    India Tourism Development

    Corporation (ITDC) In 1965, The GOI under the DOT set up threeseparate corporations Hotel Corporation of IndiaLtd., India Tourism Corporation Ltd., IndiaTourism Transport Undertaking Ltd. based on

    recommendations of Jha Committee (1963) [Ad-hocCommittee on Tourism] that public sector shouldassume a more active and positive role in tourism.

    Main functions of theses corporations were toconstruct and manage hotels in public sector, producematerials for tourist publicity, provide transportfacilities to tourists.

    The Government merged the three corporations on 1st

    October 1966 to form a public sector undertaking

    under the aegis of DOT

    Corporation (ITDC) The Ashoka Hotels Ltd., Janapath Hotels Ltd., Lodi

    and Ranjit hotels were amalgamated with ITDC fromMarch 1970.

    The amalgamated Company known as India TourismDevelopment Corporation Ltd. Came into being from28 March 1970

    Today, ITDC provides a complete package of tourism

    services including accommodation, catering, travel-related services, event management, publicity, hotelconsultancy, duty free shops, in-house travel agency,entertainment and shopping.

    The Airports Authority of India (AAI) was formed on1st April 1995 by merging the International AirportsAuthority of India and the National Airports Authority

    It was formed with a view to accelerate the integrateddevelopment, expansion and modernization of theoperational, terminal and cargo facilities at the airportsin the country conforming to international standards.

    AAI manages 11 International Airports, 89 Domestic

    Airports and 26 Civil Enclaves. AAI controls and manages the entire Indian Airspace
