MaterialsSOLID WOOD AND VENEERWe use woods and tropical timber exclusively from sustainable forestry which are certified in accordance with FSC and PEFC.Solid wood is a natural product and reveals the character and history of the tree, which may have been growing for 50 to 100years. Small knots, intergrowths and fine cracks are natural characteris-tics. Wood is “living” and reacts to fluctuations in roomtemperature and humidity. A balanced indoor climate, but not too dry, is recommended. It is normal for wood to change its colour due to the effect of light. This is proof of the natural product’s authenticity.

BEECHFor wooden furniture and components we use A- and B-grade beech from European countries. We process select, unsteamed light beech wood. Due to the effect of light, the beech takes on a warm, slightly reddish-yellow tint over time.

BLACK CHERRY (AMERICAN CHERRY)The black cherry wood processed by us comes from North America. It has an orange-reddish to reddish-brown tint and a mattfinish. Unlike European cherry, the wood darkens noticeably. Typical features of the wood are the “gum”, a black gummy deposit in the growth rings, the intergrowth and the tightly intergrown knots.

OAKThe colour of oak ranges from honey yellow to beige. Distinctive pores and the typical grain give oak a calm or lively look.

ASHThis wood comes from European forests. It has a whitish-brown tint (without core wood). The pores are similar to those of oak.

AMERICAN WALNUTWe use woods predominantly from North America. They have a marked structure and a harmonious colouring.

IROKOIroko is a hard and durable wood. It is weather-proof even without care and virtually resistant to fungus and rot. Over time it gains a light grey, silver-coloured patina. The wooden parts are delivered with one coat of oil. We recommend treating the wood with teak oil once or twice a year.

OTHER WOODSOther woods are available on request, such as: European cherry, French walnut, pear, birch, alder, Canadian maple, Wengé, and others. Please contact the Service Team for prices and availability.

SURFACE TREATMENTWood has open pores and surface treatment protects it against staining and soiling. The special properties of the individual types of wood have to be considered.

OILAll wood types we use are suitable for oiling. For oiling, the surface is finely sanded and oiled twice with a pad. If desired, the customer can retreat the surface.

STAINED SURFACESMost woods can be stained in a variety of tints. They retain their natural grain structure but can be adapted to different environments. Even with the most careful processing, slight colour variations can always occur. Our furniture is treated with an environmentally friendly hydro varnish containing less than 2% solvent.

We offer beech as solid wood and veneer varnished white at the following additional charges:Chairs 8% additional chargeTables 6% additional charge

Special stain colours entail an additional charge:Order quantity 1 – 25 10 % additional chargeOrder quantity 26 – 50 5 % additional chargeOrder quantity > 50 no additional charge

We can produce colour and stain samples that are not part of our stan-dard collection and size upon request and for an extra charge.

LACQUERED SURFACESTransparent lacquer: normally our furniture is treated with water-based lacquer or two-component lacquer. These surfaces are largely easy to care for, resistant to staining and fairly scratch-proof. The UV-resistant lacquer also slows down the darkening of the wood. The protective film of the lacquer protects the wood from soiling. Coloured lacquer: most wood types can be lacquered in RAL colours or by the NCS colour system. The structure and grain of the wood are complete-ly concealed (except with “open pore lacquering” on oak or ash).Structured coating: the wood’s structure and grain are completely covered. A slight surface results from the lacquer. All the lacquers used by us have a satin finish.Special lacquer colours entail an additional charge:

Order quantity 1 - 25 10% additional chargeOrder quantity 26 - 50 5% additional chargeOrder quantity > 50 no additional charge

TUBULAR STEELWith all tubular steel furniture we use precision tubular steel or DIN-compliant round stock steel. For all cantilever tubular steel chairs and armchairs we use a special spring steel alloy and high tensile preci-sion tubular steel compliant with EN 10305-2 and EN 10305-3 with a thickness of 2.0 mm or 2.5 mm. This high-grade tubular steel guarantees an unlimited cantilever effect. We offer chrome-plated or powder-coated tubular steel.

STAINLESS STEELStainless steel (material 1.43.01) has a smooth, hard surface, which is not treated or coated. Stainless steel is suitable for indoor and outdoor use (in Europe) as well as being very tough and easy to maintain.

ALUMINIUMAluminium elements are either cast or continuously cast depending on the production process.

6

MaterialsSURFACE TREATMENTPowder coating is the electrostatic application of a powder which is mel-ting owing to the effect of heat. It is solvent-free. The metal parts have a satin finish. The colour tone silver aluminium matt can only be achieved on metal and turns the surface silk matt.

Chrome plating gives the metal a durable surface and has an average thickness of 14-18 μ nickel and approx. 0.3 μ chrome onstraight parts (on bends the thickness may be somewhat reduced). The chrome plating is glossy. Matt chrome plating is available on request for an additional charge.

Nickel-plated – layers of 14 – 18 µ nickel are applied with the galvanic process. The special material property of nickel to react to touch entails the development of a natural patina.

Depending on the material, aluminium surfaces can be anodised in an aluminium colour (E6/EV1), high-gloss polished orpowder-coated.

LAMINATEHPL laminate is a duroplastic product consisting of several paper webs that are impregnated with resin and compressed at hightemperature and pressure into a homogenous board. Paper impregnated with melamine resin and a transparent overlay produce an impact-, scratch- and abrasion-proof surface. Further properties include resis-tance to heat and light, disinfectability and resistance to chemicals. Laminates are easy-care. Boards made of solid laminate have a visible black edge.

POLYPROPYLENEThis is a synthetic material with a high resistance to chemicals. Its light-fastness is 7-8.. Polypropylene can be completely recycled and easily disposed of thermally.

FABRICSWe procure our high-quality furniture fabrics from renowned manufactu-rers. All collection fabrics are suitable for contract furniture and have an abrasion value (according to Martindale) no lower than 25,000. The fabric groups vary in material and price.

The individual groups comprise the following:Customer’s own material (com): upholstery for covering with the customer’s own fabric, leather or artificial leather Fabric 1 / fabric group 1: Sahara, Viva, Step/StepMelange, Field, Polo 2, Cava 3Fabric 2 / fabric group 2: Aquarius, Remix, Pro 2, Steelcut 2Fabric 3 / fabric group 3: Divina 3, Divina Melange 2, Steelcut Trio 2, Hallingdahl 65, Chameleon Credo Leather: Leather 1 (“Linea”), leather 2, Pure Materials and natural nappa leather, Pure Material nubuck leather, cowhide, bend leather and buffalo hide REQUIRED FABRICThe required fabric is specified for an order quantity of at least 2 pieces.

CUSTOMER OWN FABRICS (COM)Fabrics sent to us for processing have to be delivered carriage paid to our works, rolled up and in secure packaging, and must include a delivery note indicating the consignment. The indicated fabric requirement is calculated by the selvedge for the processing of plain flat weaves. If this type of cutting is impossible, the necessary additional demand will be requested. In the case of repeat patterned cover fabrics and if reques-ted by raw edge processing, the required fabric has to be calculated beforehand. As a general rule: delivered fabrics are processed without examination of their appropriateness and suitability. We do not assume liability for folds or flaws in the weave or other faults that result from the delivered fabrics. No warranty claims shall exist if it turns out that inap-propriate material was provided. The customer has to carry the extra cost incurred by us, especially return costs, costs for difficult processing, etc.

LEATHERWe only use high-quality cowhide from European countries. It is tanned and dyed under strict environmental conditions.Every hide is checked before processing. As with any natural product, minor irregularities and variations can occur. Our leather is semi-aniline dyed. Owing to the natural suppleness of cowhide, there is a possibility that some crinkling of the material will occur, regardless of the proces-sing method.

LEATHER- PURE MATERIALSThere are two different leather groups, which vary in strength and struc-ture. We offer two more types of leather: a high-quality grained surface nubuck leather and a natural nappa leather. Neither is ground nor embossed or lacquered. All hides come from European countries and are dyed in compliance with the rules of the “Occupational Safety & Health Administration”. This enhances the naturalness of the material. After a short period of time, the upholstered parts react by forming soft folds, which provide the leather with its unique look. Robust seams guarantee exceptional durability and wear resistance of the covers. BUFFALO HIDE: S 33 AND S 34 PURE MATERIALSBuffalo hide is a rough, large-pored leather. A drop of water rubbed on it will be absorbed and will darken the leather. It is robust and durable and over time will take on a slightly glossy patina. Under normal use, the surface can break open slightly and appear a bit lighter but then darkens again – this is intentional and represents no cause for grievances.

BUTT LEATHERFor the S 33 and S 34 cantilevers high-quality butt leather, 3.0 to 3.3 mm thick and reinforced with textile material on the underside, is used.

COWHIDES The cowhides come from European cattle. Their varying markings and hair length are a feature of the natural properties of thishigh-quality material.

MaterialsMESH COVER 1S 33 N, S 34 N modelsThis material is colour-coated polyester mesh, which is fl ame-resistant in compliance with DIN 4102-1, class B2. The mesh is very durable and ri-gid due to heat-sealed cross points. It provides a good level of resistance to UV rays and is easy-care.

MESH COVER 2S 32 N, S 64 N modelsThis material is fully dyed monofi lament polyester mesh, which is tear-proof and offers a high degree of light-fastness. This material is available in black only.

CANE WORK AND WICKERWORKCane work and wickerwork is a natural product and is not dyed or bleached. Irregularities in the structure and colour are part of the natural material. Cane work, also called rattan, grows as a creeper in the tropical rainforests of Indonesia. It consists of individual cane fi bres of varying length which are glued together. The separation of some of the fi bres is unavoidable. If this happens, they can be repaired with standard glue. Please follow the care instructions which are attached to every piece of furniture.New: For chairs that are subject to heavy wear we have developed a new procedure whereby stable, transparent and barely visible mesh is stret-ched underneath the cane work. This procedure is patented and is availa-ble for the S 32 and S 64 models as well as for the bentwood classics.

Further properties include resistance to heat and light, disinfectability and resistance to chemicals. Laminates are easy-care. Boards made of solid laminate have a visible black edge.

The shown laminates only represent a selection of the collection.140 plain-coloured decors and 40 wood reproductions are available.Slight colour differences from the original are possible. We reserve the right to make modifications or changes.

PolypropyleneThis is a synthetic material with a high resistance to chemicals. Its light-fastness is 7-8. Polypropylene can be completely recycled and easily disposed of thermally.

Slight colour differences from the original are possible. We reserve the right to make modifications or changes.

Work

Mesh

Cane work and wickerwork is a natural product and is not dyed or bleached. Irregularities in the structure and colour are part of the natural material. Cane work, also called rattan, grows as a creeper in the tropical rainforests of Indonesia. It consists of individual cane fibres of varying length which are glued together. The separation of some of the fibres is unavoidable. If this happens, they can be repaired with standard glue. Please follow the care instructions which are attached to every piece of furniture.

New: For chairs that are subject to heavy wear we have developed a new procedure whereby stable, transparent and barely visible mesh is stret-ched underneath the cane work. This procedure is patented and is availa-ble for the S 32 and S 64 models as well as for the bentwood classics.

Slight colour differences from the original are possible. We reserve the right to make modifications or changes.

Mesh 1: S 33 N, S 34 N modelsThis material is colour-coated polyester mesh, which is flame-resistant in compliance with DIN 4102-1, class B2. The mesh is very durable and rigid due to heat-sealed cross points. It provides a good level of resistance to UV rays and is easy-care.

Mesh 2: S 32 N, S 64 N modelsThis material is fully dyed monofilament polyester mesh, which is tear-proof and offers a high degree of light-fastness. This material is available in black only.

Slight colour differences from the original are possible. We reserve the right to make modifications or changes.

ADJUSTABLE GLIDERSto adjust the legs in case of floor unevennesses.

ALUMINIUM DYE CASTINGa dye casting method where aluminium is pressed into a preheated mould under high pressure in a liquid or paste consistency.

ALUMINIUM GLASS BEAD BLASTEDthe aluminium is blasted with tiny glass beads and thus is given a matt silver surface.

BENTWOODwood is bent into shape after being softened by steam. Michael Thonet developed the technique for the production of furniture.

BOTTOM SEAMthe bottom seam is the so-called base seam (straight seam) on upholstered furniture.

CURVED LEGS / SABER LEGS version of table legs (models 214, 209 and 233) slightly curved towards the outside.

BUTT LEATHERa plant-died cowhide at least 2.5 mm thick, slightly oiled. Due to the rigidity and thickness, the leather is very durable.

CANTILEVERa cantilever chair is a chair without rear legs; its seat flexes under the weight of a person and slightly lowers in the back.

CHARMEUSEa fleece sewed together with the upholstery, making the chair’s upholstery softer and more durable.

COLD FOAMliquid foam that hardens in a mould and serves as padding.

COMFORT CUSHIONINGa special upholstery in which a charmeuse is sewn in.

COVER FLEECE a protective fleece assures that the bottom of the chair remains clean.
