7th and last child. Parents were Samuel Edison

Jr. & Nancy Elliot Edison. 1854 moved to port Huron,

Mich. He began selling newspapers

when he was twelve years old.

He was known as Alva until his 2nd marriage.

1863 he became an apprentice telegrapher.

1876 he built a laboratory and a machine shop .

1883 observed the Edison effect.
