Types of Retailing Investigating six different sorts of shopping environment

description

1. Attributes like price and service in the store along with perceptions of personnel in the store appear to matter more to consumers rather than brand selection. Since the consumer perception was influenced to a great extent in the store, therefore it made sense for Goodyear to franchise stores in the first three years o their existence by providing them training in operations, finance and other aspects of the business. Also perhaps it is increase brand perception that it makes sense to have a product like Aquatred that can easily distinguish itself.2. Over the years there has been no major movement in the way consumers have changed their behaviour. In 1985 48% were price oriented while in 1992 45% were price oriented. 26% were brand oriented in 1985 while 22% were brand oriented in 1992. 26% were outlet oriented in 1985 while in 1992 33% were outlet oriented. Thus the outlet oriented customers appear to have increased in proportion while the importance of brands has relatively decreased. This is also perhaps in line with the growing assertiveness of dealers. The National Tire Dealers and Retreaders association has already passed a bill of rights in 1992 which seeks manufacturers to consult dealers before taking important decisions. Another type of segmentation could entail the source from which consumers obtain their products such as garages, warehouse clubs, mass merchandisers, manufacturer owned outlets, small independent tire dealers, large independent tire chains and others.3. Another type of segmentation could also be the type of services that a consumer is looking for when she sets out to purchase a tire. Whether a consumer wants other auto services along with tire replacement, what are the typical number of tires that a consumer purchases. The Just Tires retail format is thus a scheme that will enable customers who merely want their tires replaced to be able to do so.
