TWENTY SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: MAY WE NEVER STOP PLEADING, NEVER STOP PRAYING

In today´s first reading from Habakkuk, we hear pleading, we hear desperation, a sense that the prayer is not being heard; but then the Lord says wait, be patient, and you will not be disappointed. In today’s gospel from Luke, we hear the disciple’s asking the Lord to increase their faith, something I pray for every time we profess our creed on Sundays. Also something we should individually pray for as a people of God and as people who are constantly assaulted in the world. As people who look to God and at the same time recognize that we have faults and sometimes stumble. There are times in our lives that the cross gets heavy and we are human. Sometimes we pray and want the Lord to answer quickly, the pain is real. But also we have seen from our experience that God does not act in haste, when he responds or acts it is in His time and when it needs to be. So I pray along with you for patience, for guidance and strength to be able to carry the cross faithfully and with love. The Lord does not disappoint. The disciples’ plea should be our plea: our faith sometimes is placed upon the wrong person, the wrong object; our faith should be placed on no other person than God. When we misplace our faith, it tends to let us down, for the only perfect being is our God, then we start straying from the One who truly cares and gives us life. We should ask for a faith that withstands storms, that no matter what hardship may come, we may be standing firmly upon the rock. We should ask for a faith that challenges us, in the sense that it may move us to get closer to God and deepen our living in God. A faith that sends us forth, we have started our extraordinary missionary move, may we stir up the gifts we have received, as Paul tells in the second reading, and have the courage to plant seeds of God’s kingdom wherever we may be and wherever we may go. Lord, increase our faith.

VIGÉSIMO SÉPTIMO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO:

NO DEJEMOS DE PEDIR, NO DEJEMOS DE ORAR

En la primera lectura de hoy de Habacuc, escuchamos súplicas, escuchamos desesperación, una sensación de que la oración no se escucha; pero entonces el Señor, dice: espera, sé paciente, y no te decepcionará. En el evangelio de hoy de Lucas, escuchamos que el discípulo le pide al Señor que aumente su fe, algo por lo que oro cada vez que profesamos nuestro credo los domingos. También algo por lo que debemos orar individualmente como pueblo de Dios y como personas que son constantemente atacadas en el mundo. Como personas que miran a Dios y al mismo tiempo reconocen que tenemos fallas y a veces tropezamos. Hay momentos en nuestras vidas en que la cruz se vuelve pesada y somos humanos. A veces oramos y queremos que el Señor responda rápidamente, el dolor es real. Pero también hemos visto por nuestra experiencia que Dios no actúa apresuradamente, cuando responde o actúa, es en su momento y cuando es necesario. Así que oro junto con ustedes por paciencia, por orientación y fortaleza para poder llevar la cruz fielmente y con amor. El Señor no decepciona. La súplica de los discípulos debe ser nuestra súplica: nuestra fe a veces se coloca sobre la persona equivocada, el objeto equivocado; nuestra fe debe ser puesta en ningún otra persona que no sea Dios. Cuando extraviamos nuestra fe, tiende a decepcionarnos, ya que el único ser perfecto es nuestro Dios, entonces comenzamos a alejarnos de Aquel que realmente se preocupa y nos da la vida. Deberíamos pedir una fe que resista las tormentas, que sin importar las dificultades que surjan, podemos estar parados firmemente sobre la roca. Deberíamos pedir una fe que nos desafíe, en el sentido de que puede movernos a acercarnos a Dios y profundizar nuestra vida en Dios. Una fe que nos envía, hemos comenzado nuestro extraordinario movimiento misionero, podemos agitar los dones que hemos recibido, como dice Pablo en la segunda lectura, y tener el coraje de plantar semillas del reino de Dios donde sea que estemos y donde sea que vayamos ir. Señor, aumenta nuestra fe.

Hay que considerar bien todo lo dicho, ya que Dios nos ha destinado en este tiempo para estas almas, y no para otras; y eso mismo es lo que vemos en la Escritura, donde leemos que Dios destinaba a sus profetas a tales personas y no quería que fuesen a otras. Hermanos míos, ¿que responderemos a Dios si, por culpa nuestra, muriese alguna de esas almas y se perdiese? ¿No seríamos nosotros mismos, por así decirlo, los que la ha-bríamos condenado? Porque ¿quién respondería de esa alma? Esto es tan cierto como que estamos aquí y que Dios, cuando muramos, nos pedirá cuenta de ello.

Heavenly Father, when your only begotten Son Jesus Christ rose from the dead, he commissioned his followers to “go and make disciples of all nations” and you remind us that through our Baptism we are made sharers in the mission of the Church. Empower us by the gifts of the Holy Spirit to be courageous and zealous in bearing witness to the Gospel, so that the mission entrusted to the Church, which is still very far from completion, may find new and efficacious expressions That bring life and light to the world. Help us make it possible for all peoples to experience the saving love and mercy of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.

HOLY SACRAMENTS

Infant Baptism Birth to 6 yrs. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the first Sunday of every month. Baptism preparation class for parents and Godparents are held on the Tuesday prior to the Baptism Sunday. Parent(s) or Godparent(s), please bring an original birth certificate of the child to the main office where you can begin the process of registration for this beautiful sacrament.

Children’s Faith Formation ages 7 yrs. to 15 yrs. (Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation) Our Children’s Faith Formation program provides preparation of the Holy Sacraments for children. The program follows Diocesan Guidelines for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children. The hours for children's faith formation classes are Sunday, 9:30 A.M. -1:00 P.M.

Pentecost Confirmation 16 yrs. and older Are you baptized and received First Holy Communion but have not completed the Sacrament of Confirmation and you are over the age of 16? Our Confirmation only program begins in January in preparation for Pentecost Confirmation typically at the end of May or beginning of June.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) (Becoming a Catholic)

Are you baptized? Have you received First Holy Communion? Are you Confirmed? Adults and youth at least 16 yrs. of age seeking full initiation into the Catholic Church are invited to enter into a process of faith formation. RCIA classes are all year round.

LOS SACRAMENTOS Bautismo para bebes nacimiento a 6 años

Los bautismos para bebes se celebran el primer domingo de cada mes. La clase de preparación del bautismo para los padres y padrinos es el martes antes del domingo del bautismo. Padres o Padrinos, traiga el certificado de nacimiento original del niño a la oficina principal donde pueden comenzar el proceso de inscripción para este hermoso sacramento.

Formación de Fe para Niños 7 años hasta 15 años (Bautismo, Primera Comunión, Confirmación) El programa de formación de fe para nuestros niños se prepara los niños para sus Sacramentos. El programa sigue las Directrices Diocesanas para el Rito de Iniciación Cristiana de los Niños. Las horas para las clases son domingo, 9:30 A.M. -1:00 P.M.

Confirmación de Pentecostés 16 años y adelante ¿Se ha bautizado y recibido la Primera Comunión pero no ha completado el Sacramento de la Confirmación y tiene más de 16 años de edad? Nuestro programa de Confirmación solo comienza en enero en preparación para la Confirmación de Pentecostés típicamente en mayo o junio.

Este programa ha tomado su nombre del pasaje del evangelio en el que Jesús asiste a la celebración de las Bodas de Caná. Al convertir el agua en vino, Jesús nos enseña que toda boda tiene dos elementos: el de celebración y el de transformación.
