastic brake lines allowed.

7. Bumpers A. Bumpers and nerf bars must be sprint car type bars, constructed of no less than 1” O.D. and

.060” wall thickness, and securely bolted to the chassis with minimum ¼” bolts. B. Side nerf bars may have a triangular or 4 point configuration and cannot extend outside

rear tires. C. The front bumper cannot extend more than 8 inches from the frame or 23 ½ inches from

center of front axle to front of front bumper.

8. Wheels A. Maximum wheel width: Front 10”, Left Rear 15”, Right Rear 18”.

B. Bead locks on all wheels are recommended.

9. Tires A. Right Rear: Hoosier Medium. Right rear tire can only be used on right rear of car.

B. Left Rear: Hoosier RC1, Hoosier H12 or Hoosier D12. Left rear tire can only be used on left rear of car.

C. Fronts: Any Hoosier.

10. Weight A. Minimum weight is 1500 lbs., including fully suited driver.

B. You can be weighed at any time during the event. C. Any added weight must be in block form or formed to frame, painted white with the car

number stamped on it. No weight can be added, moved, or replaced during yellow or red flag conditions.

D. UMSS officials reserve the right to disqualify any car whose weight mounting procedure or location does not satisfy our specifications. (See illustration)
