• Repairs and maintenance to provincial and municipal roads

• Funding for the bridges has been allocated from
SANRALs non-toll budget allocation
• Hybrid Funding Model to be used to fund the
remaining road portions:
• Combination of state funding (Fiscus) and
borrowing (Bonds)
• However the exact details are currently being
resolved with Treasury
• Funding for biodiversity offset agreement
• Awaiting Treasury procedures

Impact

The project will have a huge positive impact on the Eastern
Cape and particularly the Pondoland area • The N2 WCR will be a Sustainable Development Corridor that will
form the Spine for the EC and Pondoland Development
• Greenfields portion will provide access to one of the most beautiful
but currently inaccessible and impoverished areas in SA
• The Mtentu and Msikaba bridges will be tourist attractions in their
own right complimenting the tourism attractions of the Wild Coast
• Will improve economic and logistic linkages in the region
• The project will have major socio- economic benefits
• Will open up the tourism and agriculture potential of the region
• Will significantly benefit the environment through the environmental
off-set agreement
• Will transform the EC construction industry landscape

has been closed- related to watercourse monitoring.
No major incidents have been recorded.
Search and Rescue for protected species conducted;
Topsoil that was removed from the site camps was
being monitored and kept weed free;
Environmental Awareness training was conducted;
Drip trays placed under stationery vehicles;
Water quality and flow monitoring is being
undertaken as required.;
A firebreak has been cleared on site;
Sign boards with contractor’s details are placed on
site;
The site has been cordoned off from general public
access.
Stockpile areas should be identified and
approved.
Aveng Grinaker LTA to ensure that suitable bins
are provided for hazardous waste.
Contractor to ensure that any ablution facilities
and water pumps are located outside of the 100m
buffer zone of a watercourse.
Carrying out of grave relocations without
supervision by a scientist and the use of an
excavator for the exhumation of graves older than
60 years.
ECO's have not received training by
palaeontologist for identification of :
• Freshly exposed outcrops of the Ecca and
Beaufort Group ,
• Any road widening in the Mbashe River
valley,
• Shales in the Msikaba Formation; and
Possible outcrop of the Mzamba Formation.”
• Aveng LTA at Msikaba North will need to
undertake some blasting during the Cape Griffon
Vulture (Msikaba colony) egg-laying season
(March-July).
Contractor to ensure that any ablution facilities
and water pumps are located outside of the 100m
buffer zone of a watercourse.
Drip tray or similar equipment must be used to
ensure that any fuel leaks that may occur from the
water abstraction pump are contained.
AGLTA to ensure that temporary diversions are
done when crossing watercourses.
Daily photographs of watercourses required by
WUL 21(c)(i)
