Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed

do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

(Colossians 3:17)

In this Season of giving thanks, God has awaken us to see, taste, hear, smell and touch. We see the beauty of the trees and the hearty mums. We taste the pumpkin spice coffees. We hear the wind and the leaves rustles. We smell the smoke from the fireplace. Most of all, we touch another person through God’s words and caring opportunities.

I thank all of our members as I have been getting organized. My favorite thing is to hear the stories of our members. How we can connect with one another so that we become “rich” by knowing each other. I have already seen the love, kindness, compassion, strength, wisdom, and honesty. I thank Jean and Anne for setting up times for me to meet my brothers and sisters. I will enjoy the time with the small groups.

I look forward to many ways to outreach and invite people into our family. I began to reach out to the Police Department, Fire Department, Town hall, “Girls on the run”, and getting involved with Yoga. In addition, I believe that we will walk through a six month program to create a contemporary worship service. We will have the ability to provide power point which gives us an understanding for teaching children. However there are my details that we need to consider. Therefore, I am looking forward to the worship and music committee as to provide creative ways to celebrate God’s love and forgiveness.

Believe in Jesus, feel our Holy Spirit, and hold tight to the Father.

Lots of excitement is happening as we move into the holidays!! May it be God’s will for us to lift up our thoughts, direction, and enthusiasm!!!

Blessings,

Pastor Amy

Dear Fellow Members and Friends of Zion, November 2019

Thank you to Doris Nelson for the lovely photo taken of our church. It’s hard to believe that by the time you read this most of the leaves will have fallen!

As we enter November and this time of Thanksgiving we have so much for which we are grateful. We appreciate the Generosity shown from the pledge cards received. This is indicative of the love you have for Zion and all the good works we have accomplished and have yet to accomplish! Pledge cards will be collected until Sunday, November 24th.

Our Feed The Northeast 2019 non-perishable food collection got off to a wonderful start. Nearly 300 items have already been collected – with the goal of 500 needed for Thrivent to provide a check to the Paterson Men’s Shelter for $500. Thank you to Chip Antonelli for leading this worthy outreach opportunity. The last day for collection is Sunday, November 3rd – please drop your items off in the Narthex at church or in the bin at Fellowship Hall (on the bench under the overhang by the front door) if that is more convenient.

Lili and Dotti are doing a terrific job leading us with the Shelter dinners. I remind you of the sign-up sheets in the Narthex for helping prepare, deliver, and serve at the Men’s Shelter in Paterson. Feel free to email [email protected] or [email protected] and volunteer to participate. You have heard both Dotti and Lili speak about just how much it means to these men to be shown compassion – it is heart-warming.

November and December Happenings and Calendars are included – be sure to take a look at the extra worship and fellowship opportunities available to all of us.

I praise God for your faithfulness. May you all have a blessed Thanksgiving.

Faithfully yours, Karin Topp, Council President

GOD, GRACE, GENEROSITY AND GRATITUDE “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16 God’s amazing Generosity has touched and shaped all of us. As a leader, God, has shown us the power of generosity. In turn, we give and share, because we are a Generous people. Our Generosity as individuals and as a congregation is the best validation that we as Christians believe what we profess about God, faith, the Bible, and eternity. Goals of Stewardship: To preserve, maintain, and operate our beautiful church and the surrounding properties. How to Meet Our Goal: By making a financial commitment to Our Church and continuing to honor our commitment to our church and our remarkable community. Result: Our commitment will help show our trust in our new pastor and will help beautify Zion for the Two Hundredth Anniversary. We hope to paint the interior of the church; replace the carpet; paint the exterior of the church; improve the landscaping; and upgrade the driveway. Together we can change lives through our Generosity. Our future: And to make certain that Zion Lutheran Church, Saddle River will remain for many generations to come and worship and be generous to others. Pledge cards will be collected until Sunday, November 24th. Place them in the offering plate or mail to the church office. Thank you for your generosity.

FEED THE NORTHEAST 2019

Zion has designated St. Paul’s Men’s Shelter in Paterson to benefit from this worthy event.

We will begin collecting 500 non-perishable food items on Sunday, October 20th. We will continue collecting until Sunday, November 2. The collection will be given to the Shelter’s Food Pantry that they have on site. Items may be brought to church or dropped off at the Fellowship Hall – Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 9-11 AM. You may also leave your items by the door to the Hall underneath the overhang/on the bench.

Once we complete the collection of the 500 food items, Thrivent will award $500 to the Shelter! The Shelter was so grateful for our generosity in 2018--let's make it happen again!

Please email Chip Antonelli: [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to help and thank you all for your support!

The last Sunday for collection is Sunday, November 3rd.
