THIS WEEK AT THE PARISH Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time In the Gospel today is described a man who has two sons. The man, of course, is God. The sons differ in that one is religiously observant while the other is not. The observant son says "yes" when his father tells him to work in the vineyard, but later blows off the request and does his own thing. Let's pay special attention to the second son who, when his father calls him to the vineyard, says "no", but later repents and goes in. As we work to evangelize, we need to remember not to write anyone off, not to give up on them. Here was a son who disobeyed his father to his face, but later went to work. We never know, until the end, if someone might repent, might change. The gospel gives us hope as we look at the rebellious members in our own families or among our friends and realize that they could possibly change their "no" to a "yes." Again, continue to pray and ask the Lord to show you whom he might wish you to work with in order to lead them back to his vineyard. It could be a spouse, a child, or a grandchild. Stay open to God, and keep asking for guidance. Listen for his answer and whether it be a spouse, family member or friend, understand, that people do change. Scripture says, The oppressed often rise to a throne, and some that none would consider wear a crown. Holy Comforter-Saint Cyprian Roman Catholic Church

Rosary Crusade for October 2020

Dear HCSC Parishioners and Friends,

As your Pastor, I ask that all of you consider praying the Rosary daily during the month of October. There is so much for which we must pray:

For an end to this pandemic For peace in our land For racial justice For the upcoming elections For unity in a very divided country

We must also pray for our parish: that all will return to the Sacraments when it is prudent and that we may continue to grow through Word, Sacrament and Witness. At this time, many of us are not able to gather for Mass, but here is an opportunity to be united in an effort of prayer.

In all her apparitions, Our Blessed Lady has urged all the faithful to pray the rosary daily and has assured us that it is one of our essential weapons to avert disaster in our world and thwart the devil’s plan. The rosary has also been called “the Gospel on a string” since we meditate on the most essential events of our Lord’s life. Hence, we confound Satan, and grow in our faith and gratitude for what the Lord has done to save us.

October is dedicated as the Month of the Rosary because we celebrate the memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7. The origins goes back to October 7, 1541 during one of the largest naval battles in Western history where two navies were in the pivotal Battle of Lepanto on the seas. Pius V knew he needed more than just military strength to defend Christian Europe, so he asked that all the faithful pray the rosary requesting the intercessions of the Blessed Mother. After the miraculous victory, Pius V established a feast on October 7 in honor of the Blessed Mother, originally called Our Lady of Victory. After a few centuries, the name was changed to Our Lady of the Rosary to more clearly recognize that prayer was the greatest power at work that day on the seas.

The rosary is an invitation to experience the grace of Mary’s spiritual motherhood as she leads us to her Son, Jesus. Maybe this would be a good month to pray the rosary to see what graces the Lord wants to pour into your life from the rose garden of this daily meditation.

Included here is information on how to pray the rosary. As a we become aware of other ministries that will offer opportunities to pray the rosary via Zoom or other venues, we will list them in the bulletin and website (hcscchurch.org). We will also offer communal intentions through the month of October so that we can unite in prayer even when many of us are separated.

Pray the rosary every day at a time that you are able to meditate. Pray with your spouse, children or friends. Pray with others on the phone. Don’t worry if you can’t pray at the same time each day, just find a time to pray. Won’t you join with us in prayer this October? Won’t you make a pledge to pray the rosary every day?

Join the HCSC Sodality in praying the Rosary on Oct. 4th via Zoom at 10:00AM.

following prayer requested by the Blessed Virgin Mary at

Fatima: "O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from

the fires of hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who have most need of your mercy."

Hail Mary:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee. Blessed art Thou among women and Blessed is the fruit of

Thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

Amen

Glory Be:

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning is now, and ever

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially

those who are most in need of Thy Mercy.

Hail Holy Queen:

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy! Hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To Thee do we cry, poor

banished children of Eve. To Thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, most gracious Advocate thine eyes of mercy towards us and after this, our exile, show unto us

the blessed fruit of Thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God; R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Concluding Rosary Prayer: O God, whose only begotten Son, by his life, death, and resurrection, has
