SHOOTING

The Craighead Trap Shooting Team of Lauryn Howard (captain), Ruby Brown, Eva Harris, Maggie Winter, Kate Trimble, Jazmin Fuller, Lané Crisp and Kaitlin Watson attended the North Island and New Zealand Championships in Hamilton in the school holidays. Over three days of intense competition from over 320 shooters, it was pleasing to see the CDS team produced some fine performances, with the following results.

Lauryn Howard—3rd NI Single Rise, 3rd NZ Kilwell Postal individual, 1st NI Skeet, 3rd NZ Skeet, 3rd NZ Fish and Game Regional, and selection in the South Island Team which defeated the North Island. Ruby Brown—2nd NZ Skeet, 1st NZ Kilwell Postal individual, 3rd NZ Fish and Game Regional.

The Craighead team of Lauryn, Ruby and Maggie was placed second in NI Teams, second in NZ Teams (after a shoot off for the title) and first in NZ Kilwell Postal Teams. In the NZ Kilwell Postal shoot, the team of Kate, Lané and Kaitlin was placed third. It was pleasing to see Eva shooting consistently and achieving personal bests at National events. First year shooters, Jazmin and Kate, also achieved personal bests, with Kate finding herself in two shoot-offs for medals.

The team would like to pass on special thanks to Robert Harris for his outstanding assistance and support this year. Thank you also to family supporters who attended these events.

Craighead had a number of representative players in both teams and Roseanna Porter was also selected to umpire for South Canterbury in Palmerston North, as the Collier team’s umpire. Both teams had successful tournaments, with the U15’s finishing with a well-deserved third place for the Bronze Medal at their competition.

Collier Trophy team members from Craighead were Nicole Arundell, Alex Butler-Baird, Matilda Hayman, Olivia Jackson, Elsie Love, Tessa Rolleston and Jemma Watson.

Craighead’s South Canterbury U15 team members were Tayla Cvitanich, Kate Harvey, Anna Hayward, Tori Stonehouse and Kaitlin Watson.

Theatresports is an active improvisation group consisting of six Year 10 students who meet once a week to improve their improvisation and drama skills. We participate in games that challenge us to think on our feet and work as a team. Theatresports helps with creative thinking and collaboration; it builds confidence whilst also entertaining people. It's a supportive environment where you can try new things and not be afraid of judgement. Next year, we are hoping to compete in a Regional Theatresports competition in Christchurch. Theatresports is currently run by Mrs Towle, Head of Drama, and Miss Chappell. We are looking to recruit new members to the team so, if you are interested, please talk to Mrs Towle or Miss Chappell and come and join the fun!
