Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
On my last weekend here at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, I would like to extend to you my gratitude for the gift of this parish community. The Lord has blessed me with a parish community that reflected the Gospel truth of the Father’s love and mercy with the privilege to
serve you for the past two years.
I have come to know so many of you through your faithful-ness, love, generosity, and dedicated service to our parish. I have also come to know you in both joy and sorrow; through baptism, celebrated God’s forgiveness and healing strength, the union of marriage, celebrated, received and adored the Holy Eucharist, and buried our beloved dead. All these things are a reminder of the presence of Christ.
My heart is full of gratitude in fulfilling my hope to build and strengthen our community spiritually and in keeping the centrality of the Eucharist in our lives. This would not have been accomplished without the help and care of our ministry leaders and its members, the sustained energy of the faith formation ministries and prayer groups, the dedication of our parish staff and clergy, the openness to think strategically and plan for the future, to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to us, to stand up for the truths of our faith, to evangelize our community, and your dedicated service.
Your faithfulness has been a gift to me from our Lord, Jesus Christ. I encourage all of you, this beautiful parish community, to continue to open your hearts in love, to persevere in your love of Christ, to serve the needs of those who are in need, and to let the peace of Christ dwell in your hearts as you give a warm welcome to your new pastor, Father Sylvester Kwiatkowski, who is coming from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Folsom, CA.
Effective July 1, 2019, I look forward to serving the Lord at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1792 Marshall Rd., Vacaville, CA 95687. You are more than welcome to visit me if you are in the area.
More than anything, please know that you all have been a blessing to me in what you have accomplished during my tenure here at St. Maria Goretti. My hope and prayers for you are that the Holy Spirit will continue to stir within you the love of Christ and grow in holiness. Please continue to have me in your prayers as I continue in my journey to serve the Lord. Always, remember, “Smile, God loves you!” and “I will see you, when I see you!” May the peace of Christ be with you always! God Bless, Father Joshy Mathew, CMI Parochial Administrator [email protected]

th of July, you
might enjoy ‘Isaac Hecker and the Journey of Catholic America’, ‘Put Not Your Trust in Princes,’ ‘In God We Trust,’ and ‘Catholics in America.’ If you have not registered, go to https://formed.org/custom-register?url=smgcc. If you experience difficulties, email [email protected] for assistance.
RESPECT LIFE CORNER— GO GREEN! Natural Family Planning (NFP) is 100% natural. It is 100% safe and has no health risks. Studies indi-cate that people who use NFP tend to be healthier, happier and closer to their spouses than those who use chemical birth control. While contraceptives treat your fertility as a disease, as something to suppress or treat, NFP treats your fertility as a gift and an integral part of the language your body speaks in marriage and love.
Vacation Bible School - Thank you volunteers for
another successful week at Vacation Bible School (VBS). Giving of your time and talent is greatly appreciated by our parish community.
Station Leaders: Linda Roux, Ann Hanna, Linda Howell, Suzette Magtoto, Erlina Bogart, Helen McKenna, Vicki Pilapil, Sandra Woods, Henrietta Anozie, Carter Schmidt, Diego Nunez, and Shelly Walker. Youth Leaders: Gabriel McKenna, Lisa Thayer, Christina Mullins, Garrett Perkins, Ha‘ani DeBose, Bryce Turrentine, Kaely Turrentine, Larry Salgado, Elizabeth Dyck, Brady Miranda, Ayzhanae DeBose, and Jack Clements.
Donors: Thank you to all who contributed money. Ten scholarships were available and offered for children to attend
VBS. Your generosity has been awesome!
With teamwork, patience and God’s guidance, a fun filled week was provided for the children and little seeds of faith planted along the way. A special thanks to Diane Goodman, VBS Director, and Sister Ching for their leadership and assis-tance. Let us not forget Angela Robertson for her support too.
Next year, our tentative theme will be “ Parachuting with the Angels.” May God Bless our Parish Community.
THE PRAYER CORNER
For the sick: Almighty and Eternal God, You are the everlasting health of those who believe in You. Hear us for Your sick servant for whom we implore the aid of Your tender mercy, that being restored to bodily health, may they give thanks to You in Your Church. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Fr. Joshy Mathew, CMI
For the dead: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
Fr. Terry Fulton

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP
“For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters. But do not use this freedom as an opportunity for the
flesh; rather serve one another through love.” (Galatians 5:15)
We like to celebrate the fact that we are free to “live the good life.” But Jesus calls us to a different kind of freedom. St. Paul reminds us that Jesus sets us free so that we can serve one another, share our gifts and promote God’s work here on earth to glorify His name and not honor ourselves.
