100-P01 ORDER OF OPERATIONS: Place a Bituminous Seal Coat after milling and before the RAP Superpave FAA 45 Overlay from RP 1.5387 to RP 6.1203.
107-115 RAILROAD PROTECTIVE LIABILITY INSURANCE: This project crosses the BNSF
Railway Company at RP 11.175. The type of work that will be performed within the railroad right of way is excavation, base, and paving. Direct inquiries regarding protective liability insurance to: Rosa Martinez Marsh Co. Texas 214-303-8519 Obtain information regarding crossing number 394024B from the Federal Railroad Administration website: http://safetydata.fra.dot.gov/Officeofsafety/
107-P01 RAILROAD FLAGGING: Provide one month notice for Railroad Flagging to:
David A. Johnson BNSF Railway Minneapolis, MN (763)782-3492 107-700 HAUL ROADS: The Engineer will not designate paved roads off the state system as haul
roads. 107-710 HAUL ROADS: Before submitting a proposal, contact the appropriate State, County,
Township, or City officials to determine if there are any roadways that will be designated as "no haul routes".
202-P01 REMOVE & SALVAGE BITUMINOUS SURFACING: Remove and salvage bituminous
surfacing at the subcut locations. Use removed and salvaged bituminous surfacing for filling subcut areas to the top of proposed pavement elevation to allow for proper drainage and traffic maintenance prior to paving. Size removed material to be reused to a maximum size of two inches.
Place salvaged bituminous material to the proposed pavement elevation after the
placement of the Aggregate Base Course Class 5 and prior to placing traffic on the subcut locations. Remove the salvaged bituminous surfacing to the proposed base elevation prior to paving. Place first lift of pavement prior to opening to traffic and within 24 hours of removing the salvaged bituminous material.
Include all costs for temporary placement and the subsequent removal of the salvaged
bituminous surfacing in the bid item for Remove and Salvage Bituminous Surfacing. If the Engineer and Contactor agree in writing, plan quantity can be used as the method of measurement in lieu of weighing.
401-100 TACK COAT: When MS-1 is used for tack coat, it may be diluted by the supplier or the
Contractor. 411-P01 MILLING PAVEMENT SURFACE: Change the 5 day requirement in the last sentence of
specification 411.04 to 10 calendar days in the area from RP 1.5387 to RP 6.1203.
420-P01 BITUMINOUS SEAL COAT – Perform final sweeping just prior to placing RAP Superpave FAA 45 overlay.
430-P01 RECYCLED ASPHALT PAVEMENT: In addition to the items required in Section 430.04
D.2, "Items to be Submitted", submit a 165 pound sample of milled material 430-P02 RAP SUPERPAVE FAA 45: Construct all pavement as specified in Section 430.04 I.3,
“Ordinary Compaction”. 704-001 TRAFFIC CONTROL FOR UNEVEN PAVEMENT: The supplementary plaque identifying
the length of uneven pavement in Section 704.04 O of the Standard Specifications shall be sign W20-52-54.
704-P01 TRAFFIC CONTROL FOR BITUMINOUS PAVEMENT: Provide traffic control consisting
of a temporary road closure, flagging, and a pilot car.
Traffic control device quantities are based on a 6 mile limitation and the list below. Provide additional devices at no additional cost to the Department.
1. Standard D-704-15, layout A for temporary road closure during paving operations. 2. Standard D-704-20, layout G for intersecting routes. 3. Standard D-704-22, layouts K and L for trucks hauling material. 5. Standard D-704-26, layouts CC, EE, GG, and KK as applicable.
704-P02 TRAFFIC CONTROL FOR RUMBLE STRIPS: Maintain traffic at all times. The Traffic
Control Devices List has been developed using the following layouts on the Standard Drawings for traffic control:
D-704-15, Type A for temporary one lane closure using flagger for cutting in centerline rumble strips.
D-704-27, for the fog sealing and striping operations. For cutting in centerline rumble strips, provide traffic control as described below:
Provide, at a minimum, 2 sets of signs for D-704-15, Layout A. This Traffic control requires a minimum of two flaggers working at all times. Limit the work zone to 3 miles or less. Ensure signs and flaggers are in place prior to starting the rumble strip operation. Include the cost of moving the signs in the price bid for “Traffic Control Signs.” Both sets of signs shown in D-704-15, Layout A, will be paid for. Any other method of traffic control must be approved by the engineer prior to use in the field. For shoulder rumble strips, use either the method described above or use Standard Drawing D-704-56.
704-P03 TRAFFIC CONTROL FOR MILLING TRANSITIONS: Use D-704-26, Type EE and Type Z after milling the transitions at the begin/end project and bridge ends to show the location of the bump and to reduce the speed to 35 MPH. Place the “Bump” sign after the speed zone.

This document was originally issued and sealed by Jason Fischer,
Registration Number PE-6865,
on 05/13/15 and the original document
is stored at the North Dakota Department of Transportation.
704-P04 TRAFFIC CONTROL FOR BRIDGE DECK OVERLAYS: Use D-704-31 Non-signalized Low Volume One Lane Closure for bridge deck overlay work. D-704-15, Type A may be used in conjunction with D-704-31 during work hours if authorized by the engineer.
704-P05 TRAFFIC CONTROL FOR SUBCUTS: Use D-704-31 Non-signalized Low Volume One
Lane Closure for subcut lane closures. D-704-15, Type A may be used in conjunction with D-704-31 during work hours if authorized by the engineer.
704-P06 MAINTAINING TRAFFIC: If public traffic is operating in an area with a drop-off greater
than 2 inches, construct a temporary wedge composed of aggregate or salvaged bituminous material with a foreslope of 4:1 or flatter and install delineator drums along the edge of the driving lane.
The Engineer will not measure material used to construct the wedge. The cost of the temporary wedge and the aggregate or salvaged bituminous material required for this operation shall not be paid for separately but shall be included in the price bid for aggregate or earthwork pay items. If a traversable taper wedge cannot be provided, provide 24 hour flagging and pilot car at own expense.
704-P07 TRAFFIC CONTROL FOR SEAL COATS: Provide traffic control consisting of a temporary lane closure, flagging, and a pilot car.
Traffic control device quantities are based on a 5 mile limitation and following list: 1. Standard D-704-15, layout A 2. Standard D-704-20, layout H 3. Standard D-704-22, layouts K and L.
709-P01 GEOSYNTHETIC GEOGRID (TYPE G): Place the first lift of Class 5 aggregate over
geogrid installed on subgrade to a compacted depth of eight inches. Place the second lift to a compacted depth of seven inches.
Place all lifts of Class 5 aggregate at a moisture content not less than 2.0 percentage points below, nor more than 3.0 percentage points above the optimum moisture determined by the engineer. Compact the bottom lift using pneumatic-tired rollers. Use “jumping jack” compactors around the edges and where pneumatic-tired rollers are not feasible. Compact aggregate until no rutting or displacement occurs under the compaction equipment. Take care not to damage the subgrade by over-compacting. Compact the top lift according to 203.04 C. Use “jumping jack” compactors around the edges and where self-propelled rollers are not feasible.
