The Group employs over 9,000 people in more than 150 centres across the UK, including nine major printing sites. Trinity Mirror’s strategic goal is to build a growing multi-platform media business, by developing and sustaining strong positions across print and digital, through products and services which meet the needs of customers, both readers and advertisers. Client Situation Trinity Mirror had invested in a new state-of-the-art Tier IV resilient Data Centre in the midlands which was pivotal to supporting the increasing I.T demands of the business. Whilst the main core of the Data Centre was delivered as part of the overall design & build project, Trinity Mirror were looking for a partner to install the I.T infrastructure within the facility. Trinity Mirror was faced with numerous challenges on a technical front. Essential to the success of the new Data Centre was the need for high bandwidth IP infrastructure that could deliver multiple services across the floor of the data centre. Trinity Mirror selected midlands based Data Centre and I.T Cabling specialist, Workspace Technology as the preferred partner to deploy I.T infrastructure services. Category 6A 10Gig The initial scope of the project was to deploy in excess of 2000 Cat6A 10Gigabit copper links and over 150 x 50/125 OM3 grade fibre optical circuits. Workspace Technology selected Belden’s 10GX high performance Category 6A solution which was able to meet Trinity Mirrors stringent technical criteria. Belden 10GX is a system developed around a series of dynamic enabling technologies to ensure the highest level of alien crosstalk isolation and the best performance margins for a channel extending up to 625 MHz. The Belden 10GX Gigabit Ethernet solution provided technological leadership, performance headroom and testing `under the most stringent conditions. Workspace Technology are one of the UK’s leading Certified Systems Integrators (CSV’s), working closely with Belden over a number of years. The installation was based on overhead routing to a design created by the Trinity Mirror I.T Team. Workspace Technology’s engineers ensured the highest standards were maintained throughout the entire installation process. OM3 grade fibre optical cable was installed throughout the data centre to ensure high level transmission performance. Cold Aisle Corridor solutions

Trinity Mirror plc is one of the UK's largestnewspaper publishers, with an award winningportfolio of more than 350 media brands includingfive national, and over 150 regional newspaperswith in excess of 200 websites.

The Group employs over 9,000 people in more than150 centres across the UK, including nine majorprinting sites. Trinity Mirror’s strategic goal is tobuild a growing multi-platform media business, bydeveloping and sustaining strong positions acrossprint and digital, through products and serviceswhich meet the needs of customers, both readersand advertisers.

Client SituationTrinity Mirror had invested in a new state-of-the-art Tier IV resilientData Centre in the midlands which was pivotal to supporting theincreasing I.T demands of the business. Whilst the main core of theData Centre was delivered as part of the overall design & build project,Trinity Mirror were looking for a partner to install the I.T infrastructurewithin the facility.

Trinity Mirror was faced with numerous challenges on a technical front.Essential to the success of the new Data Centre was the need for highbandwidth IP infrastructure that could deliver multiple services acrossthe floor of the data centre.

Trinity Mirror selected midlands based Data Centre and I.T Cablingspecialist, Workspace Technology as the preferred partner to deploy I.Tinfrastructure services.

Category 6A 10GigThe initial scope of the project was to deploy in excess of 2000Cat6A 10Gigabit copper links and over 150 x 50/125 OM3 gradefibre optical circuits.

Workspace Technology selected Belden’s 10GX high performanceCategory 6A solution which was able to meet Trinity Mirrors stringenttechnical criteria.

Belden 10GX is a system developed around a series of dynamicenabling technologies to ensure the highest level of alien crosstalkisolation and the best performance margins for a channel extendingup to 625 MHz. The Belden 10GX Gigabit Ethernet solution providedtechnological leadership, performance headroom and testing `underthe most stringent conditions.

Workspace Technology are one of the UK’s leading Certified SystemsIntegrators (CSV’s), working closely with Belden over a number ofyears.

The installation was based on overhead routing to a design createdby the Trinity Mirror I.T Team. Workspace Technology’s engineersensured the highest standards were maintained throughout the entireinstallation process.

OM3 grade fibre optical cable was installed throughout the datacentre to ensure high level transmission performance.

Equipment CabinetsA total of 54 x 600mm/800mm x 1050mm deep 42U server andcommunication cabinets were required. UK manufactured Dataracks303 system was selected to deliver a cost effective venderindependent heavy duty (1500Kg) flexible rack solution. The cabinetswere configured with perforated front and rear doors to ensuremaximum airflow. These were deployed in a traditional hot and coldaisle configuration.

Workspace Technology fitted the Planafil blanking panel systems toprevent hot air recirculation along with full cable management and topentry brush systems to allow for power and data inter-cabinetconnectivity.

Cold Aisle CorridorIt was clear due to server equipment densities that the supply andinstallation of the “Cold Aisle Corridor” technology would deliverreduced CO2 emissions, improve “Data Centre InfrastructureEfficiency” (DCiE) and enhance green credentials for Trinity Mirror.

Like most data centres, Hot Aisle / Cold Aisle cabinet alignment wasin operation, whereby the cool air is supplied via perforated floor tilesin front of the cabinet. This air is directed into the cabinets throughperforated doors where server fans force air through to the rear doorsto exit into the hot aisle.

In this traditional configuration air recirculation occurs which leads toa substantial decline of the efficiency of the system. The maximumcapacity of a traditional hot aisle/ cold aisle configuration is effectivelylimited to 3/4Kw per cabinet due to this recirculation effect.

The deployment of “Cold Aisle Corridor” technology improves theperformance of the hot and cold aisle configuration. The system isbased on the principle of complete separation of hot and cold airflows which leads to significant improvements in efficiency.

Workspace Technology designed and installed a customised “ColdAisle Corridor” solution for Trinity Mirror as part of the project.
