John Tsarouhis born in Piraeus in 1910. Part of his childhood (1920-1925), this great painter from Piraeus, was spent on luxury family homes Metaxas. Although the family moved Tsarouhis 1927 in Athens, Piraeus rooted deep within the artist, both for the upper middle class environment in which he was raised and influenced him artistically, and for poor folk districts were making frequent trips during his childhood.

In 1938 , two years after returning to Greece he held his first solo exhibition with works that present particular personality praised by critics then Papantoniou and Capetanakis . In 1940 he was employed and served to the Engineer. In 1950 he went back to Paris a year later, in 1951 , exhibited in Paris and London in " Retfri Gallery " , and in 1953 signed a contract with the gallery Iolas New York .

In 1956 he was nominated for Guggenheim and 1958 took part in the Venice Biennale . In 1967 he moved to Paris . In 1982 the Museum was inaugurated Tsarouchis in Maroussi , home of the artist , he turned into a museum giving the personal collection of his works. Alongside is the Foundation Tsarouhis to disseminate the work of the painter .

The work of John Tsarouhis mainly expressed the joy and wonder of life. He tried to balance the great traditions and capture the eternal artistic values . His paintings include assimilated many popular folklore and particularly the port of Piraeus. He was highly considered by the greatest contemporary Greek artists with international exposure ,particularly in France . At the same time he worked as a designer in both Greek and foreign theaters always with great success .

To him is due the introduction , almost all the scenes of Greek cinema filmed in traditional centers , the presence of the sailor either dance or not , and even considered necessary . In 1977 he staged the Trojan Women by Euripides in his Modern Greek performance on his own teaching and scenography .
