Wide Variety of Easy
Food Sources
But They Can Create
Problems for Businesses,
Both Property Damage
& Illness
Here Are the Top 6
Ways They Can
Damage Your Business
1. Physical Harm
Seagulls are monogamous living with their mates for 30 years +.
They Breed in Spring and their chicks fledge over the summer.
As their chicks begin to fledge, the Seagull’s territorial and protective instincts kick in.
They swoop, dive-bomb & vomit on anyone or any animal that they see as a threat to their young. !
This creates fear and anxiety for the public.
There have even been reports of Seagulls attacking people, pets and children.
2. Roof Damage
Seagulls have high nest fidelity, returning to the same nest year on year.
If they choose to nest on your business’ roof, costly damage can occur.
Seagulls love to pick at moss and slates for nesting, loosening them, causing them to fall off or require replacing.
3. Damage to Chimneys
and Flues
Gas flues and chimneys can be blocked by debris brought to the nesting site.
This can prevent proper ventilation and put the
health of customers and staff at risk.
4. Gutter Damage
Seagulls like to keep their nests warm & maintained through the spring.
As they pick & throw away debris they can
clog up your property’s gutters.
As adequate drainage is prevented, water damage and penetrating damp can occur.
5. Health & Hygiene
On top of their aggressive behaviour Seagulls can bring health and hygiene problems to your business.
City Seagulls no long feed on natural sources.
They now eat from landfill sites, street litter
and business refuge.
This can bring bacteria & infectious diseases to your business.
These include:
E.Coli - leading to painful gastroenteritis and septicaemia
Fungal Infections - Histoplasmosis & Cryptoplasmosis
And:
Salmonella - leading to salmonellosis and in some cases death
Orthinosis - a.k.a parrot fever, meningitis or coma
6. Lost Reputation
If there are Seagulls on your business’ property, their aggressive behaviour and ‘mess’ can put your customers off.
Their avoidance may lead to loss of revenue or even worse, a loss of your business reputation.
