Introducing Safe PST Backup
Safe PST Backup is an automated backup solution for OST* and PST files (Microsoft Outlook Personal Storage Table files). It
is a downloadable PC application that allows you to back up Microsoft Outlook data files to any folder location on your PC, your
network shared folder or external drive regardless whether Outlook is running or not.
Most of our competitor’s software is backing up Outlook by simply copying PST files or making their shadow copies. If Microsoft
Outlook is open while this takes place, it may lead to many problems. PST files are copied without the latest changes because
Outlook locks up the PST file or because the backup software waits for Outlook to close. Shadow copies of PST files include
information that has been saved after the latest close of Microsoft Outlook only. Safe PST Backup uses sophisticated technology
to access Outlook items directly and backs up the latest changes (Incremental backup) in the background even if Outlook is open
and you are working on it.
We offer you Safe PST Backup Administration and Monitoring Module***, which is a corporate solution designed as a time-saving
backup process monitoring and management tool, which enables the system administrator work with more than 2 000 work-
stations at once.
It is an easy to use, Free** tool to backup and archives email and other data to the native Microsoft Outlook PST file format.

OF THE DEFECTIVE SERVICE. FOR ANY BREACH OF THE SUPPORT WARRANTY, IF SEPARATELY PURCHASED,
THE CUSTOMER'S EXCLUSIVE REMEDY, AND 4TEAM CORPORATIONS'S ENTIRE LIABILITY, SHALL BE THE
REPERFORMANCE OF THE DEFICIENT SERVICES, OR IF 4TEAM CORPORATION CANNOT SUBSTANTIALLY
CORRECT A BREACH IN A COMMERCIALLY REASONABLE MANNER, CUSTOMER MAY END THE RELEVANT
SERVICES AND RECOVER THE FEES PAID TO 4TEAM CORPORATION FOR THE DEFICIENT SERVICES.
SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE
MAINTENANCE PROVIDES CUSTOMER OF A COVERED PRODUCT WITH SOFTWARE BUG FIXES AND UPDATES
GENERALLY MADE AVAILABLE BY 4TEAM CORPORATION TO THEIR CUSTOMERS. SUPPORT AND FREE
MAINTENANCE WILL BE PROVIDED TO CUSTOMERS WITH SOFTWARE VERSIONS PURCHASED USUALLY NOT
MORE THAN A YEAR AGO AND ELIGIBLE TO APPLY. TO GET SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE AFTER USING THE
SOFTWARE FOR MORE THAN ONE YEAR, CUSTOMERS MUST PURCHASE SOFTWARE UPGRADES OR/AND
SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE CONTRACT. FOR DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT THE TERMS OF BASIC
TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR A PARTICULAR PRODUCT, OR ANY OTHER SUPPORT OPTIONS PLEASE CONTACT US

TERM AND TERMINATION
THIS LICENSE IS EFFECTIVE UNTIL TERMINATED. CUSTOMER MAY TERMINATE THIS LICENSE AT ANY TIME BY
DESTROYING ALL COPIES OF SOFTWARE INCLUDING ANY DOCUMENTATION. THIS LICENSE WILL TERMINATE
IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT NOTICE FROM 4TEAM CORPORATION IF CUSTOMER FAILS TO COMPLY WITH ANY
PROVISION OF THIS LICENSE. UPON TERMINATION, CUSTOMER MUST DESTROY AND/OR DEACTIVATE ALL
LICENSED COPIES OF SOFTWARE.
SURVIVAL. ALL SECTIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT EXCEPT LICENSE GRANT, NO USE, SUPPORT AND
MAINTENANCE, SHALL SURVIVE ANY TERMINATION HEREOF.
GENERAL
THIS LICENSE SHALL BE GOVERNED BY AND CONSTRUED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF
FLORIDA, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AS IF PERFORMED WHOLLY WITHIN THE STATE AND WITHOUT GIVING
EFFECT TO THE PRINCIPLES OF CONFLICT OF LAW. IF ANY PORTION HEREOF IS FOUND TO BE VOID OR

Installation
Prior to installation:
1. You need to have Windows® Administrator rights in order to install Safe PST Backup for Microsoft® Outlook®
.
2. Please check that you are running Microsoft Outlook 2002 (SP-2), 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016 or 2019 as Safe
PST Backup is incompatible with any Outlook version prior to 2002/XP (SP-2); check other System Require-
ments as well. You can update your Microsoft Outlook version here.
3. Download the latest version of Safe PST Backup setup file from the Safe PST Backup website and save it to an
easy to find place.
Installation steps:
1. Close Microsoft® Outlook® and all open programs.
2. Install the previously downloaded product by opening/clicking the "setup" file from the location where you saved it. Fol-
low the instruction on the screen.
3. Start Safe PST Backup.
4. You are now ready to start using the program!
If installation was interrupted or incomplete
...the problem might be related to Microsoft Outlook integrity. Prior to reinstalling Safe PST Backup, please perform the fol-
lowing:
1. Uninstall Product (Start-> Control Panel-> Add or Remove Programs).
2. Use the Detect and Repair feature in Microsoft Outlook Help menu to make sure it is operating properly. You may need the ori-
ginal Microsoft Office® or Microsoft Outlook CD-Rom. If Detect and Repair was unsuccessful, please address the issue to
Microsoft support team or IT Professionals. Installation of 4Team software will not be possible until Microsoft Outlook
integrity is restored.
Please keep in mind that the "Detect and Repair" feature is not related to our software and recommended to be performed
each time you experience functional problems with Microsoft Outlook.
Please refer to our FAQ & Troubleshooting section of the HELP documentation.
For IT Professionals in order to restore Microsoft Outlook integrity:
Use the “Detect and Repair ” feature in your Microsoft Outlook (you may need the original Microsoft Office or Microsoft
Outlook CD-Rom). If this feature is successfully fulfilled, you may proceed to the next step. If not, we recommend that you

Main Safe PST Backup Dialog and Notification Area Icon
The main Safe PST Backup dialog has the following sections:
1 ) Destination folder path.
This is an important parameter that defines the location where your Outlook PST file should be backed up to. If you setup multiple
profiles, the next scheduled backup location will be shown instead.
Note: This location is required. If it is not specified yet (as shown in the figure 1a below), you must specify it in order for Safe
PST Backup to work.
1b ) To specify, the destination folder click with your mouse anywhere inside the input field.
1c ) Right-clicking the input field opens a pop-up menu with the following options:
Explore – opens the destination folder in Windows Explorer;
Change… – opens a dialog specifying the destination folder (same as left-click);
Copy – copies the destination folder path to the clipboard.
2 ) Control backup process buttons:
Start Backup – starts the backup process;
Stop Backup – cancels the backup process immediately.
3 ) Information about the last and next backup processes:
Last backup – shows date and time when the latest backup was completed and “(None)” in case there were no completed
backup processes yet;
Next backup scheduled on – shows date and time when the next backup is scheduled and “(None)” in case the backup is
not scheduled (e.g., option “Start backup” is set to “Only manually”).
4 ) Current status of Safe PST Backup.
5 ) The Options button opens a dialog with additional options.
Note: The Options button is unavailable while the backup process is in progress. Waiting until the backup is complete is recom-
mended. Click “Stop Backup” to cancel the process.
6 ) The Close button allows hiding the Safe PST Backup main dialog, which can be opened again by double-clicking the Win-
dows notification area icon (see figure 8 ).
7 ) Ads banner is shown only in the Free version of Safe PST Backup. To remove it, you need to purchase the Enterprise edition.

Note: The Start Backup and Stop Backup buttons are unavailable in the main window, but you can Start and Stop the backup pro-
cess from the pop-up menu, accessible via the notification area icon (see figure 8 ).
System Administrator can also hide the user interface completely. In this case Safe PST Backup Enterprise Edition works
without the notification area icon, any windows, warnings, etc. You cannot Start or Stop the backup process either.

Options Window
1. Set a manual Backup to manage the backup process manually each time.
2. Set an automatic Backup and choose scheduling options to run the backup automatically.
3. Set Backup intervals that are convenient for you.
4. Configure to keep the history of full backup copies.
5. List of PST files to back up. Uncheck the PST files you don’t want to back up. You are able to Select / Deselect all folders at
once or to choose the folders separately.
6. You have option to include or exclude the newly created folders from the backup (Backup new folders option) into the Folder Fil-
ter dialog as well.
7. Check “FolderToBackup” if you want to backup only the specific folders. This parameter overrides all other settings.
8. Check “FolderClassToBackup” if you want to choose what folder type should be backed up only, disregarding all other settings.
9. Check the box next to "Show Exchange folders in the list" and choose to back up OST files as well. This option is only avail-
able in the Enterprise .
10. On the "Other" tab, select the connection type to specify settings of connection test:
- If "Always perform backup in case on this connection type" is selected, the connection test would not run when this con-
nection type is detected;
- If "Test network connection before performing backup" is selected, the connection speed will be tested each time. Select if
you want to prompt user or skip the backup in case connection is slow;
- If "Skip backup in case on this connection type" is selected, backup will not be performed when this specific connection type
is detected.
11. Set to skip or perform backup process in case this type is detected.
12. Choose if you want to be prompted in case slow connection detected.
Note: Only PST files of your default Outlook profile are shown in the Safe PST Backup Free . To back up other PST files you
should use the Safe PST Backup Enterprise (as described in the Safe PST Backup Enterprise Administrator Guide).

Setting of Backup History and Retention Options
In this dialog the schedule for creating new full backup copies is set. At a scheduled time the application will create another copy
of the backup file, keeping the previously used backup file. This allows keeping several backup history copies.
In the “Automatic Backup Retention Options” section the number of last backup files to keep and the maximal size that should be
used for backup copies may be set. If enabled, once the maximal number of files or the maximal size of all files is reached when a
new backup file is created according to the schedule, the oldest file from previous backup copies is automatically deleted.

The Admin Tool can be installed on any network computer, so the backup can be monitored from any workstation of the network.
To add an unlimited number of computers to the tracking list at once by importing from CSV file or Active Directory go to: File ->
Import from -> CSV file.../Active Directory.
In case you are importing the list from an Active Directory, select computers you want to import. All the client computers will be
shown in one tracking list. In the tracking list you can see:
the current status icon,
device/name,
profile,
next scheduled backup time,
last successful backup time,
backup location, backup storage used,
the number of backed-up PST files.
The current status icon by the device name(1) shows the current status of the workstation The following status types are shown:
It's optional to filter the list by selecting criteria from the drop down list at the top of the window(2).
You can search for workstations, users or profiles by typing the name in the search field(3).
Actions that can be applied to the workstations in the list:
"Start Backup now" to start backup on any workstation/profile at any time (4);
"Open backup location" to access the location where backed-up files are stored (5);
"View history" to see the detailed history of backup status changes (6).
"Reports" to create a report of all current backup status types (7). It can be saved or printed.
To add a new workstation to the tracking list: go to "File" -> "Add new workstation" -> type the device name in the field. The
workstation status will be shown after refreshing the Track List.
In case a workstation is not yet detected by the monitoring service, its status will be unknown until the first status from that
workstation received. If Safe PST Backup is used on several user accounts on the same workstation, all of them will be listed
separately in this list.

Settings… - manage settings of the currently selected profile. Different settings and backed up files can be set up for each

Browse… - set the backup folder of the selected profile.

Delete – will delete current profile.
