DO YOU HAVE A WHISPER ? PSSSST........

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!Dear Thomasville, place of my heart,

WhenI firstmovedhere I waslonely andunconnected.I admiredyourmossdrap

impersonal structures and anonymous crowds. I know your streets and buildings by hearts and I ado

people, especially the weird ones, which is actually quite a lot of them.

Your summers are brutal and that first year I swore Id cook alive. But Ive learned to shoo the gna

    How ToSPEND A HALF DAY

    IN THE VILLE...

    {With the spring-like weather we have been having, theres no place like Thomasville!}

" "One of the most commonly used phrases you might hear from a male person is I dont know. Men are

generally prideful and indecisive people. Shopping for men can often be frustrating. Hopefully a few of

these ideas will help your Valentines!

If you really want to please your boyfriend or husband, a ticket to see one of their favorite sports teams

would bea plus. And,if not, I would suggest buyingsome fireworks.Mostguyslove explosions, especially

explosions that are annoyingly loud. What better way to celebrate a touchdown from your own home?It would not be a bad idea giving a Mens Daily Devotional. It can be a book, something for the

Kindle, or even for a smartphone. These devotionals also make very good Facebook status updates!

    A nice watch alwayscomesin handy.We haveclockson phones,computers,tabletstheyreeverywhere.

But fora lotofmen,a watchisntjust aboutfashion. Wejust want a quickwayto see the time.Andwhen

a guyneeds toget outof a stickysituation,it willappearlessrude ashe looksat his brandnewwatch and

    says he has to go!

Last, but not least, a home cooked dinner. Its really easy to grab takeout or go to a really nice restaurant

to celebrate. However, so much time is spent waiting, driving, and being around other people. Find a

babysitter if needed, and have a quiet romantic dinner at home. if you want extra brownie points, make

sure thebabysitter isalsothe parents ofone ofyourchildsfriends. That waytheycan spendthe nightwith

them, and the romance can last all night! Jon Towns

LoveMe, LoveMy HorseMy friends know that if they cant find me at

home, they can find me at the barn. Ive been

called horsey, horse-crazy and just plain

crazy. I spend lots of time in the saddle, and

lots of time getting ready for fox hunting.

Some people spend their time at the gym, some spend it

shopping. I choose to spend mine with my horses. My horses

have taught me a lot: hard work pays off, patience is a virtue,

and you cannot take short cuts to success.

I try not to talk about horses around my non-horsey

friends. They dont want to hear about so and sos horse-

capades or where they went hunting. But sometimes I

forget they dont love horses like I do. And frankly, maybe

thats Ok. How many hours did I spend listening to my

friends chat about their babies and their feeding and

napping schedules? I smiled and listened. One night at

dinner, I listened to five women discuss their childs potty

training woes...for hours. And I get it...that is what was most

important to them in their lives at that time.

Well friends, my horses are important to me. And I spend

more time with them than I do my own family. Horses are

not just a hobby, they are a passion. Riding my horses is my

therapy for lifes problems. It is a way to spend more hours

outdoors. A way to slow down and think. So the next time you

hear me talking about my horses, ask me if you can come ride

with me. You might just learn something. Leslie

maybe I dont trust you. And if you do like dogs, welcome to my pack.

too old for love?Last week I had an epiphany. It hit me like a foul ball. As I was dropping off the latest issue of the Townie, I ran into a gentlemanhat one of my friends had suggested I have a date with. He is such a nice person, very active in the local community andperfectly

ot my type. I exchanged niceties with him and went on my way. As I was sliding back into my car,the realization hit me. Im not

ttracted to him. Or any other man I have met recently.

As I drove around town running errands, I thought about it. Are there just no men that ARE my type? Am I that picky? How can

still be single? There are plenty of nice guys around.

After much more thought and introspection that day, I think I know the answer, and here it is: I am HAPPY. And I did not get

hat way by waiting around for Mr. Perfect to stroll into my life. Instead, I have taken life by the horns and ridden it as fast as I can.

After high school, I knew I would not return home. I was determined to do something different... something to make myself dif-

erent than many of my friends.

After college, I informed my parents that I was moving to Georgia. They were stunned. How could you even THINK of leaving

Texas? When I arrived in Savannah, I was completely alone, except for my dog. Slowly I made great friends in my graduate classes.

One set of friends lead to another set of friends, and so on. I dated on and off, even having one serious relationship. I discovered

ver time that he was an utter cheapskate, anti-social and had cankles. That just wouldnt do! He also resented my dog. I was in my

wenties and in my mind I was way too young to settle down. Many people get married in their twenties, have a family, and live

lissfully ever after. I just wasnt one of them.

n my thirties I should have been looking for Mr. Right, but I was too busy moving (literally) and shakin...and traveling and rid-

ng. Dating was fun, but heaven forbid I get serious about a man! He might tell me he did not approve of my carefree lifestyle, or

hat he thought horses were dangerous. Instead, I surrounded myself with old and new friends. And got another dog!

ast forward to the here and now...my forties. I am surrounded by friends and their fabulous husbands. Some of their husbands arewonderful and I am jealous of them...until...one friend complains about their hubbs snoring or their junk collection. Their fishing

rips, their quirky habits, their dirty bathroom sinks. I am now very, very keen on what hard work a marriage truly is. It is com-

romise...not just staying home instead of going out with the girls, or having dinner with the in-laws, but washing his shorts and

    oving his Mother.

want a loving, meaningful relationship. I know he is out there. Im still holding out for the perfect man...perfect for only me.

know he exists, maybe right now he is busy looking me for me too. Leslie

But we can do smallthings with great love.

    Mother Teresa

Your marriage is the single most important relationship in your life, and hopefully one of the

longest and most rewarding. I recently met with Dusty Hart from Kalon Counseling to find out

more about his services. Kalon is a local counseling service that specializes in marital, mens and

parent/childcounseling. Allrelationships needa tune-up, dontbe skeered! Dustyis verywarm and

friendly and easy to talk to. He is genuine and I feel that he truly cares for people. You know that

I LOVE Thomasville, and I want to see it full of LOVE.

Q: Where do you start with marriage counseling?

A: For some couples, they are seeking a tune-up and want to make a good marriage better. For

others, they are in a difficult and painful place and just want to know if their marriage has a chance. I start wherev

couple is at when they arrive at my office.

    Q: Who needs marriage counseling?

A: Absolutely everyone can benefit from marriage counseling. Whether a couple is newly engaged and wants to start

marriage on the right track, or a couple has been married for 30 years. Marriage counseling is a great way to inve

yourself and your spouse, as well as an option that could possibly save a marriage headed toward divorce.

Q: Is it all painful, or is some of it fun?

A: Pain is not fun but relief and healing are a whole lot of fun. Many couples are surprised at how quickly they be

experience relief and start seeing immediate results from very small changes.

Q: What do people hope to accomplish, and what do you hope for them?

A: In a word, connection. We are neurobiologically wired and sociologically created to connect in significant relation

with other people, especially our spouses. I hope that the couples I work with find appreciation for the uniqueness of

spouse and are able to find deep satisfaction in their marriage.

Q: How often do clients visit you?

A: Is there a standard or normal amount of sessions you recommend to start? I usually start out seeing a couple once a

for 2-3 sessions and then move to every-other week. Most couples will benefit from 3-5 sessions to start. Onc

underlying issues or patterns emerge we can re-assess and decide if additional sessions would be helpful.

Q: How do they sign up? How do they know if youre a good fit?

    A: Callme at(229)234-7337andset upanappointment tomeet!Of course,youcanemailme atKalonCounseling@gma

as well. After the initial session most couples will intuitively know whether or not we will work well together.

    Q: Any parting thoughts?

A: The sooner a couple starts counseling the better. According to Dr. John Gottman, the nations foremost research

marriage and parenting, couples seek relationship help an average of 6 years after they begin having problems. G

that half of marriages that end in divorce do so in the first 7 years, the research shows, this is 6 years too late!
