Trading since 1992, Turnstyle Designs has been

creating architectural hardware that is unique in both

design and construction.

Every month a new, design, product or finish is

developed, either for inclusion into our own range of

products or as a custom piece for a client. Keeping up

with this prolific level of creativity is a challenge in

itself, many products are pre launched on our website

in the “new products” section as well as being tested

at various design exhibitions; the market gauged,

rough spots ironed out and then the selection is edited

down to the very best.

This is what has found its way into our latest

catalogue, ideas and designs that have been honed,

production systems and processes fine tuned to

present only the very best British design and

craftsmanship.

Turnstyle offers a broad enough palate to suit most

styles, with enough choice of finishes and sizes

throughout the full hardware gamut to make Turnstyle

a one stop shop, regardless of the size of project.

Turnstyle Designs is a wholly owned private business,

Made in England

Turnstyle Designs products are manufactured in the UK.

We only use the best materials on the market, and employ highly

skilled specialist craftsmen, engineers and assembly workers for our

production. We stand by our product in design, function and

durability. Rest assured you are buying the best.

The main materials used in our products are laid out below:

Composites

Our unique composite blends have become one of our trade marks:

Incredibly versatile and durable, each piece is hand cast and finished

and will pass through at least eight pairs of hands before being

finally packed for dispatch. Every piece is unique with its own

individually crafted character and charm. With the exception of Bone,

all our composites are suitable for both interior and exterior use,

including coastal environments.

All composites are made from a closely guarded blend of resins,

mixed with core ingredients as listed on the following page.

Leatherwork

All our leather door levers, door knobs and door pulls are hand

stitched and bonded. Cabinet hardware, with the exception of The

Saville range, is machine stitched and bonded, both highly skilled

crafts, with years of training and experience that produce

unsurpassed quality and some designs that are seemingly impossible

to produce.

The Leather

We only use the very best vegetable tanned, full grain (the top and

strongest section), drum dyed, bridle leather. Our leather comes from

cattle that are farmed outdoors without the use of barbed wire,

which dramatically reduces scarred hides (which the cows also prefer).

Leather, like all natural materials will change with age, according to

the situation, exposure to sunlight and usage (or lack of). The more

you use it, the better, the oils from your hands feed the leather and

adds a unique patina. Like an old handbag or briefcase, the character

gets richer with age.

Tactile and seductive there is nothing better than the feel and smell

of real leather, a natural choice for handles.

Custom Leatherwork

Based on a minimum value we will either source different colours or

use customers` own leather, please speak with our sales department

regarding suitability of leather and design.

Brass and Metalwork

Turnstyle uses a host of manufacturing processes to produce the best

results, including hot forging, turning, stamping and wire forming. On

the whole we use solid brass, apart from the Saddle and

Combination D handles, where we use Zamak. Whatever the method,

it is the finishing that counts, and our finishes are superb.

For prices on custom sizes, other plated finishes, or complete custom

designs, please contact our sales department with full details of the

project. See pages 64-65 for examples of some recent custom work.

Variations

Over the years we have learned that with hand made products

it is impossible to maintain 100% consistency with some of

our materials. Subtle variations can occur from batch to batch, please

allow for this.

Please note, the majority of our products are made or assembled to

order, once assembled they cannot be dismantled, we urge you to

double check all your confirmation copies (every order is confirmed in

writing) to ensure details, finishes etc are correct before we

despatch.

Apart from the many hands and eyes each product passes through

during the manufacturing process, each and every product and

component is quality checked in component form and after assembly.

The chances therefore of any of our product reaching a customer

substandard or faulty is extremely remote. If, however you do find

our product defective in any way, please contact us immediately for a

replacement.

Environmental Statement

At Turnstyle Designs we endeavour to keep waste to a minimum and

recycling to a maximum. All office stationery and inward packaging is

re used and/or recycled, outward packaging is 95% recyclable,

energy is bought from renewable sources, brochures are printed on

PEFC sourced paper.

We manufacture locally thus reducing our carbon footprint for

transport, vegetable tanned leather, not chromium, and composite

fillers are by-products. Waste materials are recycled wherever

possible. Seconds and discontinued lines are sold on at below factory

prices (see www.knobstoyou.com)

Our environmental stance does not come from a marketing

perspective but a real need and recognition that we all have to

reduce consumption and think about every element of what we use

and how we use it. The future of the planet lies with all of us as

individuals, if we all contribute and improve our lifestyles and way of

thinking, we, as a collective can and will make all the difference.
