1. What is Tropical Semester Program?

Tropical Semester is a tailored-made program specially designed for international students who are keen on study and research of the environment, agriculture, soil, aquaculture, economics, education, culture, language, and livelihood, etc. of a tropical country like Vietnam (especially the South).

English is the main language of instruction. Some courses are available in French. Students are free to select any modules/ courses that they prefer. The program is available all year round.

Tropical Semester creates and enhances mutual cooperation and relationship between CTU and universities that are located in non-tropical regions, or in regions where environmental conditions differ from those in Mekong Delta.

Tropical Semester introduces its learners to different ecological and cultural regions in Mekong Delta and throughout Vietnam and provides them with information on diverse tropical regions outside of Vietnam.

Tropical Semester is an excellent program for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in exploring and understanding a new country like Vietnam. The credits offered are also transferable to their home universities. Over the past five years, CTU has received more than 200 students from the US, Japan, Finland, Australia, etc, to undertake the program.

2. Students housing:

There are multiple options for international students with varieties of accommodation nearby the university.

( CTU dormitory

- Located in the center of our main campus of the university. The rooms are equipped with: fridge, washing machine, wireless internet, bed, chair and desk.

( Hotel

- Varieties of hotels or hostels locate in the center of the city and take 5 to 10 minutes from/to the university by bike.

(Homestay

- Homestay programs arrange for international students to live with local families in Can Tho City. In a homestay program, you will typically have your own room, but join the family for meals and take part in their normal daily routine. In most cases, host families tend to be families that have younger or teenage children themselves. Host families often choose to offer homestays because its a great way for their own children to meet with international students and be exposed to Vietnamese culture.

3. Students activities:

Students come from abroad for shorter or longer period can joint the social, cultural events at the university to enhance interaction between Can Tho University students and foreign students outside the classroom environment; to expose them to Vietnamese culture and traditions.

A diverse program of social activities, sport competition and university presentations has been set up in collaboration with the Youth Union.
