My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Twenty Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

As we hear the Gospel proclamation today it seems that we have progressed so very little in understanding in all these centu-ries since Jesus’ death and resurrection and ascension into heaven. In the midst of Jesus teaching his disciples how we will be rejected and put to death...they were arguing about who would be more important in the kingdom. They truly failed to per-ceive what Jesus was teaching them.

Likewise, with us, we know that following Jesus means to take up our cross and follow him. But somehow, we often feel that Jesus must have referred to other folks… not me.

In what ways do I neglect or reject the cross of Christ in my life?

Take time to refresh the life of the Spirit that has been given you through baptism. Then witness your faith like disciples and believers throughout the ages. Be assured of my prayers for you and for your dear ones. May the good Lord bless you with wisdom, health, and peace. Please pray for me. In Christ, Fr. Alexis Ibarra

Vigésimo Quinto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

Escuchando la proclamación del Evangelio de hoy nos damos cuenta lo poco que hemos progresado en estos siglos desde la muerte, resurrección y ascensión de Jesús al cielo. En medio de la enseñanza de Jesús a sus discípulos que lo van a repudiar y lo van a crucificar...ellos discutían quien iba a ser más importante en el reino. Definitivamente que no comprendieron lo que Je-sús les estaba diciendo.

Al igual, nosotros, aunque sabemos que para seguir a Jesús tenemos que cargar nuestra cruz seguirlo a Él ...tantas veces pensa-mos que Jesús dijo eso a otros, pero no a mi...pues yo soy más especial.

¿En qué formas somos negligentes o rechazamos la cruz de Cristo en nuestra vida?

Tomen tiempo para meditar y refrescar la vida del Espíritu que se les ha dado en su bautismo. Entonces den testimonio de su fe, así como lo han hecho los cristianos en cada siglo. St. John Chrysostom’s Together in Mission goal is $46,165.00. “Together, let’s make a deference for those in need especially after this most challenging year.” Last year with all the challenges our community was able to give a total of $41,227.40. People of all ages and all different talents. Whoever you are, don’t hesitate to step forward to volunteer – in a new way or to resume something you already were doing before the pandem-ic. Our parish functions only because you have always shown up in such generous ways. We need Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Ushers. At some masses we have sufficient volunteers but at others, we are in need. Your assistance is greatly appreciated and you will find that serving the Lord is a great fulfillment. All training will be provided. Stop by the Rectory for an application.

We are also in need of Altar servers. If you have a child in the 4th grade and up and that have already received their First Holy Communion, he is eligible to become an Altar sever. Please stop by the Rectory to fill out an application.
